A consumer's view

Come come & set up fast ThaiTiger Airways or whatever it's called & fly south to LCCT with3 daily flight. If u can beat AK's average RM400 return flight price, who doesn't want to spend a weekend up north?

That's marketing. Like VS's "NO to BA-AA"

Let's face it. It's a brutal business world out there. Mr. Nice Guy ain't gonna survive. If you're not arrogant, you're perceived as weak.

Thai Tiger Airways launch likely to be delayed

http://www.businesstraveller.com/asia-pacific/news/thai-tiger-airways-launch-likely-to-be-delayed

Thai Tiger Airways (TTA), the low-cost collaboration between THAI Airways and Tiger Airways, may be delayed a second time if negotiations between the two entities and opposition from Thailand’s transport ministry are not resolved.

The original January 2011 take off was recently moved to March 2011, but seems in danger of being delayed by another two months, according to Ampon Kittiampon, THAI chairman. He said both airlines were threshing out the financial details to ensure that TTA’s business model was economically sound and competitive.

The transport ministry is also questioning the legality of TTA's creation despite reports that the joint venture has the blessing of Prime Minister Abhisit Vijjajiva.

TTA was conceived to stem the eroding market share experienced by THAI Airways and its domestic subsidiary Nok Air in recent years, Piyavasti Amranand, THAI president, told journalists attending a conference in Bangkok last week to mark the airline’s 50th Anniversary.

Budget travel pioneer AirAsia, through its subsidiary Thai Air Asia, has been aggressively growing scheduled domestic and international flights from Bangkok and other cities in Thailand.

Amranand, however, believed there is business for all, saying: “The market potential in Asia is enormous; there are millions of people here who have never flown before.“It is critical that we try to capture that segment of the business.”

Amranand said that TTA would go head-to-head with Thai Air Asia, targeting the “ultra low-end sector by offering cheap ticket prices”.

He also emphasised that THAI, despite its involvement in TTA, would treat it as a completely different entity. “There will be no integration with THAI or Nok Air, no code sharing at all as TTA’s flights will be point to point. We need to distinguish between the brands so as not to destroy them.”

Airbus A320s on lease will be used for TTA's operations, Amranand said.

He added that Nok Air was not considered for THAI's new enterprise "because it was not a low-cost carrier", adding that Tiger Air had "the best expertise" for the job.

Declan Ryan, principal of Ryan Air, a shareholder of Tiger Airways, agreed with THAI officials about the bright future of low-cost carriers in the Asia-Pacific. He said LCC penetration in the region was still quite low at 15.5 per cent compared with the global average of 21.7 per cent and 36 per cent in the EU.

Tiger adds more flights and four new services

http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/sub/companies/story/0,4574,410524,00.html?

By VEN SREENIVASAN

TIGER Airways Singapore is launching its biggest ever 'winter' schedule this weekend, with new flights to four new destinations and increased services to others.

In all, the airline is increasing its weekly flights by some 20 per cent, from over 300 flights now, during the period from November 2010 to March 2011. This includes services to four new destination: Manila, Trichy, Trivandrum and Taipei.

The flights to Manila start on Oct 31, while those to Trichy and Trivandrum in southern India will start on Nov 1 and Nov 2. The Taipei flights begin on Jan 11.

In addition to the new services here, its sister carrier, Tiger Airways in Australia, will also be operating its biggest ever flying programme, with the introduction of new services from Avalon Airport in Victoria to Gold Coast, Alice Springs, Sydney, Adelaide, Mackay, Rockhampton and Perth starting on Nov 10, and services between Sydney and Brisbane starting on Feb 7.

Tiger Airways has 21 A320 planes in service, of which 12 are based in Singapore.

'We are very excited about our new flying programme that we are launching this Sunday, as it represents the largest number of seats and destinations that we have ever operated,' said Rosalynn Tay, managing director of Tiger Airways Singapore.

'We have been working hard over the last few weeks to minimise the disruption some of our customers have experienced as a result of the aircraft reliability issues that we recently suffered with our new aircraft. Whilst this winter season marks our biggest ever flying programme from Singapore, we have also made some schedule adjustments in order to restore our high levels of reliability.'

Tiger was in the news lately for several flight cancellations and delays which were blamed on pilot shortages and aircraft technical glitches.

This prompted arch-rival AirAsia to launch a slew of 'comparative' advertisements which took pot-shots at Tiger.

'We would also like to thank our competitors for helping us grow our webshare in Singapore,' Ms Tay added.

'Whilst www.tigerairways.com has consistently been the No 1 airline website in Singapore, the recent blitz of marketing spend incurred by a competitor to promote our services has pushed our lead even further, increasing our market share from 20 per cent to more than 24 per cent.'

High levels of reliability eh?? I gotta say they are very reliable when it comes to cancelling my flight.
