  1. Which airline doesn't want to serve as many feasible destinations as possible? Well, ask yourself why. If the domestic market were large and high-yield enough it wouldn't need to be subsidised. When was the last time you paid hundreds of dollars on a domestic ticket in Malaysia? Not sure I understand your argument. SQ maintains F to CGK because of the number of wealthy business travellers who commute to and from SIN. There's just a lot more O&D traffic between Singapore and Jakarta (enough for SQ to sustain 8 daily widebody flights), and connecting traffic is only part of the story. If there aren't as many people who need to travel between Jakarta and KL, I'm not sure how this is a loss for MH.
  2. You've complained about KLIA being crappy and you're opposed to more retail options at the airport. Now you're complaining because the government needs to raise money somehow. Funny.
  3. I'm confused. I thought some people pointed out that MH should get real about not being in the same league as SQ/JL/EK. In any case, codesharing isn't going to turn MH's fortunes around. Tagging your code onto another airline's flight isn't going to make passengers appear magically. The fear (and hype) surrounding codesharing are overblown IMO. It's not like SQ suddenly has access to a vast untapped Malaysian market. Like EK? I must commend this beggar for hooking up with the most glamarous of partners (EK, SQ, JL).
  4. MH suffering loses? This rumours mill continues to surprise!
  5. Really? Is it that easy to make money? I should apply for the CEO position tomorrow. I'll make it the greatest airline turnaround story of the century. I got some nice Toblerone bars on BA. Made in Switzerland I think. Very yummy.
  6. How much does a side salad cost? While we're at it, how much does a small tub of Häagen-Dazs cost? Heck, I think it's quite stingy of MH not to give out cheap things like soup and caviar. And don't tell me that little praline that you get in F and J at the end of a meal costs more than a few cents. These little things can't possibly cost much, right?
  7. Guess we'll have to wait for the next article to become experts on the Max 10!
  8. But the TK seat does not have much storage space within easy reach, neither does it offer any single seats by the window. Want your laptop out during meal service? Good luck with the balancing act. Pick the right seats on MH and you get a nice combination of footwell space, privacy, window views, direct aisle access and storage space. I can think of worse places to be in the sky.
  9. Oh dear. Some people resent 738s on 3-4 hour flights. What will they make of an 8-9 hour flight on a flying machine with only one aisle?
  10. I, for one, would appreciate the flexibility to have my murtabak 30 mins before landing!
  11. The marginal costs will not be an issue if people are willing to pay for it. Clearly, not enough people are. And before someone points out they prefer TG because they offer 34 inch pitch, glorious widebodies and piping hot meals at a low price - look at their financial performance. You are effectively being subsidised by the Thai taxpayer.
  12. Maybe because QF was not selling RM69 domestic tickets and J tickets at PEY prices.
  13. As a regular traveller I'm sure you can tell the difference between a lucrative and a not so lucrative route. Yes, I'm glad MH is upping its game on this premium route. Sleep is very important to business travellers, especially on a flight as long as KUL-SIN.
  14. Excellent! I can finally get some decent rest on SIN-KUL flights.
  15. I get flagged maybe 1/10 times with checked bags. Walking out with boxes on your cart is a sure-fire way to get scanned, though.
  16. I can't help but wonder if the layout of KUL T1 makes this prohibitively expensive, since they have scanners at every gate rather than a few in a centralised checkpoint.
  17. You're free to pay SQ prices but you can only be so sure. 9V-STU was AOG in KUL yesterday. I'm sure a lot of people paid good money to be on that cancelled flight. So much for certainty.
  18. If we're going to truly emulate the Japanese and Singapoeans, this country will have to undergo some fundamental changes in the way it's run. And we all know how some Malaysians feel about change. Right. I forgot LH is the one and only way for Germans to get around. I'm not a Malay but a Malaysian and I'd be happy to pay that RM32 for my share of goodies. What use is a monopoly if you can't afford to fly? Not sure what you're trying to argue here. On one hand you think competition is bad but on the other you bemoan the EUR500 tickets on a ~500km journey.
  19. It's even more interesting how some of these countries don't even reciprocate.... (not that I have any intention of visiting Libya, but if we're giving them visa-free access the least they can do is bolster our passport's visa-free index score )
  20. Competition is great for consumers, no? Or do you prefer the good old days of RM800 tickets to East Malaysia?
  21. What would be your plan for a sustainable airline business model?
  22. The MY-US market is not huge to begin with. Out of HND, the only North American destinations served by JL are JFK and SFO, and they leave at different times of the day (~10am and ~7-8pm respectively). It is a lot easier to funnel passengers through NRT where most US flights depart and arrive in the late afternoon/evening, which is what NH has been doing with NH815/816.
  23. JL quality at MH prices would be nice
  24. MAS and SIA should merge, says analyst I can't decide which is worse: The author's use of Wikipedia as a source, or the photo caption which can't differentiate between KLIA and Changi. https://www.thestar.com.my/business/business-news/2019/05/10/mas-and-sia-should-merge-says-analyst/
