Another angle of MK Airlines B742F G-MKBA arriving from Cairns I was especially pleased with this shot as it was my first photo of a JQ A321. The airspace closure for the NDP rehearsals meant that flights scheduled to arrive between 1900-1930 either have to arrive before or after the closure timing. This provided an opportunity to capture the extremely elusive EY A332 in beautiful golden evening light. EY A332s only operate during the summer schedule to SIN, and the scheduled arrival timing is 1hr later as compared to the winter schedule. RNZAF B752 departing as NSB547 back to Cairns this morning. This time around, it has no choice but to depart from the correct runway! VP-BID with basic Nippon Cargo Airlines colours making a steep climbout as ABW101 on a test flight. The Germans sure know how to demonstrate the performance of a lightly loaded and ridiculously overpowered twin! In fact, where better to demonstrate that other than in front of other ultra long haul counterparts from SQ (which probably can't pull off such a feat just as easily?) Air China quickly followed with a very colourful B738 featuring a stylised Phoenix livery. Cardig Air PK-BBA 'Motivation' B733F is similarly motivated to perform a quick rotation!

It was really hard to believe how gorgeous the evening light was today considering there was an islandwide thunderstorm in the morning. Positive thinking does have its uses B-KPF looking very smart as the evening CX735 flight from HKG. Garuda Indonesia had recently changed the equipment for their evening Bali flight from the usual B734 to a B738. Thus, one would be able to get these wingletted beauties in great evening light.

Sneeze's ride back home today B-KPF arrived as CX713 and departed back as CX716 to Hong Kong. Perhaps CX knew Sneeze was going to be onboard this flight today and made a last minute switch from the usual B773 (non ER) hehe.

The Canon 75-300mm lens (nicknamed Mickey Mouse by some of us hehe) can deliver very good pictures but is slightly tricky to use as it requires some panning for the focus to 'lock on' for moving subjects. For me, a combination of the following settings works quite well for me: ISO200, Av mode, f/6.3 - 8 (depending on your preference). Setting the focus point to use only the centre point might help (it does in my case) as it prevents the camera from choosing any one of the focus points to use. Using ISO100 can be slightly difficult to get the aircraft sharp, especially at max zoom and the aircraft only occupies a small part of the photo. Perhaps can photographing try from a closer spot? Hope it helps =)

Something RED came to town today British Airways OneWorld G-CIVC as BA11 with red nose to commemorate Red Nose Day. The Red Nose Day sticker near the nose is only applied on the port side of the aircraft.

It is really a pity to see the European carriers leaving Singapore one after another over the past years! Much of these carriers had all chosen to terminate their service in Bangkok. These carriers included AZ, AY(MD11!!!!), SK, TK (which now flies SIN-IST direct) and SU. In fact, one can now count the number of European passenger carriers left in SIN with one hand - AF, BA, KL, LH and TK (since Turkey is half Europe). With the pull-out of LX, the only full service carriers left serving SIN-BKK are SQ, TG and CX. I'm not sure if AI/IC even flies SIN-BKK now and if it is even open for booking if it does. Biman Bangladesh had also replaced their DC10 service via BKK with a direct vampire flight using a leased B738 last November. This used to be a far cry from the days when passengers were simply spoilt for choice on this sector. LX is currently one of the cheapest way to fly between SIN and BKK, as tour agencies and credit card companies here often bundle them together with accommodation for a very good price even during the peak holiday periods. I heard from my parents who had flown this sector that it was totally full! Thus I believe that LX will really be sorely missed when it stops flying here from end-April. I think the SIN-BKK sector would probably be replaced by another Star Alliance codeshare with the evening Thai Airways flight TG409/410, just like what SK did when they pulled out of Singapore.

Due to the ongoing renovation works at Terminal 1, gates C11 and D30 are closed. In addition, Gates C13 and D32 (where the China Postal was parked) are used as remote stands instead for aircraft parking but not to embark and disembark passengers. It was really a huge stroke of luck that the China Postal was parked at D32 as the 2 gates are usually used for parking day and nightstoppers like KLM and Jetstar International.

Lucky shot with the Omega tanker rotation! The rain was unbelievably long and sustained yesterday. China Postal Airlines B734 did a 'transformation' after arriving as VT-JAR on Sunday and is re-registered as N651AC. I also wonder what's up with the huge titles advertising its MSN number at the rear of the fuselage

Air Niugini is perhaps the hardest to photograph scheduled passenger airline at Changi. This is because it only operates twice a week on Monday and Thursday, and arrives at 1940hrs in the evening and departs back to Port Moresby an hour later. Seen here is P2-ANA B767-300ER which arrived yesterday afternoon as PX392D after a rare 19hr delay. A pity the sun was quite shy when she arrived. Cute Fokker 28 Friendship from KL-Subang. It was also my first time photographing her The silver bullet livery would be sorely missed as CX will repaint them into the standard livery in the near future. B-HKH was formerly 9V-SMH. The dark storm clouds and bright afternoon sun produced some very interesting shots with high contrast. Cheers!

I agree about the point where distance is relative. Seletar is actually quite close to many residential estates in the north and northeastern part of Singapore. For example, I live about 5km from Seletar airport and would only take 30mins by public transport to the airport, and about the same time if I choose to cycle. This is as compared to a minimum of 1hr by bus to Changi Airport. A few years ago (before the Budget Terminal was born), the Singapore government actually had a serious study to examine the feasibility of allowing budget carriers to operate from Seletar. It was reported in the papers that the main problem was not the inaccessibility of the airport, but rather the short runway length which may pose some safety concerns for a fully loaded B737/A320. Currently, the runway at Seletar airport is undergoing extension works as part of the project to develop the Seletar Aerospace Park. The road network in the vicinity has been realigned and is quite messy at the moment, so I don't really think that approval might be give to operate from XSP in the very near future should FY decide to come. However, it might be a different situation once the works are completed. For example, some of the single lane roads had already been widened to dual lane carriageways to cope with the increased traffic.

SBS Transit operates service 103M from Serangoon Interchange to Seletar West Camp and calls at the bus stop just outside the terminal building daily. The frequency is a bit cranky but the schedules are published online at www.sbstransit.com.sg and estimated arrival time plates are also bolted onto the bus stop poles along the route. In general the timings are mainly during the morning and evening peak periods, as well as lunch time (when the 2 Berjaya Air flights arrive and depart). Thus, if FY were to start services to XSP for real, I'm sure SBST would increase the number of trips to XSP based on the arrival timings of these flights. However, I'm definitely welcome to the idea of Firefly operating direct out of Seletar....its pretty much comatose for much of the day except for the YFC and SFC training flights so I doubt terminal capacity would be that much of an issue - yet.

A somewhat elusive subject to catch at Changi as she only operates once a week. It is fortunate that she was delayed a fair bit today and was allocated a gate in the central apron.
