S V Choong 4 Report post Posted October 20, 2007 (edited) Suppose AK is allowed to operate via SZB. What effect will that bring to MH domestic sector? Thanks! Everyone will be flying from Subang as it is closer to KL, PJ, Shah Alam and Klang where the majority of the population lives. It will spell a disaster for MH domestic routes as not everyone would like to travel to KLIA, the airport that is considerably further from the centres. Unless of course MH is returning to Subang. Then this will lead to the question as to when KLIA will be expanded, as KLIA is lagging behind the original expansion plans. The government has invested billions of dollars and is certainly not keen to see their plans being ruined by any major airlines returning to Subang. Because it is known that the residents would prefer to fly out from Subang, so the government have to place certain restrictions and conditions of returning to Subang, in order to prevent airlines such as AK to return to Subang. All this is done to avoid double standards or leaving room for arguments. Expect the rules to get tougher should AK decides to purchase some turboprops. In the past, it didn't matter so much because AK was still a small airline. Today the same thing cannot be said about AK.... Anyways, Subang will be definitely be overcrowded if it is to become a domestic airport for KL. Just look at the old days when there were 3 terminals at Subang and what impact did it bring about to the Federal Expressway between Subang and KL. Hope this clarifying things a bit more for you, Teoh. Edited October 20, 2007 by S V Choong

But I don't think crowding SZB is going to be an issue, not for the next 10 years at least. SZB operated those days with 3 terminals to accomodate International/cargo/domestic. If AK is allowed to start flights there to/from SELECTED destinations only, I think they can even use the existing T3 to accomodate that. No new buildings needed. Sure, traffic will flare up a bit but it is a small price to pay, and the gahmen even have the option of expanding the second road entry into SZB, coming from damansara perdana through kampung melayu.
