  1. Actually the Thai Airways new Y class actually is now in many airlines, like Finnair, China Southern Airlines, Qatar Airways and numerous other airlines. Think all are form EADS Sogerma. Turkish Airlines, SQ and LAN are (were) using Koito seats. Nothing special of these seats as they are copied from one to another, perhaps only different is the padding and colours. Plus there are only few manufacturers worldwide. But I have to agree TG's looks nice! The J class a bit bit not that nice..at least from pix.
  2. Its the first A330 to be scrapped due to "natural" reasons, age. Coupled by the maintenance issue, no airline is willing to take her up. If she is a few years younger, and there is an airline which is willing to sink in $$ to repair her, she most probably will not meet her ending this early. 9M-MKB also met a premature death. Any idea where she is now? Coca Cola can?
  3. The use of polygamy as a comparison shows how shallow some of the CEOs of GLCs are. Excuse you, this is serious business, how can someone be comparing their business with others like wives? Even if it is meant as a joke, there are better examples or words to be use. Back to the topic, to be honest, MH can be Asia's #1 if they really strive hard, plan and execute their plan properly and effectively. Like what KK lee has stated, MH had a few makeover over the past decade. The overall result are mixed. IJ's era returned MH to profit but at a cost as well (the mealbox...). They should not behave like a cry-baby, crying over spilt milk. While most airlines renew their fleet periodically without wearing out their current planes, MH seems to be doing the opposite. Not to forget, most players now have PTV with AVOD in most of their aircrafts (except short haul maybe), MH has none on their regional A332 and A333. Their new B738 is hit-and-miss opportunity. This portrays a bad image on MH. Spinning World's Best Crew continuously is also tacky. Remember seasoned consumers care about hard products as much as soft products. Plus MH has lost the title to Asiana Airlines long ago....MH come on...wake up! While barring all these issues, hopefully when the new A333 comes on board, MH will roll out standardised products for all class and all aircraft. If there is any difference, there should only be minor ones. And WITH NEXT GENERATION AVOD.....not the hand-me-down technology.
  4. Yes, Bill Clinton arrived the day before the event. The last to arrive. On the night he arrived, China B747, Russia batallion of airplanes two IL-96, two IL-62M, two An 124, few Tupolevs , Australia B707, and some other Head of States arrived in a space of few minutes if not hours only. Both AF1 had to park in BKI since there is no more space in Brunei International Airport. It was the most amazing moment for aviation enthusiasts in Brunei...
  5. I agreed 9M-MKB is the first A330 to be scrapped, but it was due to negligence of some individuals. More accurately, it was written off. EI-ORD is due to be scrapped on "purpose". I hope you get what I mean.....*no offense meant*.
  6. ooppsss....my bad. Sorry for the mistake. Much apologies....
  7. As per Skyliner-aviation.de website: Airbus A330-301 cn 059 EI-ORD Aer Lingus to be ferried 29mar11 BOD-BGR-GWO for part-out and scrap ex F-GMDD Withdrawn from service last month, this will be the first non-crash A330 to be scrapped. In another forum, it was reported that this particular A330 has serious maintenance issue that cannot justify D Check, therefore will be scrapped. So far, six A330 were destroyed by various factors: bombing, mercury leak, pilot error..and unknown reason (AF's A333). FYI, D7 has an ex-EI A330 line number cn 054. So long...cn 059...take a bow.its time for you to sleep....
  8. AirAsia booking system is well known for loading several 'interesting' destinations. Most of them are either charter or one-off flight....Maldives, Muan in Korea are two best examples. Although Maldives is potentially be their next new destinations.....
  9. PAL original routing is as stated. MNL-BWN-KK-MNL. vv. In the mid 90s, BWN became a direct flight from MNL, dropping KK. Nearing the Asian Financial crisis, it was suspended.
  10. No, KA never fly to BWN. All done thru code share only. This explains why HK flight is sometimes upgauged to B777 or previously B767.
  11. You are welcome Mushrif. CX's original routing was HK-KK-BWN in the late 80 till early 90's. Later it becomes HK-BWN-KK. till late 97. Then it was suspended to make way for Adelaide if I am not mistaken. Now, BI code share with KA for HK flights. Therefore you can still see BWN listed in CX's website.
