  2. I wonder where this spot is? "Since 2006, JAL has been displaying messages written by passengers and a cabin attendant before they died, at its Safety Promotion Center at Haneda Airport." === 28th anniversary of JAL jumbo jet crash marked NATIONAL AUG. 13, 2013 - 07:05AM JST ( 4 ) GUNMA — Relatives of victims of the 1985 crash of a Japan Airlines jumbo jet on Monday marked the 28th anniversary of the accident in Gunma Prefecture. On Monday morning, around 300 relatives of some of the 520 people who died and JAL officials climbed up to Osutaka Ridge to visit the site of the crash and offered prayers at a cenotaph. At 6:56 p.m.—the exact time of the crash—a ceremony was held in Ueno village at the foot of the mountain, NTV reported. JAL Flight 123, with 524 people aboard, took off from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at 6:12 p.m. on Aug 12, 1985. Twelve minutes into the flight, a bulkhead is believed to have blown in the tail, creating over-pressurization that severed the four sets of hydraulic-control lines and blew part of the tail section off. With a total loss of hydraulic pressure, the captain attempted unsuccessfully to regain control of the aircraft as it descended uncontrollably in a flight condition known as the “Dutch roll.” At 6:56 p.m., the plane crashed into the mountain. Only four survivors were found when the first rescue workers arrived 12 hours later. Since 2006, JAL has been displaying messages written by passengers and a cabin attendant before they died, at its Safety Promotion Center at Haneda Airport. 7. Korean Air flight overruns runway during landing at Niigata Airport posted on AUGUST 6, 2013 by ADAM WESTLAKE in NATIONAL with NO COMMENTS Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has reported that a passenger plane operated by the carrier Korean Air overshot the runway on Monday evening when making a landing at Niigata Prefecture’sairport. Departing from Seoul, South Korea at around 6:00 PM, Flight 763 arrived in Niigata city just before 8:00 PM, stranding itself with the front landing gear stuck in the grass just beyond the runway. The airport’s fire and emergency crews rushed to the plane after the troublesome landing, and fortunately there were no injuries reported among the passengers or crew, and they were able to safely get off the aircraft. A representative for Korean Air has said that they do not know yet if the incident was caused by faulty components or pilot error, however three officials have been tasked with investigating exactly what happened. The airline says their initial account of what happened is that the plane landed, but did not properly reduce its speed, and thus skidded off the runway, coming to a stop with its nose pointing down a small slope. The plane was a Boeing 737, and this incident comes as the aircraft manufacturer struggles to recover from months of trouble with its new flagship 787 Dreamliner, which was plagued with a number of high-profile battery fires and resulted in a worldwide grounding. In addition, this incident comes roughly a month after an Asiana Airlines flight crashed in San Francisco while attempting to land, injuring 180 passengers and killing three. http://japandailypress.com/korean-air-flight-overruns-runway-during-landing-at-niigata-airport-0633387/

The Hulu Selangor District Council has deemed it an illegal airport and ordered Yayasan Selangor, the owner of the 86ha land near Slim River, Perak, to submit a development plan for the airport within a month or face having the place sealed. The project, a joint venture between Yayasan Selangor and a private company, was to develop the land at Kampung Sri Keledang into a first-of-its-kind aviation resort in the country, promising bungalows with parking space for light aircraft. ... 11. Perennial problem! === The Airlines' Endless Quest for Better Boarding Associated Press By DAVID KOENIG AP Airlines Writer DALLAS July 31, 2013 (AP) Getting people on and off an airplane quickly is so complicated that even an astrophysicist couldn't figure it out. The astrophysicist, Jason Steffen of the University of Illinois, normally contemplates things such as axion-like particles. But after waiting in one boarding line too many, he turned to the mysteries of airline seating. "I thought there had to be a better way," he says. So, after a series of calculations, he deduced that the best system would be a combination of filling window seats first, then middle and aisle ones, while also spacing the boarding passengers two rows apart. There was just one problem — passengers would have to board in precise order. Good luck with that. These are the same passengers who don't turn off their phones even after they're told it's a federal law. "Well," Steffen observes, "I understand why airline people aren't calling me." But the search for the perfect boarding process goes on. ... READ MORE: http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/airlines-endless-quest-boarding-19823190
