  1. 1) stop looking at just ctrm and acm bro. think bigger my friend. the world dont revolve around current malaysian limitations. what else can be done? direct incentives, more tax free zones for near logistics hubs, training incentives, etc etc list goes on. the best thing we can do is to bring a major OEM in here doing tier 1 manufacturing, then we can develop MORE malaysian tier 2/3 companies that contribute to the supply chain. not just acm and ctrm. look forward bro! 2) yes. almost fully capable. no comment on monopolistic and protectionism. im working on moving forward in terms of policy. if everyone working on this keeps looking at past baggage, nothing will improve, as everything also tak boleh. 3) wrong. structure drives behaviour, and this applies everywhere. fix the structure, the behaviour follows suit. not saying there wont be barriers at all, im realistic. but we must work towards eliminating unpredictability and middle men lobbying. its baby steps, but all in the right direction. 4) this is why engineers never generalize. for ATEC related avionics diagnosis, its only 2%-5% human labor cost....but for airframe repair, labor cost can be as high up as 50% on certain schemes. for instance, equipments for detecting cracks and delamination within composite plies are still limited in terms of size and area covered. need massive amounts of man hours for something the size of the 787. 50% on a RM 1b a year business, now thats a lot of money. APs/quotas? aiyoh. you got some grudge la buddy against the gov. start another thread bashing automotive policies la. not very relevant to aviation policy. I also want to buy a lexus for RM60k... Not quite true. Many have come even without offset. many came, some have left, some still waiting. I won't name companies as im bound by NDA. Think bigger bro. Aviation tech offsets may not necessarily come from aircraft purchases. hint hint. Think ANYTHING we may have procured from overseas.... And you think large order offsets are the only way of getting tech and work packages in? Not quite bro its all about value proposition, and our country has got a LOT. have more faith bro, it aint so bad, we just have to make it better... Spot on! We actually have quantity today. about 100+ specialized aerospace engineers graduate from local unis every year. Quality is an issue tho, as unis here have enough expertise to teach theory, but industry is not giving exposure to these boys...both need to up their game. also, pay sucks in the aviation industry unless youre a pilot/LAE. so some good ones run to O&G, automotive, etc... Quality is inconsistent. I've interviewed some gems, but also remember this one guy who didnt know what an empennage is. Aeronautical Engineering grad somemore...
  2. That statement is quite misleading...but acknowledged. We have the capability, but we're severely limited by job scope. We are only awarded tier 3 packages and we do not invest to go up tier. We also, do not bring in any tier 1 or 2 packages in. And what about composites repair? 787/350 will have 60+% composites content, and we dont even have a proper repair setup here for the MROs. Think of a car. If you only manufacture brake lights, and be the "Regional Leader of Manufacturing Brake Lights from Advanced LED Tech", you're still the buggers only making brake lights. That's EXACTLY the case for composites manufacturing in this country. We are good, no doubt about it. But need to expand and do more! Last i checked, we manufacture about 30 panels the size of a primary school table top for the A320/A380, and some parts here and there for the A400M. Basically same packages here n there also for the 787/350 now being development. Still brake lights. No engine, no control systems, hyd, pneumatics, interior, avionics, etc. As a country with our LOW labor cost base, its an extremely low hanging fruit.
  3. ACM and CTRM are mere tier 3 manufacturers/assemblers la macha. Must have vision la a bit bro. We must not be happy enough with jaguh kampung and bring in the tech and money! we want tier 2, tier 1, and to do that we need a clear policy that allows for incentives/grants/taxbreaks etc that can attact OEMs and tiers 2 above. Re car industry. I think its slightly irrelevant, as malaysian aero industry vs the world is 100x BACKWARDS compared to automotive industry here. Imagine la, we only do screws and panels for an aircraft. None of the major OEMs are here except some MRO players. Automotive, we're almost fully capable now. We're far from the best, but then protectionism and monopolistic behaviour belongs in a separate topic altogether. Im not saying its right, but for aviation, lets grow it first! now! From your public eye, you may not have the visibility on many OEMs and major companies that have approached msia in the last 2 years, but end up disappointed by lack of a clear policy. Everything must follow 'who you kenal' and then there's some buggers who will place themselves as the middle man for $$$. In contrast, singapore (our main enemy for aviation industry growth) is absolutely quick and decisive on this. and i tell you, in negotiations, damn malu wey to the big boys. We need it and we need it now! think positive!
