Can Helicopters landing at a public area in Kuala Lumpur?
Rozhan replied to Naim's topic in General Aviation
I think it is a nuisance to have helicopters routinely land at residential areas for work or leisure purposes . There may be sleeping babies, the aged and the infirmed needing rest, and pets who may be spooked! Unless it is an emergency of course. -
Probably... but nobody can bring a manpad without security folks noticing. By the way there used to be several orange coloured pay-per-view binoculars at the observation deck. If I recall correctly, 50 sen gets one to use it for 1 minute or so. They are barely noticeable in the photo above. Those were the days when one could hear the roar of B707s and DC-8s. If only I can relive that experience...

Love the old Subang airport. Wonder why Malaysian airports nowadays can't be designed with outdoor observation facilities? Or at least a glassless anjung tinjau. The last to have it was KCH... until renovations changed everything.

Beautiful pictures with all the mountains in the background. Thanks for sharing.

SQ's A380 safety cards went above USD 100 during the early weeks after the inaugural flight. Vintage B707 cards can cost significantly more!

Familiar indeed. Perhaps someone should write a book on that airline...

Loved watching those bucket style thrust reverses on the 732 :-) Also miss the "Pratt & Whitney Dependable Engines" sticker on the engines back in the old days when MH used to operate them. Somewhat reassuring to see them...

Old Time-table of Imperial Airways, England-Australia, from the 1940s

In the book "Airborne: the evolution & birth of Malaysia Airlines", the flying boat used the Marine station at Glugor in Penang. In Singapore it operated off the coast of Kallang, which was used by the Singapore Flying Club. -
30th Anniversary of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH653

I was not told about that, and obviously too late to ask. It would have been a secret at that time, and perhaps till today. Some people are soooo afraid of the establishment... -

My late father was one of the negotiators on behalf on the Malaysian gov. Was intially asked to escort (as a guarantee for their safety) the JRA to Libya but was substituted by someone else. I was in school at the time of the incident when suddenly there was a huge presence of police and classes were dismissed immediately. There is an aviation element in this incident. Hope people who were at Subang airport at that time can describe how things were when the JRA boarded the plane etc. What I know snipers were there... "just in case". -

Good series. Hope they will follow up in the next season the assassination of the Inspector General of Police, the bombing of Tugu Negara, the fire at Campbell Complex, amongst others. I remember very well the people were called to donate RM1 million for the repairs of Tugu Negara (2 statues fell to the ground..... visitors allowed to see the damage). The IGP was shot just as he passed by what is now Menara Maybank. Campbell Complex tower was engulfed in flames and I witnessed it as we used to stay at Jalan Dato Onn overlooking Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman etc. Lots more actually.... the hostage crisis at the US Embassy in AIA building (the schools at Jalan Bukit Nanas e.g. St John's & Convent got a 1 week holiday during the standoff ). They should interview witnesses of theses tragedies while they are still around. -
Have a safe and pleasant journey Naim

I'm glad I managed to collect every single piece of chinaware and glass on the tray, including the tray :-)

A very commendable effort Dean, and thanks for sharing with us all these historic documents. I would expect MAS archives to keep them in proper environment so as to preserve them for decades to come.

The official Airbus sticker is already on sale. Found one at ebay : http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Airbus-Sticker-malaysia-airlines-AIRBUS-A330-300-/160551505486?pt=Transportwesen&hash=item25619d8e4e -
Agree. School leavers should consider the many career opportunities out there that can pay well. My cousin is in his late 40s and already the Master (or Captain) of MISC's LNG supertanker Seri Ayu. He seems to enjoy his career, despite having to transport a very dangerous, highly inflammable cargo

A nice trip back in time. I enjoy looking at pictures of the simpler days.

Sedated passengers may need to answer the call of nature, so they'll need urine bags or diapers Amazing that airlines can even think about this standing fares.

Lovely pics Nguyen, especially Putrajaya. I often find myself lost in the maze of roads there!

Help to indentify the airport and a few vintage birds

I see a Peugeot 403 in the first pic! Pictures at Sg Besi airport could only be early or before 1965 as Subang Airport became operational that year. -
The way I see it, BN wants to show the people of Perak that it can do instant wonders for the state if it is in power, as is at this moment.

I recall a case out of Subang in the early 1990s, on board MAS. A young teenager was found dead in the wheel bay upon landing in Johannesburg. I'm not surprised with SZB. Just two layers of wire fencing, plus a layer of barbed wire. Any wire cutter could let one enter the airfield. Then there was another out of the world class KLIA on board SIA, but he survived. There were 2 cases out of Penang as well, if I'm not mistaken. Both died.
