Singapore Airlines-Tata Indian jv orders Airbus A320s

(Reuters) - Singapore Airlines has chosen Airbus's A320 (AIR.PA) to launch its new Indian joint venture with Tata Sons TATA.UL, scoring a victory over rival Boeing (BA.N) as the airline market Asia's third biggest economy shows signs of a revival.
Sources familiar with the decision said a project team picked the European plane in preference to Boeing's 737 - the aircraft ordered by low-cost operator SpiceJet SJET.BO to expand its fleet in a deal reported by Reuters on Tuesday.

New Singapore-Indian airline to get Airbus A320s

Singapore Airlines has decided to lease 20 Airbus A320s for the launch of its Indian carrier, a joint venture with the giant Tata Group, the new company confirmed on Thursday.

MUMBAI: Singapore Airlines has decided to lease 20 Airbus A320s for the launch of its Indian carrier, a joint venture with the giant Tata Group, the new company confirmed on Thursday.

Singapore Airlines chose the A320s over Boeing's 737s and will source the 20 planes from leasing companies rather than buying direct from Airbus, a Tata SIA Airlines spokesman told AFP.
"It's going to be an Airbus A320 fleet. The aircraft will be on lease," spokesman Sanjay Singh said in an emailed statement.
Singh did not disclose the cost of the lease arrangements, which were sealed some 10 days ago, but media reports put the deal at US$1.8 billion.
The new airline will likely start flying around July after it gains regulatory approval in India, the spokesman said.

seems quite on this lately - well Tiger now have easily 6 to 8 fairly new A320s sitting idle on ground in KLIA and Changi - due mainly to the collapse of Tiger-Mandala and cut back on Tiger's services.

Their marketing department is a bit careless. The Facebook page features some A320s sporting CFM engines while others featuring the IAE engines

Give them some slack please ! :)

India's newest airline takes to the skies

NEW DELHI, India - India's newest airline Vistara took to the skies on Friday, marking the return of the Tata Group into the aviation business after six decades. Vistara is now the third full-service carrier in the country, after state-run Air India and private carrier Jet Airways. The inaugural flight took off from Delhi's T3 Terminal for Mumbai.

Tata Group's chairman emeritus Ratan Tata said it has been a long-cherished dream for the Tata group to establish a world-class full service airline in India and he would dedicate this day to late JRD Tata, the former chairman of the group and India's first licensed pilot. "Today, that dream has come to life," said Ratan Tata.
