  1. Not surprising if many among us ave. Joes would think straight line from say, Hong Kong to New York passes right over the Pacific. My school friend didn't believe me when I told him shortest distance from Equator to some points in northern hemisphere passes North pole.
  2. Suddenly this issue of whether to build Kulim airport or not reminds me of Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (DFW). The cities of Dallas and Forth Worth had their own airports (though, Dallas Love Field is still operating and recently came out of the Wright Amendment restriction) and were commonly competing each other for a slice of air travel market in northern Texas. But, they finally put their differences aside, and work together to realise a single mega airport that eventually serves both cities. DFW straddles the border between both cities. So, maybe Penang and Kedah governments should put aside their differences and build an airport that straddles Kedah-Penang border, then close down AOR and PEN for civilian traffic. It is for greater good. Just my RM0.02...
  3. The 2nd part suggests that previous attempts to make BKI hub by MH was unsustainable due to cost rather than demand. Previously, it said, crews for international flights from BKI were KL based and with fewer weekly frequencies, necessitated longer hotel stays at destination which added to the cost of BKI hub. - Hmm, but, I thought the crews were BKI based based on the previous plan? Maybe with lower cost related to contract reductions, renegotiation etc... the upcoming attempt is more feasible? 2nd part also mentions: Evaluation of 737 MAX 9 and A321neoLR. Re-timing of flights for both MAS and MASWings for better connections to KUL (with EK coming into the scene) and also to points at China/North Asia. Potential to re-time flights for better connection between Australia & North Asia (though this is more of a suggestion from CAPA rather than MH itself). Apparently, MH secures more charter flights from China than 180 flights stated in local media. Potentially more domestic (logical points mentioned which are PEN, KBR, JHB) and international destinations (funnily the suggested new routes to ICN and HKG had been done before) at least after mid-2016. 120 pilots and 200 cabin crews will be based at BKI by mid-2016.
  4. Kota Kinabalu Airport Part 2: to become second hub after Kuala Lumpur for the new Malaysia Airlines 24-Dec-2015 Malaysia Airlines is planning to expand at Kota Kinabalu after opening a new base at Malaysia’s second largest airport in Apr-2016. The restructured flag carrier will be basing six 737-800s at Kota Kinabalu year-round with one or two additional aircraft during certain periods to support new charter flights to China. 5. Kota Kinabalu Airport in east Malaysia should see a resumption of traffic growth in 2016 following two years of reductions. Malaysia’s second largest airport is quietly emerging as an international hub, fuelled by growth from mainland China. Malaysia Airlines is opening a base at Kota Kinabalu in Apr-2016, which is expected to lead to nearly 30% traffic growth at the airport for the newly restructured flag carrier. AirAsia is also expanding at Kota Kinabalu in 2016, starting with a new daily service to Wuhan, its fourth Chinese route. Kota Kinabalu also has seen the launch or resumption of service from three Chinese carriers in 2H2015. China is now the airport’s largest international market and will see further growth in 2016 driven by new flights from AirAsia, Malaysia Airlines and Chinese carriers. 6. Can do something like this. It could spur more interest in aerospace among the young in the country.... Maybe somewhere else la, like SZB or some other airports outside KV.

  8. Perhaps get their support through social media. I think any cinema operators can do like GSC, TGV, MBOs... because the choice of Planetarium Negara sounds odd, as it focuses on space. And also get support from aeronautics students in local learning institutions a good base too.
  9. WIth the pullout of MH in KCH-BKI-HKG sector (MH384/385), the direct non-stop flight is now feasible.
  10. Official website: http://www.airplanesmovie.com/ *** Has anyone watched this film? I know this film since several months ago, but didn't realised until now it is only shown on theatres, not on National Geographic Channel in TV (i.e. Astro in Malaysia). In Malaysia, seems the film is yet to be shown on the big screen. But, based on this page, only Planetarium Negara is listed as a suitable venue. Very odd choice - I am sure any good cinemas in the country can play such film. Local enthusiasts have the chance to get the film shown, providing that they can convince local cinema rep. to get the film shown, by contacting the film distributor. Anyone?
  11. At least Sabah tourism ministry (if you are referring to Sabah) promotes the state in North America, focusing on US West Coast, with cities such as SF and LA that are easily connected and closer to ICN, HKG and NRT. Anyway, we are getting slightly deviate from the topic now...😊
  12. BI B787 just departed from BKI... Wow, the varieties at T1 today must be interesting.
  13. The SYD upgrade is only for two days, it is published in MH website.
  14. Heard the news that early morning today, flight MU782 DPS-PEK diverted to here due to decompression. Pax posted photos of oxygen masks dropped. It was A330.
  15. Malaysia is generally an underrated destination in Asia.
  16. Mr. Robert Williams (the person folding the head board) is also a trained BA cabin crew. Whenever he is off-duty as BA Regional Commercial Manager in Singapore, he will perform his duty as cabin crew.
  17. I don't really think that Malaysia is such a very low yielding destination. Perhaps, all these tourists or business travellers prefer to go to Malaysia via Singapore or Hong Kong.
  18. Malaysia's only direct link to Central Europe is now cutoff. Hoping with A350s coming online in next few years, MH can restart FRA (and the likes of AMS and CDG) again.
  19. For BKI-NRT/PER which are well over 5 hours (or almost 6 hours), that must be quite an endurance for pax inside a B738...
  20. Just now, went rayau-rayau (roaming) the airport, sorry though no pics. From what I saw: Terminal 2 Devoid of passengers. Some few security personnel sitting at the information kiosk. Large rubbish bins are put on the drop-off area. AirAsia logo still prominently placed at the now empty check-in counters. Terminal 1 By 10.30pm, I counted roughly 10 parked aircrafts. AirAsia seems to occupy gates A3 until A5 (totalling 6 parking spaces). Malaysia Airlines planes occupy gates A6 and beyond. MASWings planes parked at around gates A10-A11. Foreign airlines occupy gates A1-A2. Departure hall is busier than before - there were practically no space to park cars. AirAsia check-in counters were lively. There are also self check-in kiosks provided by the airline. Arrival hall is even busier - congested to the brim. Car traffic flow was almost reduced to a crawl. Seems like Arrival Hall 1 & 2 are livelier than before, even Arrival Hall 3 is alive with crowds. Positive impact to amenities - more customers patronizing at shops, eateries and banks.
  21. RB is an example where their female cabin crews wear tudung+kebaya.
