  1. Thanks for the pics!! Awesome! A question for Airbus drivers out there. By looking at the pic above, I see that the captain's rudder pedals are in a different position from the co-pilot's.(ie, the captain's pedals are closer to the seat than the co-pilot's). So is it possible to adjust the rudder pedals longitudinally in this way on the A330? What about the A320 and B737? Can the pedals be adjusted on those aircraft types as well in this way?
  2. I remember in the mid 90's, Pelangi flew from Singapore WSSS to Melaka using a Fokker 50. I hope Firefly will do the same route in the future.
  3. Check out this amazing video taken just after the crash. (video appears after the advertisement). It's interesting to note how much visibility there is at the time as well.
  4. The high minima is probably due to the high ground north of the 27 threshold where the tower is. I'm wondering whether the pilot lost visibility after reaching DH? That is, he was visual at DH and decided to continue with the approach, but then lost visibility due to a passing rain shower and thus elected to go around? A go-around at zero visibility that near to the ground is always fraught with danger. I recall the Qantas QF 1 incident at BKK had similar circumstances where the co-pilot was visual at DH but lost visibility in the landing roll and decided to go around (only to be over ruled by the captain who aborted the GA).
  5. Thanks for the pics and the video!! Awesome!! Can't wait for it to start operartions in to Melbourne (albeit, Avalon). Arriving into Avalon should be an interesting experience for the flight crew, given that the airport is in class G airspace (Non-controlled airspace) and the airport currently doesn't have the control tower manned. Hopefully this will change in the future. Anyway, it's also interesting and nice to see in the video that they read "do'a" on the aircraft of the new A330. Is this done with all new aircraft deliveries in Air Asia? What about for MAS aircraft. Do they read "do'a selamat" for new aircraft arrivals? (For our non Muslim friends, "do'a" is a 'prayer')
  6. Ok, I was referring to Air Asia Thailand. The 4 times I've flown with them, their aircraft were parked at remote stands where we caught a bus from the terminal to where the aircraft was parked. It's that bus I'm referring to. I've just booked another flight with Air Asia Thailand and paid the extra 200 baht for priority boarding .. so I'd like to know whether it was worth it or not. There's no point paying 200 baht if all it means is I get to board the bus before everyone else. It will still be a mad rush for everyone from the bus to board the plane.
  7. Well, as the saying goes, time is money. If this guy (the complainant) doesn't want to waste time with unexpected delays, then pay the money and go with a full service airline, not with a LCC. LCC caters for the leisure market, ie people on holidays with time to spare .. not business men/women wishing to meet meeting deadlines. When will people learn that the L in LCC stands for Lepak ..hahaha
  8. Anyone know what's the situation when the aircraft is parked at a remote stand and you catch the bus to the aircraft? I mean, do pax with express boarding go through the gate first .. only to get on the bus .. and then it's still a mad rush from the bus to the aircraft?
  9. You might want to try contacting this guy. I believe he's a radio DJ in Malaysia and flies for fun. This is a quote from his website http://jfk.lifelogger.com/193860
  10. Andy, I agree with FK Wong .. check the ASI on your take-off run and if it doesn't register then abort the take-off. Blowing into the pitot tube is not recommended coz if it's really blocked, then it will only make it worst. And furthermore, you won't know for sure coz the ASI will read zero if blocked ... and it will also read zero if you haven't blown hard enough. Not that I'm an expert or anything .. just my dua sen worth Happy flying and cheers!
  11. Quite a hairy approach path, but the landing was a perfect x-wind landing. Now, this is a CrAzY landing!
  12. Thanks for posting the add. It's interesting that they advertised for pilots in Australia before advertising in Malaysia. I wonder if they received any applicants from Oz? Anyone in Oz with those sort of command hours could pretty much jump into a jet job with Virgin Blue, Jetstar or Tiger, no problem.
  13. For those of you aspiring to become airline pilots, the Multi Crew Pilots License (MPL) is probably the quickest ropute to go from 0 hours to the right hand seat of an airliner. Some say this can be done in as fast as 12 to 18 months. The MPL is a relatively new pilots license and I only know of one flying school currently offering it in the Phillipines. Alteon in Brisbane has a beta programme underway with a few cadets from China. However, it appears that there will be a flying school offering the MPL soon, based in Singapore. This notice was posted on another discussion forum about a new MPL program starting in soon in the region. Any guesses as to who this training provider in SG might be? For more info about the Multicrew Pilots License, visit the ICAO FAQ's here.
  14. I was astonished when I saw this advertisement in one of our local papers in Australia. MASWings advertising for pilots in Australia on expat terms? So does anyone have the gosp? Is it because local cadet pilots are being destined for the jets, thus leaving the turbo prop positions vacant? Or I'm guessing, perhaps this is an interim measure to destine local turbo prop crews on new equipment (just a guess .. perhaps for the ATR72-500) whilst phasing out the old? (again, just a guess). Thoughts anyone? *side note .. would love to fly the DHC6, myself .. looks like a good operation for serious stick and rudder flying *
