Tiger Airways, Scoot Sign Agreement On Wide-ranging Partnership

Recommended Posts

SINGAPORE, Oct 1 (Bernama) -- Singapore-based low-cost airlines, Tiger Airways Singapore and Scoot, Monday signed a memorandum of understanding towards deep and wide-ranging cooperation.

The initial phase of this partnership will see each carrier marketing joint itineraries between Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City and Kuala Lumpur, destinations served by Tiger; and Sydney and Gold Coast, served by Scoot.

Customers may purchase a single itinerary for travel from Australia, via Singapore, to Tiger's destinations.

Noting the MoU as an exciting development at the signing ceremony here," Scoot Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson said: "Both carriers operate highly complementary networks, with Scoot focusing on medium-long haul routes of five or more hours, and Tiger focusing on shorter-haul journeys.

He said both airlines operate side-by-side at Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 2, and share a common philosophy of offering fuss-free service at unbeatable value.

Meanwhile, Tiger Airways Group CEO Koay Peng Yen said: "With Tiger's move to our new den at Changi Airport Terminal 2, it's the perfect time to leverage the strength of our networks to our customers' benefits.

"Tiger Singapore operates up to 90 flights daily. The joint itineraries and new services that we will be rolling out will greatly expand the travel options for both Tiger and Scoot customers," he added.

In this initial trial, customers can purchase flight itineraries originating from Australia to popular South East Asia destinations.

The joint itineraries originating from Australia are available for sale from tomorrow for travel from Oct 15 onwards.

Itineraries originating from Asia will be available for sale and travel from Nov 2 onwards.

SINGAPORE: Tiger Airways Singapore and Singapore Airlines' long-haul budget airline Scoot, signed a partnership deal to jointly market tickets to destinations served by either firms on Monday.

Tiger Airways is an associate of Temasek Holdings, which is the holding company of Singapore Airlines, Scoot's parents. Singapore Airlines owns 32.7 per cent of Tiger Airways.

Under the agreement, the first phase of the partnership will see the two carriers jointly sell itineraries between Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City and Kuala Lumpur, destinations served by Tiger, as well as Sydney and Gold Coast, where Scoot flies.

This trial will enable customers to purchase flight itineraries to various destinations from Australia to highly-visited South East Asian destinations. Passengers will transit in Singapore.

Customers will however, have to pass through immigration and collect their belongings before proceeding to check into the second leg of their flight upon their arrival in Singapore.

The later phase will see customers being able to purchase flight itineraries from South East Asia.

The two budget carriers will also boost this service with a direct connection process to allow customers to continue their journeys without passing through immigration and collecting their baggage.

According to the statement, the joint itineraries from Australia will be on sale from Tuesday for trips from October 15, while those originating from Asia will be available from November 2.

In a joint statement, both airlines said there could be a need for applications for anti-trust immunity as the cooperation deepens in future. This will be sought from the relevant regulatory authorities at the appropriate time as required.

Good JV while Scoot concentrate on the long haul, Tiger could work with Scoot and connect the passengers around SEA and Australian Domestic.

Yes, this is what collaboration should be - synergy. Both airlines should benefit greatly from this.

So, they are doing SQ - LCC?

because it does sound like what SQ and MI is doing - MI doing under 4 hours and SQ doing above that?

No. SQ is flying under 4 hours flight as well as above 4 hours flight. Same goes to MI, which some of its India/China flights are more than 5 hours. Some of the under 4 hours flights that SQ is operating are to CGK, BKK, DPS, MNL, SGN, HAN, RGN etc.

I think the SQ-MI relationship is more related to traffic volume and yield.

SQ takes the high yielding, high traffic routes; MI take the lower traffic and lower yielding ones.

There are some routes, e.g. SIN-KUL, that are served by both SQ and MI.

or unique arrangements like BWN, served only by SQ but operated by MI and SQ.

Co-operation between Scoot and Tigerair Continues to Deepen

Since the Competition Commission of Singapore’s grant of anti-trust immunity (ATI) on 8 August 2014, low cost airlines Scoot and Tigerair Singapore have been working hard to bring the benefits of increased co-operation to guests.

Already, Scoot and Tigerair have seen a doubling of passengers connecting between the two airlines thanks to more competitive airfares, co-ordinated joint promotions and the launch of new itineraries only available by combining the routes of both airlines. And there is much more to come.
From early January, the airlines are operating as joint venture services two routes flown in parallel – Singapore to Hong Kong and Bangkok – offering more schedule choice and harmonised policies.
From February, Scoot will increase the frequency of its Singapore - Perth route to daily as Tigerair redeploys its aircraft to other markets.
Later in 2015, both carriers are working towards allowing seamless booking of each other’s flights on their respective websites.
The seamlessness and convenience will improve even further with deeper integration of the two airlines' reservations systems, and as the two airlines coordinate schedules to improve the ease of connections, range of flight times and destinations available to guests.
Scoot’s CEO, Mr Campbell Wilson, said, “August’s grant of ATI allowed Scoot and Tigerair to take concrete steps toward realising the full potential of our complementary networks. The opportunities are many, and though some initiatives will take more time, it’s great to see significant early benefits such as the rise in connecting passenger volumes.”
Continued Mr Lee Lik Hsin, Group CEO of Tigerair, “We have long maintained that Tigerair and Scoot are natural partners, and the early gains from our new phase of co-operation reinforce this belief. The upcoming rollout of joint-venture routes, deeper system integration and schedule co-ordination will further strengthen both partners and, most importantly, provide greater convenience and flight options to our guests.”
Beyond coordination on promotions, distribution and network, the airlines are also exploring other opportunities for deeper co-operation, including common ground handling, procurement and service centres. But what will not change is Scoot and Tigerair’s commitment to providing safe, reliable and unbeatable value travel - across a combined network of 47 cities - so that you can see more of this great world, more often.
