Nik H. 3 Report post Posted August 2, 2011 Guys, I am organising a Charity Flight Event for Underprivileged Children, much in the same mould as what i have been doing before when I was with MH. When I retired, I felt that this should continue, but I did not receive sufficient favorable feedback that gives me confidence that MH can undertake to run the event, as even interest for this is low in there. As they say, if you need to do it right, do it yourself. So this is the deal; aa. I have got a B747-400 operating from TGG to KUL departing 0800 from TGG local time. The aircraft is Ex Madinah. bb. I will be able to cater for 200 children. cc. I do not have much money for this event, but will foot the bill myself if I have to. dd. A number of my Biking buddies have already agreed to donate into the pool, and for that i ma very grateful. ee. I do not anticipate any form of assistance from MAS, but will continue to hope anyway. ff. This is how it will be done; Date : 7-8 August 2011 Event : Memorable Monday, A B747 Flight From KT to KL. Organiser : AD Charters Sdn Bhd, Motorrad Malaysia. Description : AD Charters will provide a B747-400, about 200seats, buses, accomodation in TGG, food for Buka and Sahur for the guests and will also cover all Transportation and Logistic arrangements. Apart from the Guests, AD Charters will also provide a bus for the support staff and volunteers who will assist on operationalising this event. MWings members who wish to follow/assist can do so. Busses will be provided to TGG. In TGG accmodation can be arranged but you will have to bear the costs as i only have money for charity. All will then join in on the B744 to KL, at no cost to any of you. If you guys wanna lend a hand, please advise early. I need to plan, and time is very short. I need all the help I can get. This is not just a Charity Event. This is THE Charity Event. Tonight we will meet at Showru Kelana jaya. Be There to be part of this. Cheers, Capt Nik Huzlan

Azman MN 1 Report post Posted August 2, 2011 Didn't know you retired, congratulations! All the more impressed as you are carrying on with this part of your job! I can't be there physically, but would like to donate into the pool. Will you be sending out the banking details as usual?
Nik H. 3 Report post Posted August 2, 2011 Thanks all. We've had a short meeting with the BMW Motorraders and determined that the whole project will require a budget of RM32,000. RM11,000 goes to the 12 buses at both ends, and the kids expenditure for meals and accomodation is about RM17,000. We will need around RM5,000 for giveaways and 'duit raya'. There are some pledges of contribution coming in as I write this now. The contributions and expenditures will be posted so the accounts can be scrutinised. If there is a shortfall, my Charter Company will fill the gap. If we collect more than required, then the extra will be distributed amongst the Homes. Apart from the buses for the 150 children, I will also prepare one bus for the Motorraders and have reserved two seats for MWingers if anyone wants to do photo duties. You will RV the bus from KLIA, then go to TGG. Accomodation in TGG will be your own. Next morning you will fly back to KUL on the same flight the children are taking. Cheers. Nik H. 3 Report post Posted August 4, 2011 Jumbo Dream Flight 2011. AIM The Aim of the Event ; Bring Joy and Smiles of Wonderment to the Underprivileged. GENERAL Every year I organise a big Charity Event through my former Company. Thousands of Children have gone through the experience of a memorable and magical day having attended the event. Some of the children are no longer with us, their lives robbed by terminal sickness. There is nothing that can describe the feeling of seeing a less fortunate kid happy, more so if we are part of the reason why. Having retired last month, it was my hope this effort was to be carried on. Alas it seems pretty obvious to me that there is some amount of lethargy in that large corporation to get this going. While lack of creativity can be substituted by cash, it was apparent to me there is no driver for this, hence its never ever going to happen again. Rather than wallow in disappointment, I found a way to make this happen. Following consultation with various parties including friends on this page, I had sufficient confidence we can all pull this off. To make this happen several elements are required; a. Budget b. Opnl Plan c. Regulatory Approval d. Concessions e. Manpower f. Post-Project Report & Reconciliation EVENT SUMMARY We will pick up the Children from their respective homes by Tour Buses, arranged by AD Charters. We have budgeted for 5 buses, 4 for the various homes, 1 bus for the members who contributed along with family members who are following. The movement schedule will be detailed below. The departure of the B747-400 will be at 0810 for arrival KLIA at 0905. There will be another set of buses to take the children home. The B747-400 will be arranged and underwritten by AD Charters. LAST WORDS i may have missed out a few things here so please chip in as and when required. So that's it guys/gals. If i don't bite the bullet and get this going, its never going to happen. Previously, when done through MAS, I had very little support from the Management. Not even budget. I held 5 big events, the Chairman and MD only came once. Hence, when I looked back, I knew this initiative will die off, the company busy doing other things....Now, even with the heavy load of having to top up the deficit should the funds fall short, I am happier than I'd ever be as I know, this event was pushed by sincerity, motivated by passion, held together by caramaderie, done in the interest of the kids and none other. It'd be nice for this event to be done by someone else next year...... Cheers Capt Nik Huzlan aka Xr Rider

