  1. Do you mean to say there are other things besides a good, efficient, and cost effective airport that are pre-requisites for a route to be profitable?
  2. Is LHR or CDG a good, efficient, and cost effective airport?
  3. DPS +7 weekly, BKK +2 weekly and NKG +1 weekly has already been added to the schedule. MH was also approved for additional 260 weekly seats for KUL-BOM and 889 weekly seats for KUL-PER
  4. OD deadheads crew both ways (instead of putting crew in a hotel at destination)?
  5. Apples and oranges. AK/D7 had the ability to grow at that cow shed. Unless Air Asia Group secures an Australian AOC, AVV will just be the origin or destination for all pax (with very minimal non-interline transfers to OOL, ADL, and SYD on JQ but D7 already flies to OOL/SYD). AVV is also much further away from Melbourne's CBD than MEL where as KUL's former LCCT and KUL T1 is almost equidistance to KL's city center (and AK/D7 gets the benefit of transferring to/from other airlines operating at KUL even though it's a non-interline transfer). And the Aussie PSC (WY) for MEL is AUD $21 where as at AVV is AUD $20! Score! Btw, did Air Asia removed the ability to see the breakdown of taxes?
  6. Japan's MOT announced that US will get a huge chunk of the ~50 new daytime slots available at HND wef NS2020 schedule. 24 slots were allocated for JP-US routes (12 slots each for American/Japanese carriers) - that's a lot! That means Malaysia will be fighting for the remaining 13 slots (I'd assume the other 13 slots are reserved for Japanese carriers, making 26 slots). The silver lining is NH serves HND-KUL and I'd be very surprised if Malaysia receives none (Malaysia's current BFF is Japan - so hopefully Mr. Loke / Dr. M can sweet talk into getting more for Malaysia).
  7. Ah! Gracias. Not much better from before. There were no Japanese carriers flying HND-KUL during the second round of slots allocation hence Malaysia did not receive extra nighttime or daytime slots at that time. Didn't know DPS is conducive for B2B turns. Will keep that in mind
  8. MH will be adding a 4th daily DPS flight at less than ideal (to put it mildly) schedule: MH867 KUL2100 - 00:05+1DPS 738 D MH866 DPS0110 - 0410KUL 738 D IIRC, MH had a similar schedule before and that flight didn't last long. The silver lining is pax on this flight won't have to endure Bali traffic to get to/from their hotels
  9. MH doesn't fly to TRZ (I don't think they ever did). COK was a brief stint before it was suspended. I might be wrong, but I think TRZ is mainly VFR traffic where as COK is business and tourist traffic.
  10. That's almost like robbing Peter to pay Paul, no? Money still have to come out from somewhere. Do you want a local authority say Kudat Municipal Council operate Kudat airport? Where are they going to get the money from? Kudat residents? Sure. Let's all blow up more mountains and make our rainforests more fragmented and accessible to illegal logging/poaching. You do realize that some towns in the interiors aren't accessible by roads - only via rivers or planes? And while we are at it, let's invite more Chinese companies to invest in Malaysia so we'd be indebted to them and open up our ports and land for their use.
  11. Mavcom did not ask AK to drop their HAK services - AK did it on their own right. Duopoly is not predatory pricing. AK is the sole operator on certain routes too. Nobody is stopping AK from resuming their (limited?) service to HAK. There's also a reason why MH/OD doesn't go beyond 2-3 weekly flights (even though they could).
  12. 1) Dropping a destination because the airline is pissed off is rather myopic. Mavcom wants to prevent predatory pricing (as implied on the news article you posted) 2) It's bilateral restriction. MH/OD have already used 24 out of the 28 available weekly rights available. 3) Indeed it is Everybody loves COK but only one loves PUS
  13. 3 weekly flights filled with mainly tourists isn't exactly silver platter. AK isn't huge in KUL-REP as well (11 weekly flights). KBV is interesting. MH tried and failed (with 11 weekly flights IIRC), so did MI. But somehow AK/FD is successful in flying it 4 times daily ex-KUL and once a day ex-SIN. MH also applied for an additional daily frequency to DPS - so they are probably just adjusting their network.
  14. Time to say RIP to REP #sorrynotsorry According to airlineroute, MH will terminate its 3 weekly service to Siem Reap (REP). Last flight is scheduled for 30MAR2019.
