What Boeing have to do is come out with a clean slate design rather than a 737neo, and fast, or else they're going to be eaten alive by the Europeans. Wonder why they haven't made their decision yet? Boeing is not too worried currently as most of the A320 NEO orders are from existing Airbus customers. I think Boeing is being very careful about committing resources as their B747-8/B787 programmes have cost them dearly. However, Boeing seriously needs to make a decision soon as it cannot expect loyal Boeing customers to defer their aircraft orders indefinitely. Not every airline is like MH.
