  1. MAS orders A333X, Flight Intl: http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/12/22/336479/mas-orders-15-a330s.html MAS on B787: http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/12/17/336294/mas-has-no-plans-to-acquire-787.html
  2. I think it could be the huge discount given by Airbus due to the delay in MAS's A380 delivery. An offer probably MAS could not refuse. Is MAS going to phase out their old A333 & A332 back to lessor? Looks like Malaysia is dominated by Airbus now... Honestly, I was waiting expecting it to be either A350 or B787. But A333X, well nice plane but dated. Also, MAS mentioned these 25 A333X is for medium haul market while A380 for long haul ie; Sydney (yay for me)... So does this mean no long haul order for B744s replacement? Would look to see MAS mixture orders of B772LR & B777ER.
  3. Any pics in the net of AirAsia X first flight to Abu Dhabi, India etc... Or delivery of new aircraft/cerfemony etc? Seems there is lack of pics for this airlines when comes this..
  4. Maybe AirAsia X can pick up those Cathay's A340s...cheaply
  5. http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/11/16/334980/dubai-09-ethiopian-reaffirms-787-outlines-plans-for.html
  6. How many times a week EgyptAir flies to KUL?
  7. Obtained from Flight Int'l... http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/10/23/333903/maskargo-seeking-leases-on-widebody-freighters.html Also, found from Flight Int'l that MASKargo joint venture with Hainan Airlines... http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/10/23/333918/maskargo-forms-alliance-with-hainan-airlines-group.html On the earlier note, if MAS would to consider B747-200F in their search, why not just renew their contract. A330F or B747-400F would make more sense. Also, what happen to the sole A300F?
  8. Plenty of 744Fs for leased, many parked at Victorville. OR leased all 3 of Transmile MD11s.
  9. Is Lion Air not collecting their B744s?
  10. MAS sticks to its order for six A380s Airline expects A380s to be delivered in 2011 PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is not replacing its order of six Airbus A380 super jumbo aircraft for smaller wide-body aircraft, said chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Tengku Azmil Zahruddin. A recent report in a local daily (not The Star) said MAS was considering swapping the A380 orders for smaller wide-body aircraft such as the A330 or A350 due to the decline in air traffic amid a prolonged world economic recovery. “Although the deliveries of the A380s are delayed, where MAS should have received all six planes by now, we believe there will not be any more slippage. “We now expect the A380s to be delivered in 2011,” Tengku Azmil said after a signing ceremony with CFM International for CFM engines to be used in the airline’s Boeing 737-800 (B737) fleet. On the industry outlook, Tengku Azmil said the general business environment would continue to be challenging for the rest of this year and next year. “But we hope to see recovery in the second half of 2010. For now, recovery is not apparent on the passenger side but cargo is showing some improvement although conclusive data still need to be gathered,” he said. Under the agreement with CFM International, CFM will provide full support for the engines, which includes technical training, engineering and repair services as well as the provision of spare parts. CFM International is a joint-venture company between General Electric Co and Snecma from SAFRAN Group. Tengku Azmil said MAS had placed 35 firm orders and 20 optional orders for the B737 aircraft last year and expected the deliveries to commence in the fourth quarter of next year. “We may also exercise some of the 20 optional orders in accordance with our fleet growth plan. The B737 will be used primarily for the Asean region, Australia, China, India and domestic operations,” he said. Well, looks like MAS will be getting the A380 after all, still reckons they should consider B773ER to compliment the exisiting 17 B772ER and phase out the B744s gradually. And order new A332/A333 with built in PTVs to replace ageing fleets of A332/A333. Oh well, just have to wait for their long haul announcement. Any idea when will that be? B738 to Australia, my guess or like many others would be Perth (for sure) and Adelaide. Maybe they should consider Tasmania too?
  11. Slightly off but thought use the same topic. Believe AirAsia X is sourcing for more A340-300s and here is probably a good lease deal considering it is average 12-15 years old! http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/2009/09/01/331725/gulf-air-puts-a340-fleet-on-the-market.html
  12. Hi, I took a day off today and went plane spotting at Kingsford Smith, Sydney. I was there by 6am to capture all overseas visitors and am lucky to snap 3 Qantas A380s, a SIA A380 and an Emirates A380. But what's missing is MAS B747. Did not see it at all, left at 11am and still no sight of it. Any idea what happened, is it due to Idris Jala sudden departure lol. OR is the B747 too big I can't see it
  13. What happened to the 2 B744s Lion Air leased from Oasis HK? Are these aircrafts still in KLIA or delivered?
  14. New service with A332. Commencing 16 September 2009, Malaysia Airlines is pleased to announce the new scheduled flights ex Melbourne with direct services to Jakarta. These flights allow stopovers in both Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta and all passengers are required to take note of Visa requirements for Indonesia.