  4. Id rather not be so negative. NAP is supposed to cover the entire aviation sector value chain. manufacturing tiers 1-3, MRO, FDI through OEM involvement, asset and spares management, etc and it is supposed to make it easier to introduce such tech and business in this country. for airlines, think incentives for direct operations into domestic points from overseas. think green initiatives that can be translated to tax breaks, think incentives for foreign AOC applicants, think easier access to grants, think tax holidays, think tax free zones, think investment criterion that would encourage (in fact enforce) foreign companies to invest and develop local tech and talent, rather than just treating us like a 3rd world country manufacturing plant with cheap labor. think incentives for moving logistics via KUL/PEN hub. think talent development, jobs for our boys and girls, Lots of benefits to a properly build NAP.
  5. Theres also this honeywell smartrunway and smartlanding systems that plugs in and complements the gpws. Supposed to help with situational awareness of the pilots to avoid incursions etc. But nothing beats good training. all the instrumentation in the world doesnt matter when you still have pilots who doesnt keep the sterile cockpit thing going.
  6. David, I hope your views do not represent the facts and views of the MASWings management. Those are some serious allegations and assumptions made up there. Can someone from MASWings management verify or rebut the above?
  7. A great many 'awards' can be bought. I'd say close to 80% of them, thanks to irresponsible 'survey' companies which thrive more on award marketing revenue, rather than quality of the award itself. Looking back to the past few years, id say Skytrax is not or marginally less guilty of this, IMHO. At least, they dish out bad ratings as well as good ones. The trick is to see which companies that regularly dish out ambiguous awards, based on little justification (or internet based research) and no reasoning to why 'A' wins and not 'B' or 'C' etc. Article below provides more info. Sokong. Shawshank Nigam also agrees with you, with this interesting article. http://simpliflying.com/2011/why-skytrax-is-dead-plus-7-insights-into-the-future-of-airline-brand-ratings/
  8. yeah. had a number of searches bounce back to 'book' page and then of course its really slow. Got my tix now tho, after the uptenth time of trying.
  9. To quote mr thaia345 exactly : just to put it clearly for the benefit of readers here.
  10. Surprised nobody highlighted this. http://www.flightglobal.com/blogs/asian-skies/2011/06/grounded_sias_new_website_kill.html
  11. do you have D7 financial figures? i've also only heard "we're doing very good" also from D7 ranks without seeing any financial figures. maybe you can share some of the figures you got here... btw, dnata doesn't manage airports. they do ground handling, support services and a bit of TMC-ing, nothing near the big guns like AMEX and carlson.
  12. sounds eerily similar to the ill fated avcen jetpod (jetpod...jetfox...get it?)
  13. For all the good that he's done in Melaka, Ali Rustam might want to consider this a miss. He seems to be trying hard to make use of Melaka airport, justifying the millions spent on the upgrades. Started with heavy lobbying to bring carriers to melaka, has now culminated in a formation of a JV airline.
  14. Sure chief. and im sure nobody here doubts your oftenly proclaimed experience and knowledge on MH matters very good. But, my comments so far are based on my own experience in dealing with any FFPs or hotel loyalty programs. So cheers. again, good luck in solving your problem.
  15. can't expect everyone to study your entire history before lending some advice right.... if you expect that from everyone here...well... good for you. just trying to offer some feedback on how i have (and will continue to) settle this sort of problem.
  16. wonder why EADS facility in dresden. high cost compared to a number of china based MROs that can handle cargo conversions at much lower cost. must've involved quite a contra package in terms of future components support...
