Christopher Teoh 0 Report post Posted December 7, 2007 Wheel by GoodYear... Wow, interesting. From the wheel print it indicates that this is the former USAF SAC FB-111A nuclear bomber that was downgraded to a conventional 'G' before selling them to RAAF. It was shown at Subang Thread before the database crashed. Kwek 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2007 Pictures from my first visit to LIMA. Thanks due to TK, who spend quite a few minutes explaining to the taxi driver by phone where the location was..... The taxi driver got lost, and I landed up at a little village initially! The taxiing out sequence is full of drama.. Pairs departure. Surely one of the highlights of the trip. One Red Arrow aircraft returned for landing before the display. Mr TF was in the rear seat. There is only two categories of aerobatic teams. One is Red Arrows, and others..... Here are some pics of their fantastic routine. Diamond Bend Transiting to another formation..... Big Vixen Roll Helix Gypo pass ....and Gypo break! Upside down pass Catch me if you can! Close up! The Red Arrows is maddening red! A panning shot of the landing
Sri Ramani K. 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2007 Just like many, i too made my down to LGK for lima on saturday. Fortunate enough to get my ID75 ticket in the morning and headed off via AK 6292 at 8.20 AM (which was delayed until about 8.50 before we took off) to the paradise island to my knowing that uncle Chaity & another MW spotter which i'm not fond of were on the same flight as me too! My shots wouldn't be as good as uncle Norman, Kwek, TK or the others who have big DSLRs. As soon as i touched down, headed off for MIEC which was just a stone's throw away from the airport. I took many pictures from the static and also the formations but i guess i wouldn't be able to share all but a few that caught my eye. Here they are. The early morning crowd waiting to get in. DR SMS. He suddenly reminded me of a famous singer and he was busy signing out merchandises and posing with loads of people. The queue to get his signature alone was about 500m long. The Sukhoi Su-30 MKM on display. Just next to it was the Sukhoi Superjet. It has 93 orders already so far, and can seat about 94 pax and cost $24 mil USD. Just like Wilson, i wanted a pic of this too. The Airmacchi Soon after, i headed off to the airside for the statics. They were all over the place. Wilson, i read you. Part of the 40mil crowd. The ugly looking C-130 They look huge from outside, but pretty small when seen inside. ..to be continued
Sri Ramani K. 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2007 continuing.. the IL-62 with two others next to it. The one on the left is 9M-INA (private plane?) and on the right is a piper cherokee with a rego ZK-DIQ. i got the big belly too, Wilson! It should be a pilatus PC-7. Her brother/sister - M50-19 did a solo airshow which i thought was faboulous! Head on with the DCA owned Calibrator IV This gave me a feeling that she must be a special bird. The BIG socata. The Sukhoi. Her boobs, upps, engines. Canopies were open, but i was hoping to hop on the cockpit. But.... The F-5 on the right and the Hawk on the left. Great line up shots. Notice the pilots are all in their respective seats and engines were being started up. The C-130's lining up for takeoff. They took off very early and headed off elsewhere and only came back after about an hour or so for the final closing airshow.. pics from the red arrows follows shortly.. Sri Ramani K. 0 Report post Posted December 9, 2007 Here are a few shots that were caught on my lense. Forgive me if they're of bad quality, can't ask much from a simple P&S. Another thing to note is that i don't quite know the names of the formation except for a few but i think the narrator when the red arrows were performing was stunningly good. He talked a lot and gave detailed insight of each maneuver but we were far off the speakers and hardly heard anything. Here's my take with little commentary. I tried a 16 shot function on my camera but the last 4 was of no good. I was stunned when they did this. From afar, they looked like they were going to collide. Great skills! and my BEST pic of the day has to be this. That's all the pics that made it through the QC after going through almost 290 shots. Had trouble getting a flight back at first, but ended up going back on AK 6301 with the other MW member who was with uncle Chaity. It was a great day, and definitely, like Wilson, i'll be back for LIMA 09 with a DSLR. Enjoy guys!

iwan 3 Report post Posted December 11, 2007 (edited) okay..cant wait for tonight.. :P3sorry for the grainy pics due to kurang skill and not so good cam.. 1st DECEMBER my first sight of the islands of langkawi from my firefly flight.. the old and new.. and when i turned around..i was greeted by a sight that got my heart jumping..wanted to go nearer but a guard kacau.."sana tak boleh masuk lagy!" more to come! LANGKAWI..CAUGHT BY SURPRISE 4th DECEMBER one quite morning on the islands of langkawi..what usually was a peaceful island turned into a warzone when suddenly.. four BAE Hawks launched a surprise assault on LGK... Folks of langkawi, still shocked by the surprise attack came out of their houses only to be greeted by the sounds oif the mighty C-130 flying overhead.. opening the rear doors... and dropping what looked like supplies... out of nowhere..another C-130 hercules landed on the runways of LGK as the spectators watched in awe.. a few hundred soldiers exited the C-130 and were guided by flares ignited by commandos from the squad para already on the ground.. suddenly, the troops found themselves under heavy fire from hostiles..unable to advance, they called for backup! to be continued.. iwan 3 Report post Posted December 11, 2007 (edited) LANGKAWI..CAUGHT BY SURPRISE(continued) 4th DECEMBER responding to the backup call, finally an agusta A109(?) appeared from behind the hills with the roars of the RMAFs F/A-18D in the background.. the A109 bombed the hostiles exact location and got a direct hit as the infantries ducked for cover!! (note the brave people of langkawi who didnt budge even with bombs exploding around them) eager to finish the job,two F/A-18 hornets dropped more bombs to wipe out any remaining hostiles who survived the first wave! after a minute of silence,it was apparent that the coast was clear for the infantries to retreat..turned out that the F/A-18Ds finished the job the infantries were sent to do.. tired and shocked from the surprise heavy gunfire..the first few soldiers appears from the beaconed area.. more followed..dissapointment was apparent on the faces of these brave soldiers who didnt see any action..and smokes from the flares nearly choked the poor cameraman... the lucky ones managed to hitch a ride on the nuris.. while the rest braced for a long journey home..nampaknye..soldier pun semput bau flare... the F/A-18Ds who stole the show from the soldiers went for a last refuel with the C-130 tanker before heading home to face the wrath of the tentera darat..the smokes from the flares still apparent even after a long period.. despite the heavy gunfires and bombing,no casualties were reported except for this wounded civilian who still looked like he is having a lot of fun..~~ ......writers block..... erm...and after confirming that the coast was clear, pak lah was more then happy to catch the first flight out for a very important meeting in KL..
