  1. Something to ponder upon.. hmm. Pilots are humans after all. Just curious.. if a cadet pilot under training is found to be claustrophobic, do they get transferred.. or do they have courses et al to help ease / cure it before they can get into the cockpit?
  2. I would love to join the discussion, perhaps as a minute taker But alas, my work shift ends at midnight the earliest, so I have to take a rain check. On a more serious note, as both sides are in favor for the same goal, i.e. in the best interest of MH and its customers, maybe we should drive this into a focus group after the inaugural of the ice-breaking teh tarik session? (If.. it ever going to happen lah). For starters, we don't have to bring in the big shots first, we regroup and have few more teh tarik sessions, have our says (all our hearts contents), then we decide on the biggest shared concerns to be highlighted, prepare our own case, write the key areas, and later .. file it and present it to the right people (i.e. people who have the actual power to make changes). All, everything, in consensus. Each of us are entitled to our own personal opinions, and I'm sure some of us would want things to fare better according to our own level of acceptance, but we need to have some kind of benchmark before we can scale the real issue as a whole. We are not waging personal wars here where only a few people's opinions matters, we should gather as one bunch of concerned and passionate aviation fans if we would want to help the industry gets better. Applied this at work when we had some dissatisfied staff issues a couple of years back, and from the monthly staff survey since it seems that we were on the right track. So it might have a chance to contribute in finding a solution. Maybe its too idealistic, so if its too ludicrous, please blame it on my lack of judgment. Haha... in accordance to Compliance issue I shouldn't even be discussing about office matters on open forums, I really hope that those who can make it to the yum-char session at Kayu Aman Suria, to be able to make it on Friday night Wish you all the best, ya, and play nice!
  3. That sounds like a good synergy. I wish we have it here as well.. A question to my fellow MW spotters, do we (Malaysians) have an official spotter organization locally? Perhaps we can have our MW spotters as reps... that would be really nice since we already have abundance of enthusiasms towards the love of our local aviation here
  4. Magnificent photos guys! And I should have 'lepak' at Obs Deck (Anjung Tinjau) for the 'intermission' poses over the weekend! Hahaha... those really made me laugh!
  5. Pardon me if I'm wrong... not sure, is this the statement you're referring to, Izanee? Taken from http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/getdoc/c00...b386/Media.aspx 21 Jan, 2008 MASWINGS OFFERS INCREASED FREQUENCIES AND IMPROVED CONNECTIVITY Revised schedules and more capacity effective 21 January 2008 Malaysia Airlines wholly owned subsidiary, MASwings, will offer increased frequencies and improved connectivity when the 7th Fokker F50 aircraft joins its fleet on 21st January 2008. Together with the latest Fokker F50 and 5 Twin otter in its fleet, MASwings will offer a total of 85 additional weekly flights within East Malaysia, living up to its tagline “Connecting the world to Sabah and Sarawak”. Updating the media today on the progress of MASwings, its Managing Director Dr Amin Khan said, “Our growth has been phenomenal since we took to the skies on 1 October 2007. We started with a fleet of 4 Fokker 50 and 4 Twin Otter, providing not only a revitalized air network within East Malaysia but also connectivity with our parent company, Malaysia Airlines. Our on-time performance since we started has improved from 83.9% in October last year to a record high of 93.7% this month, exceeding our benchmark of 86%.” “Effective 21st January 2008, we will have 7 Fokker F50 and 5 Twin Otter aircraft and this increased fleet strength allows us to mount an additional 42 weekly frequencies within Sarawak, 11 services a week within Sabah and another 32 weekly flights between the two states.” “Whilst planning our revised weekly schedule to incorporate these 85 additional flights, we also reviewed our overall flight timings to ensure that we not only provide inter and intra state connectivity in Sarawak and Sabah, but also have improved connectivity with both the domestic and international services of Malaysia Airlines operating from both the states,” he added. Among the significant improvements in MASwings network are increased weekly Fokker 50 frequencies on the Kuching-Sibu vv route from 7 to 14 flights and similar increase on the Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan vv and Sandakan - Tawau vv. The Kota Kinabalu-Sibu vv routes are also increased from 7 to 14 times a