  1. You do realize that the RM73 non-ASEAN PSC fee for KLIA Terminal 2 is the same amount charged for *all passengers* departing from Malaysia to non-ASEAN destinations right? Regardless if the pax is flying JHB-CAN on AK (non MAHB operated airport) or KCH-SZX or PEN-HKG, it's RM73 for these pax as well. I don't see why KUL T2 should get a lower PSC.
  2. Sounds like an over-entitled blogger, but what's new? MH at least sent him an e-mail notifying about the seat change (AFAIK, no airline has sent me a notification about a seat change, including MH this time around and I was bumped from my seat on KUL-BKI) and apparently it happens all the time (again, it's very rare for MH to move you from an assigned seat unless you are in F-cabin sold as 2-cabin flight). MH only opens up the F-cabin if J-cabin is full (hence you may assign a seat on the 380 F on 2-cabin service to NRT/ICN) but they will kick you out if they can accommodate everyone in the J cabin. I've flown 2-cabin service in 3-cabin plane before (or 3-cabin service in 4-cabin plane). It's a YMMV situation. IME: - CX blocks all F seats prior to check-in. They will open F cabin during OLCI to their Diamonds, OWE as well as pax connecting to/from F cabin - TG closes the F section or the upper deck on the 744 (depending on your luck), but seat re-assignment is usually done at the airport - BA also closes the F section but will open up if needed, but I don't fly BA that much - we should ask the GGL or GCH Because those who uses social media to judge an airline usually don't buy revenue F tickets
  3. Do you think MH has unlimited supply of funds? They are already taking delivery of 12 wide-bodies between 2017 and 2018 (and this excludes the yay or nay on the 380s) - that is a lot of capacity in a very short period of time especially when they weren't expanding that much for the past few years. NS18 is probably one of the largest MH expansion I have seen in years. That's a bilateral issue. No new international slots are expected at HND until around 2020 when Tokyo hosts the Summer Olympics. No Japanese carriers took up HND-KUL authority when Malaysia was awarded a daily slot at HND; hence the Japanese government did not award Malaysian carriers a second slot at HND when the next round opened up (compared to one or two daytime slots at HND from neighboring countries including Vietnam, Philippines, and Indonesia). Now that NH operates HND-KUL, both JL and NH can request for another daily slot at HND to open up another HND-KUL link (if they deem appropriate).
  4. MW dreams - LAX, CDG, FRA, AMS, JNB, EWR, YVR etc. Hindsight is always 20/20, no? It wasn't too long ago when MH was struggling terribly after the twin disasters that prompted MH to shrink. A lot. Once daily 738 to PVG, 3 daily 738 to HKG, pulling out of AMS, CDG, FRA, BNE and a whole slew of others. Imagine this at MH's boardroom meeting in Dec. 2014: Intern: My analysis showed that we will need to lease more wide bodies in 3 years, expand in China by resuming second daily into Shanghai and will be served by 330s on both flights, expand into secondary Chinese cities such as Fuzhou, Haikou, Chengdu, Chungking, Hangzhou, and Nanjing. Others: I want whatever you are smoking! Nobody at that time thought that MH could recover to this level today in just 3 years - expanding rapidly into China now when China was one of MH's worst market then. 350s were ordered to replace the 380s to serve LHR. As bad as MH was back then, at least they knew the value of LHR slots (they could have easily sold it and never return). PS: I am curious about the Haj/Umrah charter plans. Let's say they re-configure the 380s into 2-class configuration with 600 seats (a conservative estimate) and they send 4 380s to MED/JED/RUH (2 spares or just for rotation since only 1 frame is needed for KSA rotation) a day - that's 2,400 available seats to KSA per day or approximately 864,000 seats a year to KSA - is there such a large market for pilgrimage charters (especially when there aren't that many connections that feed to charter flights) year round?