  15. SV Choong, the point made by Ryan Soh is spot on as Tony himself mentioned this before. Hence AirAsia X would be succesful. How are you by the way, still in Melbourne. As for Malaysia trying to achieve the Vision 2020, with decision like this perhaps it should be Vision 2090. And recent issue on subjects whether to be taught in English or Bahasa, back and forth..it basically simple decision yet it goes on forever. By spending so much time on crap like this, don't Malaysia is ready for Vision 2020. Anyway, back on track as long as both parties (AirAsia & MAS) play fair in terms of fair competition, it's healthy for the airlines as well as the country. Both are Malaysian companies which all Malaysians shold be proud of. Can you imagine if AirAsia X flies to Sydney, how much revenue it will bring with it to the country in terms of tourism etc... To all readers: I may know some of you while others I don't hence let me be upfront on threads I posted. I was born in Malaysia and loved the country as this is where my roots started. I like both MAS and AirAsia/X as it's both Malaysia companies and both have done Malaysia very proud in terms of service, one of only 6 airlines with 5 stars, largest low cost airlines etc... Obviously there are others that dislikes both airlines which is not uncommon, as some dislikes prestige airlines like SIA too. I am terrible at expressing things but what I am saying is that it frustrates me big time and being a Malaysian living abroad, I like to be able to promote these two airlines to friends both in Sydney, Australia and New York, USA where these two cities are my country of residence now. AirAsia X has officially submitted application to fly to New York, so I like to do my part in promoting this as I don't mind as my hobby is aviation, obviously. I have done similar promotion to friends in Australia and so far, few have tried using AirAsia X flying out from either Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth. Well, some says I don't get paid by AirAsia for this 'free' advertisement for this airline, why promotes so much? Well, why not. Maybe AirAsia X can offer me a job here in Australia. End of the day, what I am really trying to say is that please don't feel upset/angry or think that I am bias or anything. Don't get my message the wrong way, thanks all.
  16. Giving MAS more time to prepare for competition? A star airline should be prepared by now. What IF Qantas/Jetstar decided to fly to KLIA within a month, do the Government says, Hang on you can't start within a month as MAS is not ready!! Seriously, if AirAsia X is an Australian airline brand or even in Spore or HK, it would be damn bloody succesful.
  17. QUOTE Long-haul budget airline AirAsia X has been denied permission to fly to Sydney and Seoul due to a row between the Malaysian government and its sister carrier AirAsia, a news report said. The refusal has forced AirAsia X to scramble to make new plans to utilise the three new Airbus A330 aircraft due for delivery this year, the Star daily said today. "We had asked for rights to fly to Sydney and Seoul, and the government decided to defer granting us the approval," AirAsia X's chief executive officer Azran Osman-Rani reportedly said. He said the government first wanted AirAsia to settle the issue of an outstanding 65 million ringgit ($A22.45 million) payment for airport services with Malaysia Airports Holdings before giving the green light. "The dispute is between the two (AirAsia and MAHB), but delaying us from flying into these two destinations will not help travellers who have limited choices," Azran told the daily. "We know the Koreans are keen to have us, and both the airports - Sydney and Seoul - welcome us," he added. AirAsia was not immediately available to confirm the reported comments. An affiliate of regional low-cost carrier AirAsia and Virgin Group, AirAsia X was launched in January 2007. AirAsia and AirAsia X have common shareholders, including AirAsia founder and CEO Tony Fernandes. AirAsia X currently flies to three Australian destinations - the Gold Coast, Melbourne and Perth. UNQUOTE . What the CEO said is very true, about MAHB is trying to woo back Qantas & Jetstar back to KLIA although chances is very slim in current economic while AirAsia X wants to fly to Sydney, they being stopped from doing so becoz of conflicts between AirAsia and MAHB. What a shallow decision. Also on another mail article which published yesterday by The Star, it also mentioned AirAsia X started the process but not officially submitted request for flights to USA eyeing mainly on New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Why don't they include Las Vegas & Hawaii as well, am sure there is market for these sectors, or maybe not. What about Canada? Speaking of which, why don't MAS relaunch flight to Canada? While the CEO mentioned in Feb, countries such as France, Germany, Italy & New Zealand, anyone knows of any progress of these sectors. Have they started the process applications? They would need at least 5 A340-300s for these routes as said by the CEO however I would reckon they would need more than just 5. Since Air Canada's CEO Robert Milton has shares in AirAsia X, he should just lease all Air Canada's A340s to AirAsia X, hehe.. Anyway, sorry for the long thread, aprpeciate any opinion or status updates to the above if anyone knows. Lastly, I am hoping very much they will be granted rights to fly to Sydney as soon as possible as then, I can afford to fly home to see my parents more often
  18. anyone seen the Oakland aircraft lately, not many pics on the web? Very low profiles? Also, is the MASKargo A300 aircraft still around?
  19. I am no expert in this however wouldn't it be better in current economic for MAS to use B744 or B744BCF as oppose to gas guzzling B742. I know these are leased aircraft but couln't MAS request for newer fuel efficient aircrafts? They would save heaps on fuel cost I would think. I know they currently own 2 B744s cargo aircrafts and since China Airlines have stored some of its B744s cargo planes, might as well lease it. Am sure China Airlines would offer good lease deal as oppose to let the aircraft sit in the dessert. Also, what happen to the sole MASKarga A300? Hardly seen any pictures of it or has it been returned to lessor?
  20. Don't think the painting is complete, yet to see the final version. Also, do anyone here reckon the 2 leased A340-300s from Air Canada is becoz Tony got special treatment from Air Canada CEO, Robert Milton. Was told Robert have shares in AirAsia X, from a venture called Aero something!!! which has 48% stake in AirAsia X.
  21. Maybe Air Asia X can buy it opff cheap cheap...
  22. Why can't AirAsia paint the A340 like their A333, look so much better and more striking! Only things I like in the A340 paint job is the Union Flag and Jalur Gamilang... WITH THE COMBINATION OF THESE TWO FLAGS - VIRGIN AIRASIA
  23. Surprise to find this in Sydney's top newspaper - Sydney Morning Herald (SMH). http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-featur...qs.html?page=-1
  24. Should MAS paint one of it's new B738 with retro style, shld look nice and first in Asia. Or maybe perhaps a B744 or 772ER Should MAS paint one of it's new B738 with retro style, shld look nice and first in Asia. Or maybe perhaps a B744 or 772ER
