Fantastic shots, Greg ! :good: I missed that Boeing Stearman as i left around 1315 yesterday. It was great meeting you guys, finally! :yahoo:

I'll start by introducing the airfield.

Serpentine Airfield(YSEN) is located about 55km south of Perth, Western Australia. The airfield was constructed and is maintained by Sport Aircraft Builders Club (SABC) members, who build and fly their own aircraft.

location.jpg

I was invited to join one of the sorties. To the left of the airfield are hangars where club members built and house their aircrafts. There are 2 runways at YSEN - Rwy 05-23 (910m Bitumen) & 09-27 (600m Grass)

View of some of the planes parked at the northern part of the airfield. The number of aircrafts that turned-up to this kampung air show was very very impressive. I logged more than 60 aircrafts yesterday !

Nah..The Rutan VariEze(pronounced Very Easy) nose gear is retracted for parking to avoid the aircraft from tipping back if the pilot is not in it.

Last Sunday, I revisited this Kampung airfield for the Serpentine Annual Fly-In. The event falls on every last Sunday of September. Lots of aircraft varieties turned up to the event such as kit planes, warbirds, LSA, gyros etc. Almost 100 aircrafts! Great to meet with the Australian MW members at the event - Greg Wood, Stuart McCarthy, Richard Siudak, Alistair Coutts & Neville Murphy

Yak-52..Smokey start-up as usual!

YAK52_YSENAA.jpg

Spitfire MK26B, 90% scale of the real Spitfire. Manufactured by Supermarine Aircraft,Australia. In the background is a North American T-28D Trojan. Many thanks to Greg for assisting me to get this shot.

A couple of ELA autogyros came to the event this year. They flew for two hours in this small aircraft to reach Serpentine...

GYRO_YSEN.jpg

X-Air 582, the airframe is just covered by a synthetic polyester fabric..

xair_YSEN_260910.jpg

Trojan very low fly-by !! i felt like small tremors due to the LOUD buzzing sound from its radial engine :D

Trojan_ysen.jpg

Went for a walk at the hangars and found this little cutie...Bede BD-5 :) Previously, it has a RAAF roundel on the fuselage. There's a nice clip of this Bede on youtube -

IWG_YSEN.jpg

Good to see another BD-5 but this one is still unfinished. A jet version of this aircraft type was used by James Bond in the film Octopussy.

Thanks for viewing :drinks:

As usual..every final Sunday of September, i'll head to this Kampung airfield in Western Australia for the Sport Aircraft Builders Club (SABC) Annual Fly-in.

Then it's time to check out the hangars, looks like there's someting interesting in this one..

Found this unfinished Rutan Quickie in another hangar. If i'm not mistaken, the design of the Eagle-150 was developed from the Rutan Quickie.

Time to go home...

Very nice and interesting pics, mates :clapping:

Greg: I especially like your photos of the T-28, the Swedish AF trainer and I find that you're very good of shooting portrait (The lady pilot in a Tiger Moth?)

Mir: Good to see your pics, you live in Australia or just a visit there? I love your merged photo of the T28. It reminds me of the defunct South Vietnam Air Force (VNAF) first combat planes, their T28 were equipped with 4 machine guns and racks for bombs and rockets. The Yak 52 is also good, Vietnam Air Force is still using this plane for training new pilots.

I live in Perth, there is now around fourteen T-28 in Australia. Most of them were recovered from Laos in 1988.
