AirAsia seeks over RM400m in counter-claim against MAHB

I am not sure which kind of local authority KK Lee is referring too. If local councils, then that would be tremendously challenging or even outright impossible! Even these councils barely manage to keep our streets satisfactorily clean. As someone who liaise with local councils from time to time, my understanding is that their general scope of work is just to keep their towns and districts clean (collect rubbish, etc.) and maintain basic public amenities like community halls and sports facilities. They generally have no in-depth knowledge about long term land use and economic planning (even one technician I talked to does not apply GIS in their work, despite GIS being very essential mapping skills for decision-making nowadays across many fields of work) . The most they could get is beautifying towns and appeal for budgets from state or even federal agencies. In short, our local authorities are just not capable of managing complicated and highly regulated facilities like airfields.

 

Unless...

 

Sabah and Sarawak get their 20% oil royalties from Federal lor...

It doesn't take a lot of resources to operate a rural airport. Federal gomen could give grant to local authority.

 

Believe if glc or plc e.g mas, mahb needs to bare "national duty", the management would operate like a gomen department, and expect gomen bail out for poor results.

 

Historically, federal government concentrate power and resources for political control. Believe it is about time to delegate more power and resources to locals.

Outstanding passenger service charges: Appellate court dismisses appeals by AirAsia, AirAsia X

PUTRAJAYA, March 3 ― The Court of Appeal here today dismissed AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd (AAX) appeals to set aside a High Court’s decision to grant summary judgment to Malaysia Airports (Sepang) Sdn Bhd (MASSB) relating to the payment of outstanding passenger service charges (PSC).

Following this decision, the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s decision which ordered AirAsia and AirAsia X to pay RM40.73 million in PSC and RM792,381 in unpaid late payment charges (LPC) to MASSB, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airport Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is, therefore, upheld.

The court also dismissed three appeals by AirAsia against the High Court’s refusal to allow the low cost carrier’s application to strike out the lawsuit filed against them by MASSB.

Justice Azizah ordered AirAsia to pay costs of RM10,000 for each appeal, totalling RM60,000.

Finally the saga has come to an end. Not sure how Capital A gonna pay the bills.

Really end of road ?

I would have thought there is still the Federal court, then appeal to Agong, to come ? Seeing how long and how far this has dragged on already, might as well let the drama run its full course ?

No doubt the lawyers will be rubbing hands in glee, their invoices adding up ...... ?

Capital A seeks to appeal to Fed Court against dismissals of its bids to strike out MAHB's PSC suit

KUALA LUMPUR (April 6): Capital A Bhd (formerly known as AirAsia Group Bhd) has filed motions for leave to appeal to the Federal Court against the dismissal of its bids to strike out a suit filed by a Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) unit over outstanding passenger service charges, as well as the summary judgment granted to the MAHB unit in the case.

Its three appeals to strike out the original suit filed by the MAHB unit — Malaysia Airports Sepang Sdn Bhd or MASSB — together with its appeals against the summary judgment the High Court granted to MASSB for a total of RM41.55 million (comprising outstanding PSCs, late payment charges and costs) against AirAsia Bhd and AirAsia X Bhd, were dismissed by the Court of Appeal on March 3.

He sure has a lot of money to sue and appeal, no money to make refund to his passengers.......go figure~~~