week. The current weekly frequency of 10 flights on the Kota Kinbalu-Miri vv route will be increased to 21. “Although we were focused on meeting the air travel needs of Sabah and Sarawak, we also were mindful of the need to provide more distribution channels and affordable fares for our customers. Within 2 ½ months of commencing operations, we launched our online booking engine on 15 December 2007 and within a month, we now register a penetration of 10% of the total bookings on us through this online channel,” said Dr Amin. The MASwings online booking engine www.maswings.com.my offers fares that are 15-35% lower than those offered through the traditional distribution channels and does not attract service fees. Apart from these competitive offers for travel on MASwings, this booking engine also allows reservations on Malaysia Airlines flights, which enables passengers to book their air travel on MASwings and Malaysia Airlines through a single online distribution channel. Dr Amin also said, “Whilst placing emphasis on operational excellence and exemplary service delivery to our customers, we did not forget the needy and our commitment to promote the two East Malaysian states through special packages in co-operation with the state tourism authorities”. “On the 1st day of our operations, we launched Wings for Children, a special programme dedicated to needy children below 12 years of age with life threatening and/or chronic illnesses, by providing them free air transportation between the interiors of Sabah and Sarawak and the urban centres in the two states to receive prompt medical attention”. “Wings of Borneo is our marketing strategy to promote the rich world renowned heritages of Sabah and Sarawak to the world. This is our contribution in partnership with the tourism offices of both states to attract more international arrivals into East Malaysia,” he added. As a dynamic air carrier, dedicated to providing excellent air services in East Malaysia, MASwings, through its parent company Malaysia Airlines has signed an MoU for 10 ATR72-500. This fleet renewal is undertaken in response to the Malaysian Government's request to enable MASWings to expand its services in Sabah and Sarawak. MASWings is expected to receive delivery of the first 5 aircraft in 2009 and another 5 by 2010. These new aircraft will enable MASWings to expand its capacity by 150%, meet the future demand in air travel within Sabah and Sarawak, and connect more customers worldwide to the two states which are ideal destinations for business and vacations Issued by: MASwings, Sarawak
  6. I thought I have had enough but nooo-ooo-ooo.... actually.. ..I WANT MORE MORE MORE PHOTOS! p/s: btw... thank yoooo to you guys who put up photos of queen dugong. pp/s: This is cute! The Darkside and Brightside, side by side... hahaha
  7. Great charter plane experience shared, Capt Nik As what my VP calls me, the Ops teams' photographer, I took hundreds of photos of my colleagues in action during any special events. I really do appreciate the candid people shots and translating hundreds of them into a memorable story-like picture album, and I'm extremely grateful to be able to share yours. Thank you for sharing!!
  8. Wow... surreal. He is very, very lucky man indeed.
  9. Ahh.... I forgot about the daily tabloids there, hehe...
  10. Oh my... hope everyone onboard the flight were okay. Another of my close colleague is flying off this Saturday, KUL-BAH-LHR, hopefully there will be no more mishaps there in Heathrow Airport, whether its weather or some other. Maybe it's just me but although the news did mentioned that the most probable cause is 'not in any way terrorist-related', but it ironically kept highlighting the Prime Minister, and I was almost talking to myself, "Who cares about the PM, tell me more details of the aircraft and the people onboard!". Its like a subtle national threat news. Not everything is about terrorist these days. Well... again, this is just me and my honest opinion. For example, instead of mentioning the incident was 1km away from the PM's plane, it says 1,000 meters. More shock-factor with smaller scale measurement, I guess.
  11. Yeah... I was surprised at first too. Actually the Uni have quite a wide offering on aerospace industry studies and aviation technology training program / degree offered there (check out the list of prospective employers who came to their Career Fair last year). Maybe since they've closed their airport to public, they used the old aircrafts for test subjects? Not, sure... must ask lil' brother about it when he's back from Kerteh. But what I know is that Neil Armstrong, and few other US astronauts, studied in Purdue U. Ah... is that so? Hmm.. oops.. my info was obsolete. I remembered Indianapolis because that's where we arrived from Newark and few days later took our flight to LA.
