  1. Yes. And it comes with locks and levers. WOW !!!! Just wondering whether he strengthened the joints, as like all paper, excessive movements will result in detachment.
  2. The engine, or rather the thrust reverser modules are incredible. To be able to create something fully functional using only paper and cardboard. A few week's work no doubt? Or even months?
  3. Moving on to the last segment. Starting of with a prop. IMG_0028 by sslee86, on Flickr Malindo ATR72-600 (9M-LMF). Tried to do something, but ended up with this shot instead Had enough of belly shots, so made a short walk to the side to get this baby boeing. IMG_0036 by sslee86, on Flickr Lion Air B737-8GP (PK-LKQ). The sun attempted to shine through the clouds at this point, but was unsuccessful. I started walking back to the centreline. Along the way, caught a glimpse of 2 "mosquitoes" flying in tandem. Ran back to the spot which I caught the Lion air and got these two flying in. Westland Lynx of the Army Air Corps. Wonder what brings them to Penang..... the food ?? IMG_0052 by sslee86, on Flickr ZE378 IMG_0054 by sslee86, on Flickr XZ651 IMG_0069 by sslee86, on Flickr SilkAir A320 (9V-SLF). Should have seen how hard this aircraft landed. Could have bounced once. And finally, Cathay's A330 operating CX633 (B-HLW) IMG_0086 by sslee86, on Flickr IMG_0093 by sslee86, on Flickr And FINALLY, the blue sky was sighted. Though it was time to leave and thus ends the 4-hour spotting session. Thanks for viewing. Comments / suggestions welcomed. SSLee *I have just realised to look out of my viewfinder every now and then to take in the aircraft as it is rather than to focus on snapping. Through the eyes, the images and the experiences are incredibly unforgettable.
  4. Thanks. Continuing on with the shots from last week's spotting session. IMG_9885 by sslee86, on Flickr FedEx Tri-Holer MD-11F with vortices on the flaps. Believe it or not, the landing lights at the front of the aircraft was actually detected as a face. IMG_9894 by sslee86, on Flickr AirAsia's A320 (9M-AFS). I would normally have cropped out the pole, but left it in as it shows how much the baby bus is cradled by the crosswind. IMG_9908 by sslee86, on Flickr Here's Firefly's ATR72 also trying to fight the wind. It had the smoothest landing of all the aircraft that came in. IMG_9919 by sslee86, on Flickr Head on shot of Tigerair A320 (9V-TAE) roaring into Penang. IMG_9928 by sslee86, on Flickr Belly of MAS's old workhorse. B737-4H6 (9M-MMK) IMG_9960 by sslee86, on Flickr Another FedEx, this time using the A306F. Wanted to attempt a bottom-side shot of the aircraft, but the wind pushed it from the centreline and caused it to fly directly over me. It touched down just left of the centreline. More to come, including 2 Lynx helicopters with BRIGHT ORANGE doors.
  5. Ever wondered how it's like to photograph shots in total cloud cover without light? Well wonder no more as I bring you exclusive shots of planes in the dark morning. I thought the heavy rain the previous night would have cleared all the clouds. It did not. The good thing though is that it was incredibly windy and a real comfortable 4-hour session. Regardless of that, I was clicking away. Here are the shots from the 11th of January. I do apologise for the image quality. Just to share. IMG_9678e by sslee86, on Flickr Cathay's Queen "Hopping" out of Penang (B-HOP) IMG_9696e by sslee86, on Flickr Thai Airways sending their baby Boeing again (HS-TDG). Those engines are LOUD. IMG_9755 by sslee86, on Flickr AirAsia effortlessly departing with the extra wingspan (9M-AJE) IMG_9773 by sslee86, on Flickr China Southern Airlines A320 (B-6910) IMG_9795 by sslee86, on Flickr IMG_9807 by sslee86, on Flickr Korean Air Cargo B747-400F (HL7437) with smoky engines IMG_9839 by sslee86, on Flickr Eva Air Cargo B747-45E(F) (B-16483). This one used the same runway length to lift off as a normal A320. Must've been a light load perhaps? Stay tuned for more.
  6. AirAsia's Ninetology just operated into Penang yesterday. With the wavy cheatline ending below the nose, viewed head on, it somehow passed my eyes as Hong Kong Airlines' 320 at a first glance. Those winglets on the 767 are humongous !! Almost twice the height of the cabin doors
  7. Those are some fine shots you've got there. Would really love to spot from this location.
  8. Yes indeed it is a sweet spot. No double fences, and no need to lift the camera far above your head to clear the fence. Is it??
