  1. good to know MH is turning to a better direction (I wonder if you know who has realized that it is better to leave MH to be run as a corporation?) although - SQ's 637mil against MH's 48mil is a BIG difference.... It still shows that MH can still gain improvements financially as well...
  2. gosh, this is interesting piece of news - flight diverted due to toilets not emptied... sabotage... QF should not discount that it may be a factor...
  3. CX had the same incident some time back, it was all over TVB and HK Dailies..... QF has been experiencing a string of bad luck, it will not sound so bad and so "heated" if not for the hole in 744...
  4. Apart from the continuous exposure and scrutiny from the media from incident to another, another panel issue.... with so much of free press.... they can save from advertising costs..... although the blame on others has seem to quiet down... (hope i don't speak too soon!) Panel falls off Qantas plane during flight / August 15, 2008 - 2:39PM Qantas today confirmed a panel had fallen off a jumbo jet mid-flight, but federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese has urged Australians not to "talk down" the national carrier. The Boeing 747 was en route to Singapore from Melbourne when the small engine access panel became detached, a Qantas spokesman said. The problem was discovered during routine checks on the plane after it arrived at Singapore's Changi Airport early this morning. "It had absolutely no flight safety implications," the spokeswoman said. The access panel, which was "non-structural", was replaced and the flight continued to London after a delay of just under six hours. The incident was the latest in a series of aircraft problems for Qantas. But Mr Albanese called for some perspective on the airline's record. "Australia has one of the safest aviation systems in the world," he told reporters in Sydney. "I think that, quite clearly, Qantas themselves regret any disruption that occurs, but it is important to put this in perspective. "Safety has to be paramount. "It is in Australia's national interest for Qantas not to be talked down." This morning, a Qantas flight from Brisbane to Melbourne was also delayed by more than half an hour because of a technical problem. On Wednesday night, a Qantas Boeing 767 experienced a hydraulic failure which affected the plane's steering as it landed at Sydney airport. The plane left a trail of hydraulic fluid as it touched down on its way from Melbourne, forcing the closure of the runway for 40 minutes while the spill was mopped up. Last month an explosion ripped a hole in the fuselage of a Qantas jet en route from Hong Kong to Melbourne, forcing an emergency landing at Manila. 5. i tried mine, i managed to get a rm360 charge against RM800 plus before entering the sms promo code from HSBC ... i still feel that it is more expensive compared to AK promo... got another code, not sure if i need it......
  6. but then again MH has fared well in previous years continuously with skytrax... so are most better rated airlines, they are not 100% covered but you see most of the top performers in general... even with doubts and biasness they entail - skytrax has created a lot of awareness for people worldwide in general with their results... MH has done well financially - now its time to enhance their products...
  7. awards means a lot to us, we have been conditioned since young by society, it is also a form of recognition... datukships, oscars, fiabci, KLIA awards, dean's list, employee of the year, month, week.... (They also come in all shapes and sizes...)
  8. Constructive and intelligent discussion?? Please, not even a little glimmer of intelligence shown in below the belt cheap shot......
  9. factual inaccuracy - what is inaccurate with 2 at par contending airlines? hence the further question/explanation why involve airlines not in the same league for comparison. Perhaps a superior being feels he knows australasia has other airlines apart from QF and NZ. Eh Brother - a bit of mutual understanding on other people's posts here is appreciated rather than implying people do not know their geography/airliners can ah..... There are others apart from NH that is of the same fate. 100% equal footing on flight surveys, long haul/short haul difference is next to impossible. People don't need you point out how to select carriers of their choice by ignoring surveys which you so deem as thrash. Do you consider the masses that participated in skytrax's survey as junk? does that not qualify that they have experienced the airline? A passenger's experience with the airline even though one time/one off is not real life enough? surveys are designed to "general" experiences and not a one off, hence there is sampling size. If you put your one off/one time criterias in every survey then of course it does not work out. 1 negative out of 10 will already give you a good sampling. Given - A good survey with a one off submission will be considered inaccurate (of course its not for me to decide how surveys are run by skytrax) Marketing is a different ball game for discussion, basis is - who in marketing right mind will select an incompatible (mickey mouse) partner to work with, will SQ partner with a firm doing junk surveys (just an example-not that they do or that I know of) ? maybe donald duck or hello kitty company is a better option with this it implies that SQ must have Skytrax as a consultant for many years since they are in the winning team most of the time? I disagree - it's in my previous post. It is a well known fact that they do consultancy for airlines - if we are able to prove that they are one sided, with facts of course - then I will hand in hand thrash them "kau kau"(big time) also!!!
  10. thanks Gavin - I am blur, you guys are real pro, at a snap can just get the aircraft by the rego.... "shi fu" oh ok, now i realized after checking out the picture - maybe they add a sticker "last year" la....... hahahahhah!!!!
  11. Oh, I do not know that QF and NZ compare themselves with Air Tahiti Nui, Air pacific, Air Calin and Air Niugini. Are they of similar fleet size, legacy ratings, alliance(1world,*A), routes? From what I know QF has never compared their products with them? They are non contendors... unless they realize that 2 big boys in the game thats why they put in those airlines to look good. It is akin to SQ contending against Lion Air(heck even lion air is bigger than them), Adam air, kartika and carriers of that sort... Likewise there will be those who thrash QF as well as those who love QF wholly, however most people are guided by surveys and what not (a big majority), otherwise - go figure why skytrax results are highlighted by travel industry and some airlines year after year and is used as benchmarking in the industry ? Dubious - sounds too harsh, travel industry relates to their survey, airlines relates to their survey... what about the respondants all over the world - are they to participate in skytrax? your views undermined people right through to industry... although I am interested to read again about how flawed their methods are as highlighted by you. The only thing i see is it may not be 100% fair due to sampling size, location, nationality, DIFFERENCE IN OPINIONS(especially), etc.. but in general it works very well, otherwise industry wide and multi million/billion corp won't pay attention... otherwise your skytrash would have trashed long time ago and not flourish...