  15. MH would love to fly to HND (probably would want to shift their entire operations to HND), but Malaysia-Japan bilateral doesn't allow any more HND flights. It is restricted to one night-time slot for both countries (which is a pity because almost all other SEA countries have 1 if not more daytime slots: SG, TH, VN, PH, ID). When the first daytime slots were announced, Malaysia couldn't get any daytime slots because there weren't any Japanese carriers flying HND-KUL then. Malaysia along with a few other countries is expected to get more daytime slots at HND (~50-60 daytime slots is available from 2020). Japan will announce the slot decision later this year. The question is how many daytime slots will Malaysia get (and I assume a Japanese carrier will need to request a daytime HND-KUL flight too in order for Malaysia carriers to get a daytime slot) and also, how will Mavcom allocate the daytime slot if Malaysia only receives 1.
  16. I love how people claim he's a hero when the fee is absolute bollocks in the first place (no other airline has this fee). If, and a very big if, it's the aerobridge fee as claimed, be like all carriers and just include it in the ticket price (I'd rather not see lined items like ATC clearance fee, taxiway charges, escalator fee etc. on my ticket). Equalize the PSC and everyone is all up and arms about it but when they get charged a BS fee, they are good with it. Some people just fall prey to the PR stunt a little too easily. MAHB: We did not impose KLIA2 Fee
  17. Sounds like the same architect for Paradigm Mall in Kelana Jaya, where Basement 1 to Ground Floor has like 10 floors in between (lower ground 1-5, concourse 1-3, mezzanine 1-2) and then Ground, upper Ground etc. If it ain't broke don't fix it (nothing wrong with G, 1, 2, 3 if they follow British etc. or 1, 2, 3 if they follow American)
  18. I bet our neighbor has a similar forum called Thaiwings and they are discussing how MH, OD, AK flies KUL-HKT multiple times a day but zero on TG. Or Aussiewings where MH, OD, D7 flies multiple daily flights to SYD, MEL, PER but QF/JQ can't make a single flight work.
  19. My old days was July of 2018 🙊 I am still surprised they deadhead crew to/from NRT/KUL. I know airlines deadhead crew but usually its because of less than 3 weekly flights or because of safety issues at destination. What about ICN where they have the same amount of flights and similar flying time?
  20. I am confused. When MH flies these thin routes, people here complain that it's doing it for the . When MH suspends the route, MH I totally forgot about deadheading crew both ways (but still inefficient staff roster). More importantly, I didn't realize they deadhead crew for KUL-NRT flights. That seems a little odd considering there are 12 weekly flights and I doubt staff are happy about deadheading on MH88 to work on MH89 a few hours later. My MH89 crew told me they spent a night in NRT.
  21. It's not that feasible when MH is operating a non-hub route on a twice weekly service. I am not sure if cabin crew can do a turnaround at NRT (I doubt it - that's 14 hour work day) but pilots will need to stay in TYO (and MH doesn't have a bunch of 737 pilots sitting around). And worse if they do not have any pilots/crew based in BKI to operate such flights. Other changes: Kuala Lumpur - Osaka Seasonal increase from 7 to 10 weekly flights for March and April 2019 MH7206 1330KUL - KIX2100 567 333 MH7207 2340KIX - KUL0545+1 567 333 Kuala Lumpur - Bangkok Frequency increase from 42 to 44 weekly services MH798 0705KUL - BKK0820 13 738 MH799 0920BKK - KUL1235 13 738 Also, MH 782/783 will see its A333 service increase from 2 to 4 weekly (day 3457 on A333) Kuala Lumpur - Jakarta MH720/721 will remain A332 for NS19
  22. That's news to me. As a low wage card dealer etc. or upper management? There are a lot of Filipinos working in Las Vegas' gambling industry which is why I am surprised, if it's true, that Malaysians are being employed to work in Philippine's gambling sector. Malaysian workers aren't cheap.
  23. Not on MH, but on PR. Increase from 7 to 11 weekly: From airlineroute: PR525 MNL0715 – 1100KUL 320 x246 PR527 MNL1115 – 1500KUL 320 246 PR529 MNL2000 – 2345KUL 321 x123 Return flight is red-eye ex-KUL (departing slightly past midnight).
  24. It was reopened on Friday morning but closed around 17:00 after a confirmed sighting (I am curious how do they see a drone when it's dark out)
  25. The timing of Hua Hin and Kuantan is rather interesting. Hua Hin increase is almost at the end of their peak tourist season whilst Kuantan is at the tail end of the monsoon season too (and I assume KUA is mainly for connecting traffic)?
