Qatar To Make Airbus Order At UK Air Show

July 9, 2008

Qatar Airways plans to hold a joint press conference with Airbus next week at Britain's Farnborough International Airshow, likely signaling a major plane order.

The company did not indicate what the press conference concerned, but an industry source said the Gulf-based airline was expected to announce a large plane order at the show.

Qatar Airways, one of the leading plane-buyers among quickly expanding Middle Eastern carriers, has traditionally been a staunch Boeing customer. Last year it ordered 30 of Boeing's new 787s and has 27 of its larger 777s on order.

At last year's Paris air show, Qatar confirmed a previously announced order for 80 new Airbus A350 XWB models -- which will compete with the 787 -- and three additional A380 superjumbos, worth about USD$17 billion in total.

...the 773's will replace the 4 346's (which will go to AKX ?)...

Farnborough Airshow Order Book

July 15, 2008

The Farnborough Airshow has been quieter than past events as record high fuel prices, tight credit and slowing economies have squeezed airlines and hurt ticket demand.

Following are orders that have been announced at the show:

WEDNESDAY:

** Korea's Asiana Airlines ordered 30 Airbus A350 XWB planes, with options on another 10, in a deal worth USD$7 billion at list prices. Delivery of the aircraft will begin in 2016.

** Malaysia Airlines said it ordered 35 Boeing 737-800 single-aisle planes in a deal worth USD$2.6 billion.

** Aviation Capital Group said it was buying 15 Boeing 737 planes in a USD$934 million deal.

** Russian planemaker Sukhoi said it had received a USD$600 million order for 20 Superjet 100 planes from an undisclosed customer. It also announced an agreement with AMA Group for five Superjet 100 planes, in a deal valued at USD$150 million.

TUESDAY:

** Airbus said Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) had confirmed a tentative order announced last November for 30 A350-900 planes and 70 A320 aircraft, in a deal worth USD$12.6 billion at list prices.

** Tunisair said it had signed a firm contract for three Airbus A350-800s, three A330-200s and 10 A320s, in a deal worth about USD$1.94 billion at list prices.

** Airbus said Aviation Capital Group ordered 23 A320 planes, a deal worth about USD$1.7 billion at list prices.

** Russian aircraft maker Sukhoi signed a provisional agreement to sell 24 of its Superjet planes to Russian leasing firm Avialeasing for around USD$630 million.

** Nigerian airline Arik ordered seven Boeing 737 single-aisle jets and said it intended to purchase four 747-8 airliners.

** Airbus said Russian airline Aeroflot had ordered five A321 aircraft, in a deal worth about USD$450 million at list prices.

** Qatar Airways said it had signed a memorandum of understanding for six Airbus A321 aircraft, made up of four firm orders and two options. The Gulf airline also said it was still interested in Bombardier's CSeries, and hoped to announce a further Airbus A320-family order soon.

MONDAY:

** Etihad said it was buying 25 Airbus wide-body A350 aircraft, 10 A380 superjumbos and 20 single-aisle A320 planes in a transaction worth USD$11 billion at list prices.

Etihad also ordered 35 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 10 Boeing 777s, in a deal Boeing said was worth USD$9.4 billion.

** Boeing said FlyDubai ordered 50 single-aisle 737 airliners, in a deal worth USD$4 billion at list prices. Start-up low-cost carrier FlyDubai is also taking four 737s from lessor Babcock & Brown.

** Airbus said state-owned Saudi Arabian Airlines ordered eight 295-seat twin-engine Airbus A330-300s, a deal worth USD$1.6 billion at list prices for the wide-body aircraft.