  5. Wow. Talk about tight turnaround time. Even at KUL! For the 1st 332 that will operate KUL-DAC/CAN: CAN: 1:25 DAC: 1:00 KUL: 1:00 and 4:30
  6. Actually there is a market between FRA and KUL - just not the type that LH/MH can afford to fly at the moment. After all, Germany is Malaysia's largest trading partner in the EU. Both MH and LH doesn't have the right aircraft to serve this route. LH was stuck with fuel guzzlers 340s on this route whilst MH had 772s before they were retired (and 380 is definitely not possible). And it was extremely difficult for both LH and MH to sustain this flight since neither had beyond agreements after reaching the end-point.
  7. What does this translate to OTP for the 737s? Are they planning to merge/cancel flights a few days before departure or just do it on the day of?
  8. DAC. 1st 332 will do CAN and DAC. 2nd 332 will do DEL and DPS. 3rd is currently scheduled for HKG only since it RON at HKG. Maybe they are going to the adopting agency and pick it back up It sure looks like it. F have been zeroed out. I can't say I am surprised tho. August through October is hardly peak-travel season to/from NZ. "Let's splurge on a F class ticket and see wind-battered island" - says no one ever.
  9. Full changes here. Other notable changes: 1) Kuala Lumpur - Dhaka MH 196/197 equipment change from 738 to 332 2) Kuala Lumpur - Hong Kong MH 78/79 equipment change from 738 to 332 3) Kuala Lumpur - Adelaide increase from 4 to 5 weekly Still no signs of additional flights/capacity to MH Australia's stepchild - PER Neglected and delayed for the past few months
  10. Schedule for ex-AB 332 has been loaded. Initial destinations include CAN, DEL, and DPS. J is rows 1-6 with 1-2-1 seating configuration and Y is rows 14 to 50 with 2-4-2 configuration
  11. A few more updates/corrections: 1) MH loaded its KUL-FOC/NKG schedules for Summer 2018. It seems like it won't go the way of WUH after all 2) KUL-CAN will be served initially by MH 333, but will switch to ex-AB 332 later 3) KUL-ICN will be increased from 10 to 12 weekly (additional day 57 ex-KUL and 16 ex-ICN on MH 38/39) 4) KUL-DEL equipment change from MH 333 services to ex-AB 332 5) KUL-DPS on MH 714/715 equipment change from 738 to ex-AB 332 (last summer was MH 333)
  12. Now I know where I can easily redeem my 50K AA miles for MH P class They never said that. AUBT speculated that but that was denied by a member here (whom I assume works for MH)
  13. Or subsidy ended AFAIK, MH doesn't really do seasonal routes - they usually do it year-round (minus charters). The NRT up gauge seems like a placeholder for the 3 remaining 359s. 3 is required for the 2 daily LHR, 1.7 more for NRT (MH 70/71 is 5 weekly) and they still have 1.3 left. Even with a daily AMS, MH can still operate 1 daily AMS/NRT and 2 daily LHR plus a 3-5 hour regional turn (HKG?) with 6 359s. And of course MH hasn't updated its schedule for the ex-AB 332s which should free up even more 333s.
  14. You left out the part where I was comparing MY to all ASEAN countries and not UK or Japan? Maybe I should make it clearer that MY is the *cheapest amongst* ASEAN countries for intra-ASEAN flights and one of the cheapest to non-ASEAN destinations. If the average Malaysian traveler to non-ASEAN countries can't afford to pay RM23 more, what do you think of the average residents of Cambodia or Philippines who has to pay even more taxes for a short hop to a neighboring country? Connectivity and airport taxes don't really go hand in hand. As previously mentioned, MY does not charge transit passengers taxes like most other countries do. Heathrow or Frankfurt with its exorbitant taxes manage to attract tons of connecting passengers. Even if MY eliminates its PSC, LH/AF/QF and the likes won't return to KUL anytime soon. You could have an amazing airport with extremely low airport taxes but it won't attract a lot of airlines; case in point - DOH. Without QR, DOH will just be as busy as PEN/BKI.
  15. Depends on how late the delay was posted. If the delay was posted after check-in has closed, they don't usually reopen check in (possible reasons include mechanical, weather, ATC holds etc.). If the delay was posted long before check-in was scheduled to close, they usually delay check-in closing time (especially with a delayed inbound and on rare occasions or outstations, they'll delay counter opening time too). I always OLCI if possible to avoid being in your shoe. That way, I can at least run to the gate if I am late. Bags will go on standby if need be Out of curiosity, how much did you bid for the MHUpgrade?
