Robin 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 I wondered the winglet is moveable?which mean it can be turned into different angle as controlled. Does someone knows it?
Imran K. 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 I wondered the winglet is moveable?which mean it can be turned into different angle as controlled. Does someone knows it? 22051 No.. Winglets cannot be moved nor controlled electronically or mechanically. Once installed..they are fixed in a certain position. However..they can be removed if the operator of that aircraft wishes to do so.

Ken K. Kour 0 Report post Posted December 28, 2005 hmmm... anyone remember hte original 777 project had folding winglets?? was so that it could fit into the 'box' (existing footprint of Md-11(issit?) at american airports, so that the wing tips could be folded up, so that hte plane could fit into the gate without the gate requiring extensive renovation)

I think it is more than just 'winglet size' that can be folded...but have not seen any pics of B777 with such feature.

Sandeep G 1 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 haha...nice one but y is Condoom? 22140 hahahha because he's doomed when he uses one! hahaha Imran, better switch to Ansell lah! Malaysian made also got what! Support our local rubber industry! even better, curi the ansell gloves and cut the fingers off lah! HAHAHA With regard to movable winglet.. they are not adjustable because a servo in the wingtip adds undesirable weight and may also will require additional service.. angle of winglet is optimised for typical flying conditions by aerodynamic specialists from Boeing and Airbus Although Boeing may argue that Airbus stole their ideas from the B744... look at the 330/340 winglets, they look very similar to the 744 ones Me, I like these new raked wing tips! Gives the plane a more "eagle look"!
Imran K. 0 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 Sandeep got it partly right...however..it was a spelling mistake i just couldnt be bothered to change... But stylo oso maa....condooom... Like how arabs call it... Ansell ah?...
Sandeep G 1 Report post Posted December 30, 2005 cheaper also lah bro.. local malaysian rubber.. when you pakai, you must think of the old indian aunty that stood for hours tapping the rubber tree into one coconut husk tied around the tree, then she must walk for MILES and MILES and MILES to the factory with so much load on her back and the rubber for you glove... i think after you think that ah, no mood already.. better frame the damn piece of rubber lah hahaha sorry ah, off topic Moveable winglets are being experimented on quite possibly on the triaviation score aircraft I am designing for uni at the moment, but the overall improvements in aerodynamic efficiency are marginal (based on calcs) and the additional weight from servo motors in the wing-tips is undesirable... If we were able to utilise these servos in our empennage, then is ok, because we can use the servo weight as counterbalance... but cannot liau.. alas, such is the V-tail... Now got two missile looking things from the outerends of the V-tail panels.. looks mean lah
