They have ordered 20 B777-9 - they are not replacing their B77Ws one for one as the B777-9 is a larger aircraft. I think some of the existing B77W routes will be operated by the B78X and A359s.

Do note that the A359s will also have two subfleets - 20 regional configured and 7 ULR configured. SQ is now optimising their fleet for the various missions that the aircraft need to perform.

Looking forward to seeing more B78Xs joining their fleet this year!

They are already using their A350-900 on the SIN-SFO direct route as SQ31/32. Are these A359 the ULR model?

The SQ1/2 with a stop at HKG seems to be 77W at this stage.

No, that is the standard A359 - not sure if there are any payload restrictions. United also operate on this route non stop, on the B789.

SIA confirms it has grounded two Boeing 787-10 jets due to engine issues

SINGAPORE - Singapore Airlines (SIA) has grounded two of its nine Boeing 787-10 aircraft due to engine issues, the airline said on Tuesday, confirming a report in The Straits Times.

The planes are all fitted with the latest Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 TEN engines, an improved version of the Trent 1000 engine which has had issues with premature blade cracking.

Sources had told The Straits Times that preliminary checks show that the same cracked blade issue is affecting the new TEN engine.

See:

So, it looks bad for B787s of all models. And this also indicates that the A330Neo will also have some engine issues soon!
