Singapore Airlines Cargo pleads guilty in price fixing scheme

Recommended Posts

Singapore Airlines Cargo is admitting that it conspired to fix prices for international shipments and agreed to pay a $48 million criminal fine.

The Justice Department announced Tuesday that the airline had agreed to plead guilty for its role in a price fixing scheme from 2002 through 2006.

According to the charging document, the airline agreed with competitors to set rates on cargo shipments to and from the United States.

The airline, a subsidiary spun off of parent company Singapore Airlines in 2001, has agreed to cooperate with an ongoing antitrust investigation.

So far, 20 airlines and 17 industry executives have been charged. The defendants have paid $1.7 billion in criminal fines. Four executives have been sentenced to prison, while charges are pending against the others.
