First A320 to use IPH?

Recommended Posts

Could have been AK, but was "BI" the first operator of the A320 into IPH?

I posted this under Observation Hill:

"Did anybody catch the BI A320 (V8-RBT) that flew into IPH from BWN last wk? The Sultan & entourage flew on a commercial aircraft (not sure if the interior was changed, like seat pitch enhanced?) for the Perak Sultan's silver jubilee dinner.

So, it seems that the smallest aircraft in the Royal Fleet is the 762 and there are no more Gulfstreams."

Hence, the 320 had to pulled away from scheduled services. This was probably the largest aircraft handled by IPH - can't think of anything else?

The aircraft came over the wkend, on 14-Feb and left the evening of 15-Feb, after the dinner.

TF most probably meant a fully loaded 320 on a typical commercial flight mission. (Btw, I think AK or its Indon associate still uses 737 to Bandung. Can a flly loaded 320 operate into Bandung?)

Obviously not a problem for a lightly loaded 320 (maybe just circa 20-30 pax, with hardly any luggage?) into IPH.

there are weight restrictions into and out of BDO, hence the usage of the 737s. if it was a320 capable, it would have been done long time ago.. :clapping:

Off-topic, Going forwards, given that BDO is a popular route, how would Airasia continue to service this route? Maintain 733s for as long as possible or when the time comes, use a weight restricted 320 to service the route (wonder how the economics are, if so)?

Yes an A320 can land in Bandung - as Air Asia Indon flies from SIN to Bandung using the A320 and loads are generally above 70%

Note the date of the original posting - Feb 2009. I think Airasia Indonesia did keep its B737-300s longer than planned just so that it could operate to BDO. Once the runway extension was completed, the B737s were retired from QZ's fleet and A320s took over.
