  1. Is the traffic between JFK-AMS worth the service? Do they have fifth freedom rights to carry people out of AMS?
  2. The route map for MSA in 1972 were lopsided. All international flights originates in Singapore, with only a few having stopovers in KL and Penang. Why didn't both Singapore & Malaysia had an agreement whereby international flights heading east would be either be flown out of KL or Singapore and similarly for westbound flights, with a point being demarcated to show the limit for eastbound or westbound flights? Thanks for the website. A lot of interesting routes on there. Like I didn't knew MH's KUL-LAX flights once had a stopover at Tokyo. What happened that led them to route all flights to LAX to TPE?
  3. Doh! When I saw payload I immediately assume it's a freighter. But the analyst may have a point there. The 77W is a mature aircraft. Shouldn't MAS focus on next-gen planes? Is the fact that the waiting list for the 787 and A350 are quite long a factor in deciding?
  4. Well according to Wikipedia, the 77W pax version can fly 7,900++nm with full load, while the cargo version can carry full load up to 4,800++nm. But how the heck did they come to the conclusion that the A380's much more economical than the 777F when they don't have an A380F even in production?
  5. I think someone should write to MAHB or the papers to get them to clarify about the reasons why they're sternly discouraging spotting activities besides the vague "security reasons". Do spotters really pose a threat to the safety of the aircraft? In fact I think spotters could be the second eyes and ears of the airport who can detect if anything's amiss! Wouldn't that be good?
  6. They should have worded it differently. My first glance through I thought they were parking those planes in the desert or something!
  7. Is there a parade last year? Because I don't think there will be a parade, being a fasting month and all.
  8. Could it be an engine failure? On the crash photo you can see only the left engine spewing fire at impact. It looks just like the MiG-29 crash at Le Bourget during the 1989 Paris Air Show, and that plane lost an engine.
  9. Actually, I don't think there's a set number of years before planes are recycled. There's a lot of 40+ year old DC-8 and DC-9 flying around the world in relative safety. If you maintain the plane well, it'll fly virtually forever, but of course it's not cost effective. That's why planes become beer cans.
  10. Well, that's life. You have to make the best of what you've got.
  11. Don't they use PW for the old A330 too? Probably cost effective maintenance plays a big role in their decision making.
  12. The difference is those two have the money to spare and the reputation to attract the flyers. MH have little money to spare and it's reputation, although not that bad pales in comparison with those two and of course our Southern neighbour
  13. Besides the proximity to Tokyo city, what other advantages are there for anyone to fly into Haneda instead of Narita?
  14. First BA, now the airport workers. It's not a good time to fly in Britain. Can other airports pick up the slack?
  15. Everybody's afraid of the big bad bully known as the United States...
  16. That's very, very romantic! A storybook encounter.
  17. Paris Hilton at the World Cup? Is she there because she really liked football or is she there to soak up the glamour? It's just like the Monaco GP in F1, filled with celebrities who probably don't give a damn about F1 but got the chance to go on the grid which any F1 fan would kill to get!
  18. I wonder why they allocate serial numbers on unbuilt airframes?
  19. Antonov? They had problems when they chose Airbus, and that's with Northrop taking point!
  20. Is this serious? Not an April Fools joke? I mean, I've seen this done for April Fools many time!
  21. Out of those 250 deliveries, not one of them is an A380 for MH....
  22. If I'm not mistaken I've read that to break even on the route their load factor would have to be 110%!