Nik H. 3 Report post Posted August 9, 2011 The 9M-MPQ aircraft was supposed to be operated by Charter Dept, and I have devised a new way of operating the Jeddah Route. Under the smart boys of MH the route has consistently lost a lot of money, and the smart ones were resting easy with just 37 - 40 % of the market. I hawked the idea of Jeddah reengineering over three management changes, but they were too smart to understand. I told them that if they do it my 'pasar malam' simpleton way, we would cut losses the first year by a significant amount. After the first year, it will move into the black. Finally mid 2010 I got the aircraft modified and used it for the Haj. Inter-Departmental greed saw some power play and the program was hijacked by even smarter people. The program is now modified, and instead of operating to Jeddah the way i planned, the aircraft is now being operated as scheduled, and MAS will bleed while keeping someone's KPI intact. For this particular flight, and a few others, my new company Chartered the flight, which is why I can put orphans on board for the return flight. MAS Corporate Comms dept is totally clueless of the opportunity to swing a positive spin for the Airline. So its nice to be able to make some money, serve the Umrah Pilgrims well, do a bit of Charity to boot, while making children happy in the process. MAS Management is as clueles as ever. Naim 6 Report post Posted August 9, 2011 (edited) ... So its nice to be able to make some money, serve the Umrah Pilgrims well, do a bit of Charity to boot, while making children happy in the process. ... You have cornered a niche market there, where barrier to entry for newcomers is quite significant. All the best! Okay, here is the sequence of pics for yesterday's memorable event ... Nik H. 3 Report post Posted August 10, 2011 Let me thank all who contributed, financially, in kind and through words of support. I knew when I retired this event would never happen again if left to the National Airline to do. It requires some thinking outside the box, creativity and networking, qualities that are quite difficult to find in MH. Besides, everyone was at that time having more important things to do, such as self-preservation with the impending changes sweeping the sick airline. Disappointed, I posted a small story about what needs to be done, with the aim of me personally underwriting about 2 buses and put the kids onto the Jumbo Jet that we hired from MAS. Incidentally, the flight was an achievement of sorts, being the first Umrah flight allowed into Madinah. Sadly, many do not understand this significant milestone in Malaysian Aviation. The post was made on the 1st of August, with not much hope of assistance and support. Within 2 hours of the post, the pledges amounted to RM3,000. 24 hours later, the fund pledges stood at RM13,000. Thrilled, I called for Teh Tarik and seriously shared on how I envisioned this event can be put in place. Duties were assigned to my biker friends, everyone falling all over themselves to lend a hand. Various names were bandied around,; Jumbo Dream Flight, Marvellous Monday, but we settled for "Kawan Awan" which sounds good in both BM and English. On Thursday night I called on a friend at LSG Skychef and he graciously presented 200 goodies bags which was promptly collected the next day. Since we were collecting money from close friends, acquaintances and strangers, we wanted to ensure we do this correctly as anything involving collection of money becomes a sensitive issue. We appointed SP Lee as the one in charge of collection and expenditure, Aras as the one to scrutinize the money received and Dato' Jet will be the one to sign off the accounts. All three only got to know each other through biking activities over the past 9 months. Planning based on contribution is always difficult, as we do not know how much we will get by the time we finalise the plans, so after another Teh Tarik session, I declared that we will commit on 6 homes, 200 children and guardians. 6 buses will be required along with 250 seats on the Jumbo Jet. The budget was set for 6 buses at both ends, 6 to ferry everyone to TGG, another 6 awaiting at KLIA to send the participants home. I got a good deal at Primula Hotel ( incindently the best in TGG bar the resorts ) arranged for sumptuous Buka and Sahur. We also budgeted for gifts, duit raya for the kids and cash gifts for the houses. The total bill came to about RM46,000. At that time the fund pledged was RM26,000. I announced that we will go ahead with the plan, and if there was a shortfall of funds, my company will plug that gap. By August 5th we had pledges amounting to RM36,480. Thankfully, within a few days, the funds increased, and till now the pledged amount stands at RM56,330. No a bad amount raised in just 6 days and through FB and word of mouth. However due to delays in cash transfer, there will be a gap between pledges and actual received amount. As of yesterday, the actual amount is rm37,231. Another 13k coming in from BMW, Club, companies and other individuals that's firm. So total actual is rm51,231. The gap between the pledge of RM56,330 and actual of RM51,231 is expected as there are always instances of pledges not made good, especially when the project is over. The Event was a great success, everything was on time, the only delay caused by the late arrival and departure of the aircraft. The kids did not mind as they had more time by the pool. That the kids enjoyed this unforgettable event is an understatement. Totally clueless just a week ago, they were in disbelief when they stepped on the beach. For some of them it was the first time seeing the sea, and to find themselves playing football by the beach is really dreamlike. This, my friends is the real One Malaysia. All the races involved, all the races together contributing, and the the races enjoying the fruits of our labor. The non-muslims joining the Muslims in breaking fast, and respecting the muslims during fasting period. Once again we thank all here who contributed, and also those who wished us well. Cheers, and till next year. Capt Nik.
