MASwings to revive KK-Mulu sector

Posted on March 18, 2011, Friday

KUCHING: MASwings will revive the Kota Kinabalu-Mulu sector by introducing a direct non-stop Kota Kinabalu-Mulu-Kota Kinabalu service, effective March 27.

“With the increase of tourist arrival into Kota Kinabalu, after its introduction as Malaysia Airline’s Eastern Hub and the commencement of direct services from KK-Haneda and KK- Kaohsiung on 15 November 2010 as well as KK-Perth on 15 Jan 2011, we believe the route will be able to meet the demand of many tourist arrivals into Kota Kinabalu continuing their journey to Mulu” said head of commercials Azlan Awang Tanjong.

Over the past month, the traffic growth from Kota Kinabalu to Mulu via Miri has increased substantially.

The introduction of this direct service is a clear commitment to assist the Government of Sarawak to make Mulu more accessible and reachable to many tourists, he added.

MASwings has been active in promoting Sabah and Sarawak worldwide through our Malaysia Airlines offices and are working alongside both states’ tourism bodies.

In addition to that, MASwings has also organized various familiarization trips for several media bodies in Peninsular Malaysia to have a first hand stay and adventure experience in Mulu.

Prior to the introduction of the direct services, tourists have to travel from Kota Kinabalu to Miri before taking a connecting flight from Miri to Mulu, which took them almost one hour 50 minutes including transit time.

The direct service will take approximately 50 minutes and the reduction in time will allow tourists more time to explore Mulu to the fullest.

The non-stop flight from Kota Kinabalu to Mulu and vice versa will operate three times a week on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

The flight from Kota Kinabalu will depart at 12.30pm and arrive in Mulu at 1.20pm, whereas the flight from Mulu will depart at 1.45pm and arrive in Kota Kinabalu at 2.35pm.

In conjunction with the direct service, MASwings is offering special promotional fare which is on sale from now till March 21.

Fares are from RM95 one way on economy class excluding airport tax and other charges. Tickets can be purchased from Malaysia Airlines and MASwings ticketing office and call centre in Malaysia or via online at www.maswings.com.my.

The managing director of Royal Mulu Resort and Mulu Park Management, Dato’ Robert Geneid said: “I am delighted that MASwings has decided to commence a non stop direct service between Kota Kinabalu and Mulu effective March 27. Once again MASwings is taking the lead in opening up new and important sectors so vital to the success of our tourism industry. In this case, you are linking two of the hottest tourism destinations in the country and have made it easier for tourists to experience the best that Borneo has to offer” he added.

Meanwhile, MASwings also increases its flight frequency from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau and vice versa making it the fourth frequency flight which will operate three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, adding to its current frequency of three daily flights.

In Sarawak, MASwings will increase its flight frequency by adding an additional daily flight from Miri to Limbang and vice versa.

Any idea that MasWings is also now plying on Kuching - Sarikei route? It's daily on DHT.

It's being couple of years already; They operating it on a single daily flight every morning.Although Tanjung Manis now under the jurisdiction of Mukah Division, but the airport serves Sarikei (besides than SBW).

I've went to Tanjung Manis Airport (TGC/WBGT)on Mar 12th via land, amd when i've arrived there, the airport was quiet.

Technically, but most people from Sarikei use SBW instead (as flights to TGC was very limited, and the distance as well).

Ah, so safe to assume TGC is another of those projek mementingkan rakyat then ? ;)

You can say so; since there's a plan for the expansion of TGC and also creation of Cargo hangar at the proposed airport as well,as Tanjung Manis was Halal Industry Hub.

Anyhow, back to our actual topic here. That's mean starting from March 27th,BKI-MZV will be launched. From there MZV will witness 2 direct flights from KCH and BKI in the future.

Why the need to build Halal Hub in Mukah? Or Pahang, or Melaka? It is not commercially viable. Best example is the Westport Halal Hub, duh and still nothing to be proud of. I dun understand those state governments. The most important thing is licensing and regulating it.

Another white elephant in the making.. and ooh there's plenty of timber in that area and some jobs in building the infras too! <_< Sorry to be OOT
