  1. Read here: "Today, based on raw satellite data that was obtained from the satellite data service provider, we can confirm that the aircraft shown in the primary radar data was flight MH370. After much forensic work and deliberation, the FAA, NTSB, AAIB and the Malaysian authorities, working separately on the same data, concur." http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/sideviews/article/press-statement-on-mh370-najib-razak
  2. The PM said yesterday the blip was confirmed to be MH370, hence the stop on the SAR in South China Sea. The Inmarsat satellite ping is the confirmed last known location, so that's the new baseline. In a macabre sense, we are lucky the plane didn't smash into KLCC.
  3. ""Yet inside a Malaysian air force control room on the country's west coast, where American-made F-18's and F-5 fighters stood at a high level of readiness for emergencies exactly like the one unfolding in the early morning of March 8, a four-person crew did nothing about the unauthorized flight. "The watch team never noticed the blip," said a person with detailed knowledge of the investigation into Flight 370. "It was as though the airspace was his." Sleeping on the job, as I said.
  4. At 8:11 plane had been flying for 7:30h. Can assume fuel ran out soon after?
  5. The air force soljar said on day one got reciprocal turnback, then deny, then yes again. This wasted so much time. Sleeping on the job?
  6. Attacked? Who's sleeping on the job when anonymous 370 crossed the northern part of the peninsula?
  7. In this nice graphic from WSJ, the geostationary satellite is Inmarsat IOR, located at 64E. The estimated location arcs must have been calculated via time delay between transmission and reception. So distance is the only parameter available, whence the arcs. The arcs end when fuel should have run out, while the gap in SEA is possibly due to radar corroboration.
  8. I think the satellite phone system since the Inmarsat satellite above the Indian Ocean picked it up.
  9. That's consistent with satphone system pinging to update itself. You cellphone does it every few minutes so that the cellular system knows where you are and how to route your traffic.
  10. Inmarsat is the source, that's very credible. So is it the satellite phone system on the plane pinging the Inmarsat satellites, just like a cellphone pinging the cellular base stations?
  11. Capt Nik Huzlan on Astro Awani now. Interesting stuff to be discussed.
  12. Indeed! RT @JulieMakLAT: Everyone in Asia seems to believe Washington knows where Malaysia Airlines #MH370 is, but doesnt want to disclose more US surveillance tech
  13. Based on latest Reuters story. Pls check updates at: http://storify.com/Naim/mh370

  16. "A critical aspect of the EHM system is the transfer of data from aircraft to ground. Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) digital data-link systems are used as the primary method of communication. This transmits the Aircraft Condition Monitoring System (ACMS ) reports via a VHF radio or satellite link whilst the aircraft is in-flight. A worldwide ground network then transfers this data to the intended destination. The positive aspect of this system is its robust nature and ability to distribute information worldwide. On the other hand, the Airplane Condition Monitoring Function (ACMF) reports are limited to 3kB, hence the acquisition systems need to work within this limitation. Future systems are being deployed to increase data volumes through wireless data transmission as the aircraft approaches the gate after landing. This will enable more data to be analysed, but will not be as immediate as ACARS, where data can be assessed well before the aircraft lands again." http://www.rolls-royce.com/about/technology/systems_tech/monitoring_systems.jsp
  17. This is crazy! Indian Ocean now? === RT: @airchive: BREAKING: @WSJ reports that engine monitoring data shows missing 777 was airborne for five hours #MH370 http://on.wsj.com/1lYw4kp @jonostrower
  18. Different providers have different coverages. Check each one out, read fine prints too.
  19. You need to buy insurance from first day of journey till last day of journey. For e.g. take a look at https://secure.acetravelinsurance.com/ATIMY/?gclid=CLbnqanEjb0CFYkl4godZlkAjA
  20. Love to see them sweating it out and struggling to string together a decent sentence. See this gorgeous graphic from WP. Just sloppy rushed printing job. Nothing to bother.
  21. "Vietnam keeps discovering. Malaysia keeps denying. China keeps sending things on the way. Journalists keep waiting at the Lido hotel [where relatives are waiting]. Family members keep being in pain … But where is the plane?" MORE ON: http://storify.com/Naim/mh370/ That's why SG army is confident in advancing all the way to Keluang before they get any opposition. I concur with you on this. Am not surprised if their so-called military radars are operational only half the time, like their fighter jets. Seems like they are covering their asses right now.