  12. Wooooow! I would love to just sit there all day long and just look at the planes, AND gorgeous background, at the same time. You captured it very generously, Pieter. And Monarch looks royalty to me
  13. Hiya... Was remembering my trip to the States to attend lil' brother's graduation ceremony when I remembered these photos. Taken back in '05. Lil' brother was showing us his 'playground' i.e. his college, and I never thought of seeing their own airport, Only managed a sneak preview.. Ahaha... sorry I had to crop this photo.. I was posing at one corner (go spot my arm hehe..) Airport Information (taken from url: http://www.purdue.edu/airport/info.htm ) The airport encompasses 500 acres divided into airside and landside facilities. The airside includes two runways, a system of parallel taxiways and an apron area. The landside consists of two passenger terminal buildings, "T" hangars, automobile parking and the connecting road network. Also located at the airport are academic buildings serving the Aviation Technology (AvTech) program. Buildings • One passenger terminal building • Five hangars and two small buildings used for academic activities • Two hangars used for commercial activities • Six "T" hangars used for private and corporate aircraft storage (48 units) Acitivty • 130,000 aircraft operations annually. • Second-busiest airport in Indiana Runways • 10/28 - 6600x150 • 5/23 - 4230x100 Lighting • 10/28 - High intensity with approach aids, REIL 28, VASI 28, PAPI 10 • 5/23 - Medium intensity with approach aids, REIL 5/23, VASI 23, PAPI 5 • 10/28 - Medium approach lighting system (MALSR) Instrument Approaches • ILS • VOR • NDB • RNAV • GPS Ahh... but they no longer offer any airline services there in LAF. It used to be the second most busiest airport in Indiana. Now the closest airport with airline service is in Indianapolis, 65 miles south of Lafayette. Urm... since I'm still blur at this... anyone care to point me how to spot what type of aircraft they are by just looking at it?

  15. Lovely lovely photos! Now made me think of making a quick detour to KLIA first for the 2:20pm flight before signing in to work tomorrow... Dugong or big white whale.. she looks more like a dolphin to me, especially in the 'makcik' shots. Thank you to all who posted the pics!
  16. Hi michyiki. From one credible source the next advert for AirAsia TAME intake opening should be after SPM '07 result is out... that means you should be prepared around March '08. Re MAS TAME intake, I noticed they have taken the info down from the website.. so the best way you can get further confirmation is calling MAS HR directly. I noticed that you've started another thread on AME recently.. perhaps both of us will get more if we can revive this thread instead of new ones.. Aircraft engineering~ The original thread starter is currently AK's TAME. Perhaps she and her fellow mates can help with your queries? Cheers
  17. Haha.. I was at KLIA on Saturday morning too... and ironically I did took the same photos too Anyway, from what I noticed the KLIA scale model, the proposed new LCCT will be just next door to the Main Building, right? Somewhere next to the Pan Pacific Hotel.. me thinks. Does this mean that they're expanding LCCT business as well? And do they intend for the proposed Runaway 3, 4 and 5 to be catered for LCCT too?
  18. Just caught this photo at KLIA this morning: p/s: Click on the image for the actual size... so that you can see the airlines' names..
  19. Haha... interesting topic Few of you mentioned R Kelly's I Believe I Can Fly, but that song actually reminded me most of the OPPOSITE! It was a hit song shortly before the time of the economic downturn, which made our government revised the plan to send off its sponsored students to study overseas because its too expensive. I remember students just few months shy to fly off (like me) to UK or the States singing that song forlornly around campus. Hehe... touchy subject, lol.. I've found one song by Jason Mraz called "Plane", here's the YouTube link of his live performance for those interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHFlUVe5SMo For me, my favorite aviation-themed song is this end theme song of a J-dorama called Good Luck!! which always made me think of airplanes everytime I listened to it. Always, always. It's called Ride On Time, sung by Tatsuro Yamashita, a famous 80s song. (Yes.. its in Japanese). Ahh... and they complimented this end theme song with scenes in ANA hangars, in the cockpits and I was totally envious of the lead star who gets to lie down on the plane's wing! Oh... here's the link to that opening plus ending theme song of that J-dorama, for some of you who are curious: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZY0PKGDBgo
