alberttky 0 Report post Posted June 28, 2013 NEW DELHI: The falling rupee has claimed a new victim — the male cabin crew. Low cost carrier GoAir has decided to recruit only airhostesses from now on instead of the 'heavier' male flight pursers. The idea is to lighten the aircraft to reduce fuel burn because of increased operating costs.GoAir currently has 330 cabin crew members, 40% of whom are males. Every additional kg on board costs Rs 3 per flight hour. With an airhostess weighing about 15-20kg less than a male flight purser, Go expects to save about Rs 2.5 crore to Rs 3 crore annually. The airline's 130-odd male flight pursers will keep flying but future cabin crew recruitments will be all airhostesses. Go plans to induct about 80 aircraft over next seven years, for which it will recruit about 2,000 airhostesses and pilots. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/GoAir-opts-for-female-crew-to-save-fuel/articleshow/20805888.cms?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=timesofindia

Alif A. F. 0 Report post Posted June 29, 2013 Perhaps, airlines should actively promote healthy living and fitness to all passengers, in a subtle way of course.
Naim 6 Report post Posted June 29, 2013 Mandatory bowel/bladder-emptying of pax and crew before boarding might work better ... and everybody feeling better too.

Philip 1 Report post Posted June 30, 2013 Why not the pilots also since most of the senior pilots usually put on weights I prefer if they giver out 'bonuses' to the flight crew if they're below a certain average weight. If that happens, I'll be getting huge bonuses every year because I'm well below average and hence saving my company mucho dinero on every flight
Cire 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2013 Can't help to think that such move is kinda sexist and a discrimination to the male FAs. What will happen when the fairer gender FA begins to gain weight? Will they be booted out as well? Perhaps instead of discriminating the crews, airlines should charge more for fuel or better still upgrade to larger airplanes to get that thin economies of scales.Perhaps too they change to the now much modern seats which are thinner and lighter overall. Lock SH 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2013 What will happen when the fairer gender FA begins to gain weight? Will they be booted out as well? Just do what SQ does, weight and shape check all the time, either one is out, you will be booted out (taken off from duty UFN) ........