  12. it takes more than a380 to win - remember majority of the survey respondants have not tried their a380 product (yet), it's things like inflight service, entertainment, innovative products, connectivity, frequency, etc... They are a market leader in many ways, eg. in US SQ is well known as the best premium carrier and they know none of their airlines can match SQ, not to mention other airlines follows what SQ does... come to think of it - MH used to be in the same league of the big boys and dare I say was SQ's competitor in the hey days now until "you know who" puts their fingers in the management.... MH can be on par again, if they really go into it. there is only Air NZ to compete. to me its a non competition if only 2 major airlines compete LCC's is surveyed as a separate unit and not together with full service carriers mmmm.... AHO itu apa, tak tahu the acronym la....??
  13. BTW Air asia has been knocked down to 2nd placing by Jetstar Asia this round... Tiger is 3rd. Best low cost airline - Asia and also South East Asia And Qantas won for Australasia !! hoooray !!! did they win anything for best aircraft maintenance blaming others award? qantas also won best first class lounge(sydney) - our MH rimbun concept apa sudah jadi......totally not in the list....... on the whole, need more malaysians to vote in skytrax..... www.airlinequality.com then results will be different.....
  14. sq accolades - not surprised mh drop - not surprised rumours - crew morale affected with benefit cuts and setbacks, increased sectors(although still to legal/union boundary)... heard quite a number are knocking on air asia's door due to frustration... but thankfully did not slip far back.... must be last years buffer - continue like that - landslide lower.... doubt the mealboxes plays a big part(maybe small part) in the survey decline, skytrax is mostly international and mostly long hauls.....besides they are competing with the big players, if mealbox meals are used a gauge for competition - MH sure mati keras (die standing)!!! onboard meals is one fraction of the survey only.
  15. mh is the current scapegoat, they tried Singapore last time too remember, its interesting that some of the news refer outsourced countries as asians....(in my opinion it sounds racist) The past Qantas maintained aircraft confirmed their technical ability is not up to par - even though they claim that it is above world standard (read between the lines, they are the highest standard in the world) below the belt cheap shots by some parties...... MH or you know who should be more vocal to counter act, its Australian news all the time highlighting sub standard Malaysian aviation technical ability. This kind of publicity adversely affects mh, potential airlines(Not Australians of course) may think again if they want to use MH's technical expertise...
  16. ahhhh, a trickle of understanding at last!!! agree, you have a nice heart with constructive criticisms.....
  17. oh my, the damage on the fuselage looks extensive, scary actually! very good pictures you found Mir...
  18. deserted loyal customers, jumped ship customers..... at the end of the day it still boils down to dollars and cents, he managed to turn MH from loss to gain in his first tenure, unless of course if the revenue is a "dressed up" profit & loss statement with creative accounting...who knows like everyone says too much interference.
  19. Awww, give the guy a break, perhaps MH will shine if we forumers in particular were managing MH??? Maybe we will launch MH further than SQ, maybe we will make MH into the world's most profitable airline dethroning the current champion..... but then wait, have to fall back to earth. we have interferences (from you know who) that may hinder all our plans.... it's not easy to be IJ? easier posting replies and thoughts than attending meetings, crunching financial figures, leading and managing people what more a big corporation, handling challenges and plenty, lots more... what more with interferences that is difficult to fend from a governing decision maker. In fairness at least we see improvements from his stewardship, although not with flying colours but with all the excessive bleeding and wounds in the past, healing will take longer.....
  20. tsk tsk, and the QF unions go condemning the quality of engineering of MH and(previously Sin), perhaps with so many spate of tech issues, they should seriously outsource all to MH... kill 2 birds with 1 stone, cost effective and aircraft upkeep is enhanced* *notice I use the word ENHANCED...... It's also a string of bad luck for QF - media attention, towtruck mishap is also a sensational piece of news now..... As with the security issues, optimistically - it shows that airport security is working...better safe than sorry..

have to kesian PEN longer, (once there are politics involved...) lmited space and limited federal government fundings....
  22. it looks pretty serious with so much of wound showing..... as least to the novice and laypeople like me.....
  23. for a list of crew discounts, that one you have to look inside MH maybe your staff bulletin, crew department, etc........ aircrew rates are very attractive but prior arrangements/reservations need to be made.......
  24. Hi Mansor, there is this thing called interliner/crew rates... depending on the hotel management and country, some give 50% discount off their published rates, whereby the hotel who houses crew layovers will have a better rate for the airline staff on holidays. This is again subject to the hotels discretion and decision. a valid crew id is normally required by the hotel at check in but it is best to agree on the rate at reservations (if you are on a holiday) say you are on layover (on duty) certain hotels that houses the crews may accord discounts on your food and beverage consumption - best to check it out at check in.normally a hotel staff will announce it. Some hotels even have special crew facilities, like a lounge, etc.... and if you are the pilot some even get suite upgrades. Whatever it is, best check with the hotel to ascertain discount(s)... some individual restaurant outlets may also offer unofficial undocumented discounts to crews (to show appreciation-maybe it is a frequent haunt of crews - business promotion as well) your senior crews will normally have the tips and info. Not to mention the discounts for local tours occasionally...
  25. hmmm..... one panel missing will also make it international news... I am begining to be concerned when an airline representative advocates that "unretracted gear" is treated as a joke and a "non issue"..... hmm......
