  1. NAHA — A Peach Airlines airbus mistakenly descended to 75 meters above the water on its approach to Naha airport in Okinawa, airline and transport ministry officials said Tuesday. Flight 252, carrying 59 passengers and crew, had left Ishigaki and was due to land at Naha at around noon on Monday, Fuji TV reported. According to aviation officials, aircraft usually begin their descent into Naha from a point about five kilometers away. However, the Peach Airbus A320-200 began its descent 10 kilometers away and was only 75 meters above the water and still 7 kilometers from the airport before the pilot could regain control. Nobody on the plane was injured, airline officials said. A Peach spokesperson told media that the pilot, who is from Argentina, misunderstood air traffic control instructions. Peach said the pilot has been suspended, pending an investigation, Fuji reported. Aviation officials said planes have a ground proximity warning system that sounds an alarm if an aircraft is too close to the ground, water or a mountain.   3. I believe it's more of a Korean culture. Captain decides, and the FO just merely comply with no questions asked.
  4. I think it's rather unwise of the crew to continue the flight knowing that there's nothing but clear blue ocean after Japan with one engine INOP.

South Korean regulators are investigating Asiana Airlines following a 19 April incident in which the crew of a Boeing 767-300 aircraft did not divert after they observed a warning with the aircraft’s port-side engine. One hour into a Seoul Incheon-Saipan flight, the crew observed a warning light relating to one of the aircraft’s two General Electric CF6 engines, says a statement from South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. The crew reduced the engine’s power, but the warning light remained on. Rather than divert to an airport in Japan, the crew elected to fly on, eventually landing in Saipan four hours later on a single engine. Maintenance personnel in Saipan later discovered “metal particles” – apparently caused by abrasion – blocking an engine oil filter. According to South Korean official news agency Yonhap, a replacement engine had to be flown to Saipan. The flight number was OZ603, and there were 253 passengers aboard. The carrier was unable to provide Flightglobal with the aircraft’s registration number. Flightglobal’s Ascend Online Fleets database shows that the operator has seven 767-300s and one 767-300ERF. The average age of its 767s is 18 years. A 47-member committee comprising government officials and experts will be assembled to look into the incident. The Yonhap report adds that the two pilots involved in the incident have been suspended pending the outcome of the investigation. The incident will raise further questions about the competence of Asiana’s flight crews following the crash of an Asiana Boeing 777-200ER while attempting to land in San Francisco on 6 July 2013. Exploration company believes it may have found MH370FIRST ON 7: An Adelaide-based exploration company believes it may have located the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, 5000km away from where authorities have been looking. The company, GeoResonance, says its research has identified elements on the ocean floor consistent with material from a plane. Six weeks have now passed since the plane disappeared and extensive searches in the Indian Ocean have failed to locate any wreckage.   9. Now we know the real reason. Boeing is the culprit. I think he's right. We should ground all Boeing aircraft in Malaysia and ban all Boeing aircraft from entering Malaysian airspace.

  11. Just curious and this question goes to those who fly the plane. With the absence of a fuel jettison system, what configuration is the aircraft flown at to burn off fuel? Clean and high speed or Flaps/gears down for more drag?
  12. Did the delay happened after you boarded the plane? Or it was retimed much earlier? If much earlier, ground staff are suppose to explain.

(Reuters) - An Italian court has ruled that Emirates EMIRA.UL cannot operate flights directly between Milan Malpensa airport and New York, upholding a legal challenge brought against the Gulf airline by the Italian carrier association Assaereo. Assaereo, whose biggest member is domestic flagship airline Alitalia CAITLA.UL, had complained that Italy's civil aviation authority ENAC had granted Emirates the right to extend flights from Dubai to Malpensa onwards to New York's John F Kennedy airport. According to the court, Assaereo said in a statement on Thursday, the right to use Milan as a stopover cannot be granted to a non-EU operator or a carrier from a country which is neither the port of departure nor destination, which in this case are Italy and the United States. Emirates is a direct competitor of Etihad, which is in talks with Alitalia for the possible purchase of a large stake in the loss-making Italian carrier.   17. If business folks can afford jets they can afford the "elsewhere". The "quick hop" can be costly to them.
