Sepang Aircraft Engineering To Undertake Expansion To Increase Hangar Capacity

Recommended Posts

SEPANG, May 22 (Bernama) -- Independent aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service provider, Sepang Aircraft Engineering Sdn Bhd, plans to expand its hangar capacity to accommodate additional aircraft for MRO services.

Director Datuk Syed Budriz Putra said the company would invest RM55 million to undertake the expansion exercise, in the next two months, and when completed by mid-next year, the hangar would be able to handle between 16 and 17 aircraft.

The existing hangar has four lines to cater for about four to eight aircraft at one time and with the expansion, the company will have three additional lines.

"We specialise in the Airbus A320 series and we are moving slowly to ATR aircraft but the volume is small. For A330, we have plans in the future but not now," he said.

Syed Budriz was speaking to reporters during a media familiarisation trip to the company organised by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority.

AirAsia is the company's anchor client, said Syed Budriz, adding that it planned to add AirAsia X into its clientele list once the hangar extension was completed.

Sepang Aircraft Engineering is based at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport with a sizeable hangar space of 17,500 square metres.

Established in 2006, it has been revitalised and reorganised following the investment made by the Airbus Group.

Sixty per cent of the company's shareholding is held by Syed Budriz while the remaining 40 per cent by Airbus.

Surprisingly Firefly also send their ATR to be fixed by SAE. Malaysia has a lot of potential to be leader in MRO if we can get things right. Malaysia Airlines operates large amount of B737NG,so does Garuda and Lion Air. AirAsia for A320, and A330 soon A350......ATR by MASWings and Firefly...not forgetting there are also a lot of ATR operators in SEA. The region is overcrowded by A320 family too..We can earn a lot......Subang Airport space is abundant. We can do MRO for any aircraft if we want. Just a matter of getting the right strategies and executing them.

We can give Singapore a run for money.......
