My collegemate Sister forwarded these photos to me (as she was a FSS with MASwings) on the New Year's Day. And she also gave her permission to me to upload the photos too.

So i consider it as a opening photo for the KCH thread for the year 2017.

Pardon for the quality of the photos as it was snapped using a smartphone.

MASwings ATR 72-500 'Kuching'. This plane was honored in a 1:400 scale model made by Gemini Jets last month. The first photo was cropped in order to remove the hand rail, as per photo below:

Looking forward for interesting photos from KCH for the year 2017.

Where on the aircraft do they write the name of the plane - was looking for "Kuching"  but did not see it. I thought it would appear just below the cockpit window but cannot see anything there.

It's beneath the Jalur Gemilang and MALAYSIA in dark blue. Hard to make out with the dark green background. By the way Tamizi, perfect aircraft to open up the new thread for the year!

On 11 January 2017 marks sad day for us Sarawakian as our beloved Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem passed away due to heart attack. His funeral schedule for 12 January 2017.  :(

Wasn't expecting any heavies at first, then fellow spotter send msg in whatsapp group that Sultan of Brunei aircraft just departed Bandar Seri Begawan (he got it from FR24). Then i quickly take my shower and rush to spotting location shophouse. So here's my spotting log for today.

While waiting for His Majesty Sultan arrival, this Viking 400 9M-SSC decide to sneak in.

The only female Vikings 400 co-pilot for MASwings on duty today

Good to take aircraft picture with clear blue sky as background. It's like taking passport picture for the aircraft. hahaha

31457372073_79d2aa24a8_b.jpg

Was excited to see this B747 is without the normal B744 winglets. Coz it only mean 1 thing. It's the B747-8i with raked wingtips. And this is the first Boeing 747-8i to touchdown on Malaysian airports. Though the cargo version have touchdown few times at KLIA.

Few minutes after the Sultan has landed, Raya Airways Boeing 767-223(BDSF) 9M-RXA depart via Runway 07.

The Sultan did not spend the night in Kuching. Here His Majesty aircraft seen taxying to taxiway Alpha for Rwy 25 departure.

Few opposition leaders from Peninsular also came to pay their last respect. Particularly Selangor MB, Azmin Ali. But no idea which aircraft he used. Maybe commercial.

Spotted few private jets also. Here they are:

HB-JKI a Gulfstream G550 at Cargo Apron

T7-TAA a Bombardier Global 5000 (BD-700-1A11) rested at Bay R3 while few ground crews wait under her wing. Probably waiting for her VIP passenger.

DCA calibrator 9M-FCL also spotted nearby.

T7-TAA finally departs Runway 25.

My turn. Gonna post the arrival first. Got the alert at 10.30 by Kenneth and was confirmed with a quick check on FR24. Rushed to prepare to go to the airport. Reached the airport, checked radar and it was already descending somewhere over Sibu doing over 500kts ground speed. What a beast! Security pass issuance felt slow and painful and I bolted all the way airside with minutes more to spare for the first sighting of this magnificent 747-800, making it the first ever of its type to land in Kuching. Although the reason for its visit was a sad one..

Landed 11.28am. The first Boeing 747 to land in Kuching in 2017 with the previous one being 9M-MPR back in March 2016. Lighting was on the other side of the runway with Chris.
32150188581_afdbc68963_b.jpg

I expected it to vacate via B, hence positioning myself between gate 5 and 6, hoping to get the iconic 747 nose shot. But it thundered past all the way to vacate via C. A mad dash to the MAS Golden Lounge escalator area to have my view blocked by Perdana One which landed the previous night. Passengers from gate 6 waiting area and some airport staff soon followed behind me, all hoping to catch a photo of the Jumbo.

First time photographing this aircraft. The lighting did help for this angle.
32150186911_7b74f14ff5_b.jpg

And here comes His Majesty!
32120381392_8a38553abd_b.jpg

Clean perfect 747 nose shot dreams shattered by our beloved PM's aircraft.
32120379852_cecf47d6ca_b.jpg

Docking into bay 8. Dubbed the Flying Palace by Captain Arturo.
31428193134_103df0792e_b.jpg

Taken from outside gate 8 departure holding area. At this point some passengers from gate 6 and airport staff have already started to gather near gate 8 arriving passengers exit area only to be shooed away by security personnel not long after.
31428191754_772a2c1c42_b.jpg

Went into gate 8 holding area via the departing passengers door, security didn't seem to object. It was, indeed a very rare occasion. Aircraft wingspan was so huge it can't fit the fully zoomed out frame. 9M-MXA lifting off runway 25 in the background.
32150171101_30d8bf0751_b.jpg

Could've spied my way into the cockpit with a longer lens..Zoomed in and the pilot in the right hand seat was a mat salleh. He had a German accent when I was listening in to ATC so safe to assume he is German. Can't confirm whether the person in the left seat was the Sultan himself, though.
31428187284_4360dfb3f4_b.jpg

Will post the departure portion when I'm done with editing.

Thanks for sharing, guys!  :clapping:

B744-8 WHAT A BEAUTY! Fantastic stretched upper deck. Wish it was under happier circumstances when she came in. Still, a visual treat and proof of the fact that the Jumbo is one timeless beauty. Thank you for the photos guys.

While our Prime Minister spent the night in Kuching, the Sultan of Brunei was here for only around 5 hours. He departed back to Bandar Seri Begawan at 4pm.

Perdana One with the towbar in place and the APU running, ready to go at a moment's notice. The Prime Minister's aides and those travelling with him boarded via aft airstairs and shortly after, the PM himself and his wife boarded. Total POB: 31.
31947809930_72fd8659cd_b.jpg

The Sultan pushed first, all the way onto taxiway C. Even from inside the terminal, the engine startup is audible. Music to my ears! Was hoping for Perdana One to get out of the way first for another attempt at the 747 nose shot. But was once again denied.
32174921082_95d77e2c4a_b.jpg

Followed by Perdana One for the push.
31947797160_10d9ce7701_b.jpg

Two very different government jets.
32174916962_c796664284_b.jpg

Despite having a longer startup time, the Sultan was first in line for taxi for a runway 25 full length departure. I wonder what it would've felt like being in the A319, with the 747 taxiing right past, dwarfing every single aircraft at the airport.
31513935743_51d24b0eed_b.jpg

Still in awe till this day. What a treat!
31482762974_25acf06b88_b.jpg

Perdana One followed behind, also for a runway 25 full length departure.
