QF headphones made by Chinese prison labours, alleges former inmate

According to a BBC report, Australian Financial Review reported that a former Chinese prisoner claimed that "prisoners were made to work long hours and were often beaten", also only got paid US$1.30 per month, making disposable headphones for Qantas.

 

The report also claims BA and EK also used the same supplier for their headphones.

 

As if QF needed another bad publicity...

I recall reading an article many many years ago where MAS headphones are cleaned and repacked by Pudu Prison inmates so that they can earn something while waiting to be released. I thought it was a good idea.

Earning their keep is better than letting them languish in the cell for nothing while burning up tax-payers' monies daily.

 

The part of being beaten etc is dramatised in my opinion. Otherwise this story would not have aired because having inmates to labor for their keep is universally accepted.
