  2. So HNL was a stop on the way back. Was that a technical stop or MH wanted to pick up extra (Japanese) pax. Was it due to load that KUL-AKL was stopped and became KUL-BNE-AKL? I took SQ on my first ever trip from Malaysia to New Zealand. SQ was using 747-212B and 747-312 back then.

  4. Went to send off the Cathay Pacific last 747-400 flight yesterday. There was a huge crowd of spotters at the T2 roof top. CX543 inbound from Tokyo Haneda was supposed to land on Runway 25R. They had a runway change just 20 mins prior to the landing, causing the ground spotters to rush towards the roof top. Weather didn't help - but what the heck - this is the last commercial 747-400 flight for CX. The actual last flight of the B747-400 pax is next Saturday 8/10/2016 with flight number CX8747. Staffers of CX and officials will be inside this special flight which will fly above HK city and bound for TPE and return, I heard. Photos from yesterday CX543 performed by B-HUJ, a RR powered B747-467 arrived in a foggy day. (the other two remaining - B-HUI, a 747-467 and B-HKT, an ex SQ B747-412 were retired a day or two ago). Taxied to her gate. Heavy down pour followed after this shot. Here are photos from June (MWings anniversary) when I spotted with fellow MWinger, Mr. Francis Lee - or Flee as known here in this forum.
  5. Ahh I see what you mean now、BC! So it seems odd numbers were in reverse direction (inbound) and even numbers for outbound from Malaysia? Seems they revised it after the 1980s. I did remember at one stage seeing MH62 to be KUL-BKI-SEL run (ICN did not even exist back then and GMP was still using SEL IATA code) served by a DC-10-30.
  6. Haha BC... I am 200% sure it was MH60/61 and KA60/61 as I have frequented that route. Funny you mentioned about 1986, it was actually the first time ever I went to HKG on MH's A300B4-203 (BKI-HKG) and then (PAL A300B4-203 for HKG-MNL and MH B737-2H6 Adv. between MNL to BKI). I remembered it to be MH60 on the outbound flight. If you do a search now at Dragonair's website... KA60/61 still exist. KA61 is inbound to BKI, KA60 is outbound from BKI to HKG.

  8. Yeah I remembered it to be departing at around 6:00am or 7:00am? My father's maternal family is based in Seremban, so we had to wake up really in the morning and drove to Subang for MH60/61. Back in the days if you catch the real early morning flight and late afternoon flight, the price is 50% less. A return flight to the Peninsular from Sabah cost us M$1200 back then (back then it wasn't known as RM) and early morning and evening flights cost us M$600. Does anyone have MH60/61 time table? If I am not incorrect, it went all the way to NRT from TPE.

MH60 KUL-KCH-BKI-HKG-TPE-NRT MH61 NRT-TPE-HKG-BKI-KCH-KUL Dragonair codeshared with MH on the BKI-HKG route, hence MH,KA60/61 flight number was used for the route, the 60/61 flight numbers survived till today at KA. Long abandoned at MH after introduction of the MH382/383, MH384/385 flight numbers.

  11. Kuala Lumpur - Auckland should be: Kuala Lumpur - Brisbane - Auckland on a DC10. The DC-10-30 may not have enough range to cover a 11 hours flight direct to AKL. How do I know? I was a frequent traveler of this route on MH's DC-10 back then

  17. According to Flightradar 24, it was supposed to be AKL-SIN, but was diverted to BKI.

  19. Nope, CZ's 787-8 flies to LHR direct from CAN. So far only AMS and LAX are CZ's A380 destinations, though they did use them to SYD for a little while. Apparently CZ uses their A380 for CAN-PEK and CAN-SHA (Hongqiao) routes.
  20. The remaining 2x A340-500s and 2x B747-400s no longer listed on Thai's website. They probably found buyers for them or they might be headed to the scrapheap. They still have 6x A340-600s for sale. HS-TNA to HS-TNF. Poor buggers, oldest only about 11 years old and youngest 8 years old.
  21. Saw Malindo in Batik tail yesterday at HKIA. When will they become Batik Air Malaysia?
  22. Now where does China Southern send their A380s to? From what I know they use that domestically between Beijing and Guangzhou. The ever congested airspace in China make sense too to have less frequency with smaller birds but more density with bigger birds. I would like to see Air China increase their 747-8i orders though!
  23. Not unique to Malaysians. Hong Kong as another example has the same mentality. They wait till some white guys tell them it is a no-no or adopt examples from a western country (preferably an English speaking country) when something is outlawed. Otherwise, they will revert to what was handed down from their colonial master, who left almost 2 decades ago. The consumer protection here in HK is weak too. For example, tickets should be sold as all inclusive price, rather than allowing airlines to advertise cheap air ticket and then passengers only being disappointed by the often extravagant amount airlines would add to as fuel surcharge etc. That has not been changed for a long long time and nobody made any noise about it either.
  24. Just to be fair, when i travelled to Australia a few months ago, Jetstar and Virgin Australia will charge AUD $8 or AUD $12 credit card processing fees too. A few years ago QF did charge processing fees too but dropped later. Well, more often than not, I only found out credit card processing fees are indeed unavoidable (unless using Jetstar debit card) and another way to escape would be direct bank transfer. I don't see how different it is compared to Air Asia's case.
