BC Tam 2 Report post Posted May 17, 2007 (edited) Sourced from the star online today : Woman who threatened MAS hijack held PENANG: A woman from India who boarded a Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Penang threatened to “hijack” the plane during the flight. According to sources, the 35-year-old woman boarded the plane at about 6pm yesterday with two children, aged one and three. She went to the cockpit area and ordered one of the stewards to let her into the cockpit. She threatened to “take over the plane” when the steward stopped her. The crew managed to pacify her and convinced her to return to her seat. Upon arrival at the Penang International Airport at around 7pm, the steward lodged a police report and the woman was arrested. She has been detained for questioning. Anyone got further info ? Edited May 17, 2007 by BC Tam

BC Tam 2 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 (edited) An update, also sourced from thestar online : I was only joking, says woman who threatened hijack PENANG: The woman from India who threatened to hijack a Malaysia Airlines flight from Kuala Lumpur to Penang told police that she was only joking. However, Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Mohd Hatta Mohd Zain said the police did not view it as a laughing matter. Supt Mohd Hatta said the 35-year-old mother of two was upset when her request to view the cockpit with her two daughters, aged one and three, was rejected by a steward. “She then told the steward that her daughters, aged one and three, might be unable to hijack the plane but she could if she wanted to. “The woman went back to her seat and was subsequently arrested when the plane touched down at the Penang International Airport at about 7pm on Wednesday,” he said. She was released at about 2am yesterday on police bail after being questioned for more than four hours. It is learnt that the woman is married to a Malaysian working in Penang. Supt Mohd Hatta said the outcome of police investigations would be handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor who would decide whether to charge the woman. Meanwhile, MAS issued a statement saying that the incident occurred not in mid-air but when the plane was already in Penang and the passengers had started disembarking. “The flight from Kuala Lumpur to Penang itself was uneventful. There was neither disruption nor security breach by any passenger,” the carrier said. Think she will be let off with a slap on the wrist ? Strange though, one version has it the incident happened when pax were already disembarking at PEN, whilst the other implied that the 'indiscretion' occured before arrival at PEN Edited May 18, 2007 by BC Tam
Rozhan 0 Report post Posted May 18, 2007 What a pity. She wanted her children to enjoy a cockpit visit, but got herself in trouble for it. She could try again, but maybe not on MH after this incident. If MH would be kind enough and arrange for the kids to tour the cockpit on some other occasion, it will be a good PR. BC Tam 2 Report post Posted May 21, 2007 Oh dear ! (again, courtesy of thestar online) Nation Monday May 21, 2007 Only a joke but airline not taking it lightly A MAN landed in the soup for a joke he made while boarding a plane at the Kuching International Airport. Sin Chew reported that the man, who hand-carried a heavy box containing car parts, had told an air stewardess in jest that it was a “bomb.” Although he explained that it was a joke, the stewardess reported the incident to the flight captain, who summoned the security guards to escort the man out of the plane. The man was to board the 3.20pm plane from Kuching to Sibu. He was, however, detained by police for questioning. ..... > China Press reported that a female passenger's claim about “owning dangerous items” caused a two-and-a-half hour flight delay for 282 passengers in Singapore Changi Airport on Saturday evening. The woman was said to have told a stewardess that she had brought along some dangerous items before the plane took off for Kuala Lumpur. To ensure the safety of passengers, the airline decided to conduct another security check on all passengers and crew members before taking off.
