Malaysia Airlines flight MH1/ 21 December that departed London-Heathrow for Kuala Lumpur last night experienced a technical defect on one of its Airbus A380 doors while inflight over Germany. The noise and vibration from the door was of no immediate risk. The aircraft is due to land in London Heathrow and will be evaluated by engineering staff and Airbus technical staff.

In the interest of passenger safety, the flight captain decided to return to Heathrow Airport.

MH1 is serviced daily by the Airbus A380-800.

Safety at all times is Malaysia Airlines' number one priority. The airline will update customers as further news is available.

The bloody door's been problematic for ages. Airbus should really do something to fix it.

Malaysia Airlines would like to apologise for the delay of flight MH1 from London-Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur which has now departed London.

The flight had earlier returned to London due to a technical defect with an Airbus 380 aircraft door. The noise and vibration from the door was of no immediate safety risk.

The defect was repaired in London Heathrow with consultation from Airbus and the licensing authorities. A panel in the door was tightened and the aircraft defect was cleared for take off. Safety remains Malaysia Airlines' number one priority.

MH1 is serviced daily by the Airbus 380-800 and Malaysia Airlines will work closely with the manufacturer to isolate the root cause of the issue.

Alternative arrangements are being made for passengers connecting in Kuala Lumpur with other airlines to ensure they get to their destination as soon as possible. Passengers were given constant updates and refreshments while the aircraft was in London Heathrow.
