Special Police Battalion To Ensure Security At KLIA From Thursday

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police has set up a special battalion to ensure security at the KL International Airport (KLIA) from Thursday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said Wednesday.

He said the 141 General Operations Force (GOF) personnel headed by DSP Hapka Mohd Said would begin their duty at 7 am Thursday.

In the event of a crisis, the battalion would be assisted by an elite police crisis response team, he said in a statement.

Musa explained that the special battalion was formed to provide round-the-clock security to prevent security breaches, undesirable acts and criminal activities at the KLIA, to ensure that the nation's image was untarnished.

"Physical security at the KLIA depends on holistic security control such as physical protective measures (barriers, lighting and electronic security), procedural security measures and terrorism counteraction measures and value-added human intervention.

"The decision to station the special force at the KLIA was made following discussions with various government agencies and I hope the people will not be intimidated by its presence but will extend their cooperation," he said.

On April 9, four armed men shot and injured five people, among them a policeman and a money-changer, during a S$1.5 million (RM3.3 million) robbery at the airport.

Guess 4WD vehicles stolen from MTB car park must be serious for MAHB to have extra security to guard 4WD exclusively.

In normal military practice with a personnel strength of 140 men hardly can be called a battalion ,more likely a company strength. In the Malaysian Army the average strength for a "standard infantry battalion" is about 700 -800 men, which is roughly the NATO standard. For an Armored Regiment or Artillery Regiment the personnel strength are different due to its tasking and mission.

1:Army/Rifle section/squad = 9

2:Army/Rifle platoon = 30-40 (3 x squads)

3:Army/Infantry company = 100-200 (3 x platoons + HQ platoon)

4:Army/Infantry Battalion = 700-800 (3 x Rifle companies + HQ company)

5:Army/Infantry Brigade = 3000 - 4000 (3 x Infantry Battalions + supporting Arms)

The military designations as used by the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM):

NATO US

Rifle Section Section Squad

Platoon:Infantry Platoon Platoon

Cavalry Troop Platoon

Coy:Infantry Company Company

:Cavalry Squadron Troop

Batt:Infantry Battalion Battalion

:Cavalry Regiment Squadron

6:Army/Infantry Division = 9000 - 15000 (3 or more Infantry Brigades+ Armor Regt +Arty Regt + Supporting Arms)
