Cathay will resume the HKG- Shanghai flights after 16 years of absence, except that CX will not be returning to Shanghai Hongqiao airport (SHA), instead CX will be flying into Pudong International airport (PVG / ZSPD) with one daily flight utilising Airbus A330-300 or Airbus A340-313X.

16 years ago, CX handed the HKG-SHA route to sister airline Dragonair along with Beijing. CX has also returned to Beijing (PEK / ZBAA) a year or two ago. It was believed that PVG did not have enough slot to allocate for CX, thus the delayed return, with the new 'mirror' terminal at finishing, there will be extra slot available for CX at Pudong.

CX will be start the HKG-PVG route on 1 December 2006.

KA already have 15x daily flights between HKG/PVG and 16x - 17x daily flights on certain days. An average of 9x out of these 15x-17x daily flights are operated by KA 333. And MU got lots of flight also. And now CX. Congrats to CX :drinks:

26 flights a day is a lot! I think it will be around the same amounts of flight from HK - Beijing. I wonder what their load factor is like, because as far as I understand, it costs a bomb to catch the HK-mainland flights. Cheaper option is to go to Shenzhen Baoan airport (SZX) by catching a boat from HK Central or Kowloon Peninsular, or even by bus, then you will get a much cheaper fare!

Sneeze , good news from Ur National Airlines!!!! :drinks:

Haha, Raj. To me, such news mean nothing now.

Guess why?

Easy to get the answer I think.

It is all because CX has at last merged with KA.

So, if it is really meaningful for CX back to PVG?

The meaning is still here, but not as great as what we saw years before.

Agree?

I guess, once CX back to the market, KA's flights to/ from PVG will be reduced due to the collaboration.

Thanks for the feedback guys !

What can one do but just sit back, let the jaw drop and plain and simple just be amazed outta one's mind at the number of flights in/out HKG !!

Bear in mind, those are just flights to three destinations only, NOT counting flights from and flights to/from the very numerous other destinations.

Sneeze,

A word of warning - after HKG, you're likely to drop dead from sheer utter boredom if ever you try our BKI here !! :D

I have been to Pudong a few times and everytime I noticed that it is almost quite normal to see between 2-3 Dragonair A330/A320/A321 at the gates or apron at the same time! Thing is, KA does not fly to other Chinese destination from any Chinese cities, only directly to/from to HKG.

Taipei Taoyuan airport is almost like a second hub for CX. Almost all flights to Japan and Korea stops at Taipei, I am sure Sneeze can confirm this.

Yes, for KA's flts to PVG. They send all types. It may be caused of the flexiblility of the fleet, allows KA to provide frequent service to PVG. Yes again for the KA destinations, all KA PAX flts are with ONE leg only.

About TPE, ummm, TPE, BKK works nearly the same function, as a mini hub of CX. For TPE, it serves most of the flights to Japan, and ICN, but not all. There are 9 pairs of direct flts to Japan (KIX, NRT, NGO, SPK), 4 pairs of flts to ICN; whereas 4 pairs of flts to JPN (@ for KIX, NRT, NGO, FUK), 1 pair of flts to ICN.