  17. ahhhh im sorry to hear that azizul. i don't really read other threads i see as boring so i was not aware of your previous experiences. I don't see that as a prerequisite to commenting on this enrich issue. But i won't comment on those as i dont know the details. My view stands. good luck!
  18. very good azizul. you can report back to this thread and instead of underwear, you can throw a shoe maybe (i heard its a major form of insult in the middle east to do so). theyve got a local office in saudi or dubai or wherever u are i think, so maybe u dont need the international call. but eitherway, if you fail online, do talk to them and try not to use offensive language okay. usually being nice helps, with us being asians and what not. If you only do online and refuse to talk to anyone, then maybe my solution will not work for you. talk to them and who knows? they may allow the 15% discount on redemptions anyway since your problem is due to technicality..
  19. cant speak on behalf of enrich dude. maybe youll get queried, but like i said, nothing a bit of reasoning and explanation with the officer cant solve. at least that's my personal experience anyway. maybe you can try and let us know. but if they know whats good for them, in the name of customer service, they'll let you redeem. my starwood registration was especially messed up (my initials A BC D sequence became D AB C) thanks to the spaniard who filled the form, but even with that, no issues so far. I know im skirting the issue that enrich should get the name right in the first place, and i agree dude, they should. but as a consumer, i couldnt care less as long as my points are intact and are accumulating
  20. righto. i think they did quite a good job on the renovation. personally dont think customers care about the font (not to nitpick, but logo is actually the same), but premium customers generally wants the feeling of separation and exclusivity, which this space now provides.
  21. I have no such time right now unfortunately, but let me see if i can clear 2 hours of my schedule for this detailed study. and there's no labelling dude. just thought you should chill a bit . in fact, i think calling names like bodoh biol and hancur is more 'labelling' than anything. But I digress, you obviously have gone through quite a period of emotional stress, from post 1 and all. So i'll try to understand, and move away from your emotional well being. Still i don't see why you're getting your underwear all tangled up (thats a figure of speech by the way). Im a member of many clubs like accor, starwood prefferred, flying blue, star, etc and they mess up my name all the time (my full name is rather long). no biggie. still same account, same points, never had issues redeeming. at least in my opinion, ive never found it a reason to flip out. be smart, like some replies above, improvise, and fill up the form with assumed (like ZIP = postcode, PO BOX probably irrelevant so enter postcode again)...etc. Maybe im lucky then. I've never had this problem, despite slight name differences (positioning, spelling typo), with any of the FFPs i have. Sometimes it gets highlighted, but nothing a few words with the ticketing/check in officer cant solve. I think the point of having an FFP is to get people to earn and spend, hence the tight controls do not make sense. but like i said, ive never seen it happen, maybe im just plain lucky.
  22. hahaha if thats another flaw in the system, im updating every line in my name and address later. but sadly, i think the promo is only for new registrants right? the 2000 miles thingy...
  23. ahaaaa now that's a rational solution. maybe someone should email them to change the 'PO box' to Postcode.
  24. I wonder why you're getting high blood pressure over this azizul. i thought you've never flown mas since Tajudin's time and don't plan to ever switch back to mas or something, due to some deep rooted frustration and agitation with old mas management and its flaws... normal complain is normal lah....but you're flipping out more than usual on this. just out of curiosity, if you just enter postcode (our postmans are usually quite used to seeing postcodes in many diferent location on the address due to country of origin may have diff postcode designation) ....does it fix the problem?
  25. No worries big mike. You should also notice that in recent years, Indonesia MRO industry standards have improved by leaps and bounds which have not only culminated in the EU ban being lifted off its major airlines, but also the entry of some major MRO players and OEMs to the country (see SR Technics + GMF Aero MoU as the most recent). Only fair for us not to write them off just yet with this crash. After all, it could be ANYTHING. Weather may play a part, but you shouldn't compare to Malaysia and Singapore too as we generally have much better ATC and navigational equipment compared to some dinghy airport in the Irian.
