More trainee pilots now

Recommended Posts

A TOTAL of 1,513 trainee pilots were produced from the seven flying academies in the country, the house was told yesterday.

The academies are the Malaysian Flying Academy Sdn Bhd, Malacca; HM Aerospace Sdn Bhd, Langkawi; Integrated Training & Services Sdn Bhd, Ipoh; Asia Pacific Flight Training Sdn Bhd, Kota Baru; Gulf Golden International Flying Academy Sdn Bhd, Bintulu; KL International Flying Academy Sdn Bhd, Johor Baru; and Austral Academy Sdn Bhd, Sandakan.

How many would eventually land a pilot job here in Malaysia given the sizeable pool of candidates in the market? And how marketable are these trainee pilots to foreign airlines?

I doubt any established foreign airlines are going to take freshly-trained, frozen-ATPL holding cadets into their workforce....especially since there's already an enormous pool of well-qualified pilots worldwide.

Eventually Malaysia will become like other countries whereby fresh grad has to fly general aviation first before landing a job with airlines.

Well, good for them that they've come this far in their careers. But too bad they graduated at the wrong time...

There are a significant amount of pilots from Europe , that have gone so far as to pay for their own training , and even the Airbus A320 type rating , and end up not having a job for a good 2 years or so , flying Cessna Caravan's instead , and come rushing to KL to get a job with AirAsia

You mean matsalleh? I flew AK a great deal and never came across a matsalleh name. But Indonesian-sounding, got.

These pilots may be absorbed in the future, but it is the hope and aspiration of the private candidates whom make up a proportion of the quoted figures to be selected by MAS, AirAsia or Perhaps even SIA. However, in the case of SIA, they will redo a certain amount of their CPL training to climatise them to local operations, more often being retrained.
