flee 5 Report post Posted December 15, 2013 (edited) Maybe A330/A350 Regional and A350-1000? A330 orders may change to the 242 tonne and/or regional versions. They might also add/amend the original order to take the A350 Regional and A350-1000 for their return to EU countries. And while they are placing orders, why not also look at the A321 NEO.... These will be quite useful for adding frequencies to the Asia Pacific routes. Edited December 15, 2013 by flee

flee 5 Report post Posted December 15, 2013 Could it be for the fleet based in Thailand & Indonesia ? Yes, I am sure that the Thai and Indonesia Ops are factored in. Also, the A340s will be returned to lessors in 2015 and older aircraft may also be returned or retired. I would think that any new order for A350s will only be delivered after 2017. flee 5 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 A350 is for the longer term - as replacements for the current fleet of A330s. However, I think they are looking for A330s urgently so that they can get Thai and Indonesia Airasia X up and running ASAP. With the announcement of NokScoot and Tiger Air Taiwan, there is a greater sense of urgency.
Mohd Azizul Ramli 2 Report post Posted December 17, 2013 Maybe A330/A350 Regional and A350-1000? A330 orders may change to the 242 tonne and/or regional versions. These will be quite useful for adding frequencies to the Asia Pacific routes. I don't think it will be an A350 order. Remember when the latest rumour about MH's 777 replacement first arose recently, insiders are saying that MH will take over D7's A350 slots. I also think that KUL-Europe will never get re-materialised due to economic reasons which, as a proceed make the A350 a mute point in D7's network. D7 will only operate A330s and serve destinations that can be reached by that aircraft from its hubs. The opening of the BKK hub however will open up a new horizon as D7 can fly to Europe from BKK with the A330s hence the future of all of AirAsia's Europe bound travellers is with D7 via BKK. flee 5 Report post Posted December 18, 2013 It is not just about range, it is also about the economics. With 20% better fuel burn, the A350 will surely feature in D7's fleet. With first deliveries due in 2017, that is still some time away. D7 will probably slowly transition to the A350 as their older aircraft (like 9M-XAA) are retired. flee 5 Report post Posted December 18, 2013 Reuters Report D7 is ordering 25 A330-300s with 10 more on option: PARIS (Reuters) - Malaysian long-haul budget carrier AirAsiaX announced an order for 25 Airbus A330-300 aircraft on Wednesday in a deal valued at $6 billion at list prices. Chief Executive Azran Osman Rani said he expected strong Asian demand in the future given that low-cost airlines had not penetrated the market in that part of the world as much as in Europe or the United States. "I will bet my bottom dollar that this is not the last order we will place," he told Reuters. The carrier, the long-haul arm of Asia's largest low cost airline by passengers, AirAsia , said it had options for another 10 of the same Airbus planes. JuliusWong 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2013 Insummary: > Firm order for 25x A330-300 > The carrier will also lease six additional A330-300s from ILFC > Deliveries will start in 2015 > The deal is for the new 242t MTOW A330 > No A350 conversions
flee 5 Report post Posted December 19, 2013 Actually I am wondering if this ILFC thing is already done or a new contract, bringing the total number of ILFC leased aircraft to 12. > The deal is for the new 242t MTOW A330 > No A350 conversions I don't think ALL the aircraft are the 242t version. They mentioned "some" only. I think the A350 was ordered for the super long haul routes - EU and US. So these will probably be taken and those routes will be introduced when the aircraft arrives.
