Gun fire at BKI ???

Recommended Posts

Just listening to the HF box and Singapore working MAS2662, AXM5182, RBA874 giving them all re-routing after OLKIT via M759 G580 due to gun fire at Kinabalu?!

Sounds serious.

wow... gun fire at the airport !! ??

there wasn't much good news in the e-papers as well.. many jumps off buildings, thrown out, brutally battered , etc.. wow ! what's going on in Msia?

Surface to air gun firing usually means gun firing drills carried out by Armed Forces. Nothing very serious actually if thats the same thing happening in this case.

...but then the armies could just do that anytime any day? Without advising the airlines especially about the exercise? Its pretty serious nevertheless. Who's gonna pay for the rerouting and answers to the passengers who could have missed a connecting flights or an important meeting?

sigh..

Direct flight OLKIT-VJN will bring you over a danger area not sure of the designation, which could means military activity ("gun firing") by the Brunei Armed Forces. If the danger area is active (as per NOTAM) then flights will be routed via OLKIT-BRU-VJN. The extra distance and time is almost negligible.

NOTAM Available from WBFC Airspace: Applicable to an area approximately the same location as WB®-517 CORRIDOR. Highlighted portions aapply to what RobK mentioned in his original post for the thread. Nothing exciting here it looks like, just navy firing exercises.
