I have to agree with you, and I have been experiencing this for quite a few times. And of course I chose MH though the plane is old and the seats are so ugly for some of you here... KK Lee 5 Report post Posted August 22, 2011 AirAsia is charging RM10 for counter check-in but is not willing to pay 25 sen per passenger for an aerobridge. Why is MAHB at the mercy of one operator?,” asks an industry expert.
Rob 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2011 Malaysia Airports is such a terrible pushover. How can it let AirAsia dictate terms to them? Building airports are in the interest of the people not just an individual airline.
BC Tam 2 Report post Posted August 22, 2011 If AK says it doesn't want to use aerobridges at KLIA2 and these are left out, can Malaysian drivers say we don't want toll booths on the highways and the gahmen will oblige too ?
flee 5 Report post Posted August 22, 2011 (edited) Malaysia Airports is such a terrible pushover. How can it let AirAsia dictate terms to them? Building airports are in the interest of the people not just an individual airline. I think that the big picture that MAHB are seeing is that they do not want to see KLIA become a white elephant. They have accepted that low headline fares DO ATTRACT pax to the airport and they have the numbers to back it up. Without the LCCT pax numbers, KLIA will only handle half the amount of pax it currently handles. Even if there was no LCCT and AirAsia was forced to use the MTB, the growth rate may be lower and AirAsia will not be such a strong company that it is now. The low charges help AirAsia to maintain low fixed costs and enables it to spend on its other infrastructure. In other words, it helped AirAsia to its feet while it was an infant. Now the low costs is helping AirAsia to expand quickly and reap the benefits of economies of scale. AirAsia would not be where it is today without the help of MAHB too - so this is one case where it is a win-win situation for both the airport and the airline. An even bigger picture we should look at is the strength of our home based airlines, and not just AirAsia. Our airports must be able to support our airlines well enough so that they are strong and can take on competition from other airlines throughout the world. The interests of the people are best served if our airlines are strong, make profits and pay their corporate taxes. Airlines that require a government bailout once every few years is not in the national interests as resources are wasted.