  16. A few notable changes for Sumer 2018: 1) MH launches (or resumes?) Hangzhou, China: MH520 KUL1745 - 2300HGH 738 357 MH521 HGH2355 - 0535+1KUL 738 357 2) Kuala Lumpur - Tokyo Narita increase from 10 to 12 weekly wef 08MAY18 (additional frequency on day 24) MH70 KUL0950 - 1800NRT 333 Dx16 MH71 NRT2125 - 0410+1KUL 333 Dx16 3) Kuala Lumpur - Tokyo Narita equipment change from 333 to 359 (beginning with MH88/89 and then MH70/71 as well). Sold as 3-cabin. 4) MH resumes Yogjakarta, Indonesia beginning June 2018 (not targeting leisure pax? No Friday/Saturday service): MH857 KUL0945 - 1120JOG 738 1237 MH856 JOG1220 - 1555KUL 738 1237 5) Kuala Lumpur - Guangzhou equipment change from 738 to 333 6) Kuala Lumpur - Fuzhou will be suspended (currently served 3 weekly on 738) 7) Kuala Lumpur - Nanjing will be suspended (currently served 3 weekly on 738)
  17. It seems like those 359 flights to PEN and BKK are sold as 3-cabin for the next few days - perhaps that why it was blocked? They aren't selling F fare, but EF availability shows F4 A4 P4 etc.
  18. Opppps. That's probably an intern using cookie-cutter response to all FB queries.
  19. As of now, it looks like only SIN/BKK is affected but who knows if/when the next sweep happens and kick pax out from domestic services (PEN/BKI).
  20. No one likes to pay (additional) taxes, but this is just leveling the playing field between T1 and T2 (no other airports in the world, AFAIK, charges taxes differently based on the terminal [not airport] they fly out from). Before everyone starts complaining, airport taxes ex-ASEAN major cities to KUL (on MH) for your consideration: Brunei: RM 37 (PSC) Cambodia: RM 102 (PSC) Indonesia: RM 46 (PSC) Laos: RM 62 (PSC) Myanmar: RM 14 (APIS) + RM 82 (PSC) = RM 96 Philippines: RM 131 (PH Travel Tax) + RM 45 (PSC) = RM 176 Singapore: RM 19 (SG Aviation Levy) + RM 25 (PSC) RM 61 (Passenger Security Fee) = RM 105 Thailand: RM 88 (PSC) + RM 2 (International Departure Fee) + RM 5 (APIS) = RM 95 Vietnam: RM 82 (PSC) + RM 9 (Pax/Bag Security Fee) = RM 91 Malaysia (for ASEAN): RM 35 (PSC) + RM 2.10 (GST - variable) = RM 37.10 Malaysia (for non-ASEAN): RM 73 + GST In addition, Thailand charges RM 5 for APIS plus RM 2 for all international arrivals. Malaysia already has the lowest departure fees/taxes to ASEAN countries and one of the lowest taxes to non-ASEAN countries. If you *really* want to save on the RM23, you can always fly to an ASEAN airport and connect to a non-ASEAN flight from there, but you'll have to pay taxes at the connecting airport too Malaysia on the other hand doesn't charge connecting pax taxes. The grass is not always greener on the other side Remind me again, which other airport in the world charges differently based on how nice the terminal is or how far one has to walk?
  21. OD loaded/launched their PNH flight with a week's notice?!
  22. Specifically the 350 D1. All of DL's flatbed international product is D1 - and you could get anything from the older Thompson Vantage XL to herringbone to the enclosed suites on the 350 Same same but different
  23. The plane/crew could also operate PEK-BKI-FOC vv. Just a slight tweak in MFs FOC-BKI-FOC could make this work
  24. Most international tickets aren't reversible (e.g. LAX-KUL fares aren't the same as KUL-LAX fares). Id love it to be - Id save a lot for my flights to EU or Cairo
