Naim 6 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1100601/L/ I was following the above link and stumbled upon this MH tailstrike in ZRH, '04: http://snipurl.com/vn1b What's the story with this?
Mohd Idham 0 Report post Posted August 29, 2006 (edited) Its has been discussed before Naim, check-out that thread. I forgot which one.. According to TK, during rotation, a sudden gust coming in and blow our plane. It was in micro-seconds, too fast for pilots to response..the result, boomm, tail strike...!! After about 45 minutes dumping fuel over ZRH, that plane landed back safely with a batalion of fire trucks waiting.. The pushback truck driver or ATC that give clearance or 777's pilots ?? http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1100601/L/ Would've been the pushback truck or generally ppl on the ground? They should, technically, have a better/clearer lookout on what's happening on the tarmac.
Radzi 2 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 First question: who hit who? Looks like the taxiing (?) Boeing hits the tail of the Airbus. One major ground rule: Aircraft taxiing under its own power always have the right of way before aircraft under tow or pushback.
Tony 1 Report post Posted August 30, 2006 Good point, Radzi. Had a look at the pic again, and it seems like the Bus was pushed back whilst the Boeing was taxiing and bANG!!

Min Chun 0 Report post Posted August 31, 2006 (edited) First question: who hit who? Looks like the taxiing (?) Boeing hits the tail of the Airbus. One major ground rule: Aircraft taxiing under its own power always have the right of way before aircraft under tow or pushback. Seems like the B777 was taxiing on its own while the Airbus was pushing pack So it was the Airbus's baby fault looking at the picture.. Well this is just my guess Edited August 31, 2006 by Min Chun

Well this is just my guess not neccesarily, you never know if the t7 was taxiing where it shouldnt be? we dont know. btw, the topic is kind of misleading with the word 'tragic'
Gavin Andrew David 6 Report post Posted September 2, 2006 Whether the 777 was taxiing on the wrong taxiway or not . Ground shouldn't have issued pushback clearance until the 777 was clear . On the other hand , Push back truck driver blind ah ?
Tony 1 Report post Posted September 3, 2006 On the other hand , Push back truck driver blind ah ? Maybe his shift was coming to an end? Too tired to be aware of the situation at that time, maybe.

After about 45 minutes dumping fuel over ZRH, that plane landed back safely with a batalion of fire trucks waiting.. well, dumping fuel over Germany (black forest) to be exact... very unfortunate for MAS that this pic made it to the front page of the local papers, and the kid was interviewed on prime time news. After that, I hear a lot of people saying that they prefer to fly SQ instead of MH because of this tail strike... uh, hello, wasn't there an incident in New Zealand with SQ??? Romeo Juliet was then stuck in ZRH for about 2 months for repairs...
