  1. Why red? Something to do with Hu's USD45bil shopping list in America last month (at least 45 planes order for Boeing)? GEnx engine. More passenger seating and redesigned interiors. The tranquil lighting of the new jet gives a space age sheen to air travel. The 747-8 Intercontinental's cabin, featuring larger windows and new lighting, are displayed in a mock up of a berth on the plane's upper deck. More pics from G.Werner, Airlinereporter.com
  2. The light aircraft carrying 12 people had made the 250-mile journey from George Best Belfast Airport to Cork before it crashed A Manx2 Metroliner SW4 light aircraft similar to the one that crashed in poor visibility on the runway
  3. What no CI? This is ex-CI FA who quit to become JAV actress...cropped pic to be SFW.
  4. JAL's ad...the style is like J-Drama/J movie. Theme song is "I'll be there for you" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWN7ucX7Ufw
  5. This is from VS' 2011 ad...more like 007 film opening than airline commercial. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QpLZi1m_aw
  6. First video secs after the blast...Warning: Footage of bodies on floor near the end of video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdA9rk_pXQk
  7. With the state of JAL now...I think they need more than good fengshui to save itself. The new logo announcement came exactly on the 1st anniversary from the day it announced bankruptcy protective status. Compared to ANA, why JAL failed so miserably...
  8. One wonders why JAL wants to re-design its logo and spend money on those campaigns, when it is facing much more serious troubles. Since end 2008/09 JAL has laid-off thousands of employees in japan and overseas (including F/As, ground staff, admin) and re-classifed some of employees as part-timers (less benefits) to reduce its financial burden. And this trend is still continuing as japanese economy slowdown is not recovering as fast as its neighbors since 2008 financial crisis.
  9. Japanese belief that tsuru birds symbolise gracefullness, hope. Not many people know this...but tsuru cranes have 3 colors, red/black/golden brown on head and generally white body with some black at wing tips. New design should feature a combination of these colors. Nice design from http://aero-design.blogspot.com/2008/12/jal-japan-airlines-b777-200.html
  10. Jap news indicate the new mark is from April onwards.
  11. Great quote from a reporter: "The most important trips aren't about getting somewhere. They're about getting to someone." http://newsfeed.time.com/2011/01/13/pilot-who-cares-the-most-heartwarming-airline-story-of-2011/

  15. The ferris wheel should be that one in Odaiba area, which is opposite HND. It changes color every minute and can be seen from Rainbow bridge, HND, Tokyo Tower and Tokyo's ring road leading to Tokyo Bay area.
  16. The Airbus presentation to accident investigators of the damage done to QF32 on November 4 gives new technical insights into this near disaster involving a Qantas A380 with 466 persons on board. The examination of the damage is far from complete, as the presentation makes clear.
  17. QF A380's high-powered take-off - at 72,000lbs thrust, higher than other operators but still within Trent 990 max.75,000lbs - may be the problem? One would wonder why RR never discovered this during testing?!! http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/aviation/a380-take-off-may-be-the-problem/story-e6frg95x-1225949668495

  19. The European Aviation Safety Agency issued an emergency airworthiness directive for all RR Trent 900 series engines used on Airbus A380s saying a deep seated oil fire is the suspected cause of the engine disintegration that imperilled QF32 on 11/4.
  20. 'Unbelievable concealment': The plane passenger boarded with a silicone face and neck mask that gave him the appearance of an old man. He agreed to put the disguise on to be photographed after being picked up on arrival in Canada.
  21. Previous incident in Sept involved RR RB211 engines of QF 747 in SFO, which was reported as "uncontained engine failure" as it "reached 30,000ft about 45mins after takeoff" http://www.smh.com.au/travel/qantas-engine-explosion-followed-safety-warning-20100901-14nnn.html