  12. I think at that point of time not many people, especially our generation, are interested in aviation. BCTam, wow!! thats almost most of their fleet in the 70's and 80's. Must be a memorable journey!! I remember looking at BA HighLife mag Route Map while I was a Primary School kid (my ex-school library used to keep BA mag), BWN was a tag-on flight from either KUL or BKK. then from BWN to SYD.
  13. I saw Bangkok Air's A319 taking off before my flight last Tuesday in Changi. Beautiful livery and nice to see the tiny Airbus A319 blasting off at full speed!
  14. Although its a beauty in sight for us aviation spotters, those grandnanny B742 needs to be retired asap. UN's has been around since CX took delivery in 1980's.... Saw UN's B744 in SIN....what a beauty.....
  15. If they didn't do major overhaul then this could be it: http://discussions.flightaware.com/viewtopic.php?t=10561&sid=78ddadcebd154d371aa58d2f6c74bbc4 http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/aircraft-pictures/2010/02/interior-pics-of-747-vip.html WARNING: It looks tacky....
  16. Thanks Firdaus for the info. B742 for private jets nowadays?? Err....kinda weird when you have so many B744s sitting around now.
  17. So what rumours are lingering around? haven't heard of any....
  18. WOW!!! If this is true, KLIA is really attracting exotic airlines. Tu-154m anyone? or IL-62M? but I do know they most probably will fly Tu-204....thanks jjjfirdaus for the info!
  19. eeh....its not me travelling. I got it off from the Business Traveller mag's website. Oh my, Robert. Sorry to hear your ordeal. ATA bankrupted anyways......Rest In Pieces...
  20. We have cases nearer to home. Our ex Work Minister has proven it...look at MRR2 and Parliament roof....okay, am going into hiding...
  21. http://asia.businesstraveller.com/discussion/topic/Iberia-is-a-disaster-you-have-been-warned It is my first post on this forum, however it is also my duty to inform all regular travellers of my recent Iberia disaster: 1. my booking through Iberia.com: i booked 2x 1 way tickets in business from MVD to CPH in December. i received an initial email stating that this was a booking but not yet a confirmation but that a second email would follow. A second email did follow and i assumed that was that. the day i was due to fly, i tried to check in online, but my record locator gave me an error. After a call i was informed that the ticket had not been issued. No effort was made by the airline to contact me, no email telling me of a problem, credit card company tells me there was not even an attempt to charge the card. Amazing...but there is better. 2. I reroute through SAO. No, there were no seats on the MVD flight and no, i could not speak to a manager. We arrived in MAD, the connection was tight. We got on the flight but there was no food, our meals had been removed. The pilots and crew were fed but not us. Stewardess took our baggage tags to check with the pilot that they were on board, we were told that they were definitely in the hold BUT 3. no bags at CPH. I understand that bags do miss connections. However, Iberia baggage team seriously disappointed us-here we are in Denmark, my wife in a summer dress and flip-flops,i am in tshirt and jeans and we have a dinner party that night with a black tie wedding the following. No, they were not able to get our bags on the first flight the next day, no, they would not help, give us an allowance to buy any clothes/make up/cosmetics/medication beyond the e50 per day minimum (BA incidentally paid over £1500 when they lost my ex girlfriends bag on the way to a wedding in Toronto a few years ago) and NO, we could not speak to anyone in authority under any circumstances whatsoever. My wife was walking around Copenhagen in puddles of slush in her flipflops, i wore a $150 tux to a society wedding, my wife top shop and borrowed cloths Iberia win the worst airline customer service award of the decade and I will try and avoid them for the rest of my travelling life. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. -END- It bags me a question: Is Iberia really that bad? I haven't flown with them, but over airliners.net TR and numerous website, Iberia seems to be the last airline on Earth one would take if it is end of the world..... Any MWings member has any experience with them?
  22. Actually its more confusing....haiz...apa ler??? So now Y pax can check in two luggages? Each should not be more than 23kgs. Took me a number of read to fully understand what it means....
  23. Oh my!! AirAsia is painting the whole SEA's skies red. Kudos to AK if the focus now shift to Changi. But it will be 'in-you-face' to MAHB and Malaysia Government. Will we see D7 competing with SQ, Jetstar, QF for Kangaroo route? This seems possible.
  24. All seasons: http://www.youtube.com/user/AirCrashMayday Enjoy!! prepare some popcorn!! and some tissue as well.