  9. Wow those shots are sharp and clear. Did hear something like a fighter jet flying past the airport area yesterday. Wonder if that is from PEN or just a flyby to Butterworth.
  10. Nice shots of the Mad Dog. I guess this is how Coca Cola Airlines MAY look like should they start an airline?? The Weststar has a great colour scheme. Gives me an impression that it is a spy plane or something to that extend. Comes with shiny chrome wing edges too.
  11. Lovely 340. Looks like she needs a bath.
  12. Happy New Year to all. Here are some shots on the 5th day of the New Year. Starting off with Cathay's CX692 IMG_9560e_a by sslee86, on Flickr B747-467 (B-HUA) Followed by Thai Airways International, using their 737 instead of the normal A306 IMG_9582e_a by sslee86, on Flickr B737-4D7 (HS-TDK) Then Korean Air Cargo IMG_9619e2_a by sslee86, on Flickr B747-4B5F (HL 7602) Ending with AirAsia in another special livery IMG_9597_a by sslee86, on Flickr A320-216 (9M-AHD) Thanks for viewing. 13. Great shot. Good that we can still see this classic for a few more weeks to come. Hope to get a trip down sometime this month, then maybe might have that chance to snap. I wonder as to whether their sales for this sector had increased these past few months, with the addition of people flocking in to get their last chance to fly in the DC10 perhaps ?
  14. Nice !! Bombardier's pencil. Went to the airport on Sunday for my last spotting session...... of 2013. Sadly again, clouds were there to shield me from the scorching sunlight, and to prevent great lighting on the planes coming in. These are the best that I could come up with while pushing the camera as much as it can go. Wonder why? Airbusses galore !! IMG_8802e_a by sslee86, on Flickr AirAsia A320 (9M-AJA) with SHARKLETS IMG_8954e_a by sslee86, on Flickr Hong Kong Airlines A320 (B-LPG) came in as the sun was going down (still behind the clouds). This aircraft had very bright and shiny white landing lights as opposed to the normal yellowish ones on other A320s. IMG_8968e_a by sslee86, on Flickr Tigerair with new stripes (9V-TAV) I thank digital processing and digital photos for this next and last photo IMG_9015e_a by sslee86, on Flickr Cathay Pacific A330 in One World Livery (B-HLU) Had a great time spotting, even without great lighting. There were lots of people there that day. Even a tour bus filled with passengers came. That's all from my side for 2013. Happy New Year to all. SSLee
  15. Now that you've mentioned it, yea. The Yak is no longer there. Hopefully like you said, even more stuffs to see. Hopefully also more statics to see as well.
  16. Thanks. Winglets and sharklets. NICE. I have yet to snap (really hoping to get it one day) the a320 sharklets and the UPS 767 with winglets as well.
  17. Looks like the throttle has been on idle here for a while. Here are some updates from the Pearl of the Orient. All departures this round. Sadly there was heavy cloud cover. Sun only came out at about 1030. 18. Nice illumination of the interior floral design. Also great to see the highly analogous cockpit with the needles of the indicators twisting and turning, which is quite rare in today's aircraft. It really amazes me as to how much planes have evolved. Great shots of the DC-10. Keep them coming LeeCH: You flew SQ's A345?
  19. Lovely shots. Could still see the reflection of the runway on the aircraft.
  20. Lovely shot. Have always dreamt of snapping SQ's A345. Have the other 4 gone back to France, or are they still parked at Changi?
  21. Nice one. I did miss the observation deck at Penang airport which overlooked the taxiways and the runway. It is now an office area there. Thank goodness for the roads parallel to the runway for closeups of aircraft departures.
  22. Thanks Wai Ping, flee and Laurie. Really happy to have caught the two closely related C-17 (ZZ177 and ZZ178). Wai Ping, I took these photos opposite the terminal, along the industrial area. Don't think I can make it for the spotting this weekend.
  23. Here are the updates from last Saturday. Went to the airport to catch CX's passenger 747. Got rewarded with more. IMG_6209e by sslee86, on Flickr Eva Air Cargo B747-45E (F) (B-16406) showing off its thrust reverser's power. This is the most I could crop from the original image.
