Wira Kris Schreiner Malaysia I have gathered a lot of information but information on some of the airlines is difficult to come by. I still have many questions so I will post some in the coming days. Geoff Thanks for that information Kenneth. If Wikipedia is to be believed Saeaga Airlines also had signed a deal to lease 10 A320 to expand it's destinations to Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi and 6 destination in China, 2 in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Philippines and Indonesia by September 1998. However, the airline ceased trading in April 1998 due to financial problems due in part at least to the Asian financial crisis. Geoff
  4. Thanks for the link. I knew they never got the second aircraft but thought the first one was delivered. Any idea what routes they planned to operate? Geoff
  5. I have being doing some searching for information on airlines that no longer exist and wondered if anyone can provide any information regarding what routes they flew, where they were based and if anyone has photos please post them. Adorna Airways - Operated an A310 VR-BQU from March to November 1997 Aero Malaysiana - Operated an ATR72 9M-AMA from September 2002 to September 2003 Asia Pacific Airlines - Operated a Metro 9M-BCH from 1995 to 1998 Athena Air Services - Reported to have started B727 flights from Johor Bahru to Indonesia from 19 November 2003 Thanks Geoff
  6. Hafiz Many thanks for all the information and photos. I had heard that a couple of Mi-17 had been ordered by the PDRM but went to the Bomba, but I never realised one had been painted up in PDRM colours. That's one rare photo you have there. Could you tell me what markings are painted on the tail please. I can't quite read it on the photo posted. While on the subjet of PDRM helicopters has anyone got a photo of 9M-PHC the Bell 206L LongRanger that crashed in January 1996. Geoff
  7. You say ex PDRM. I didn't think the PDRM had ever received any Mi-17s. Please can you provide any additional information - where and when the photo was taken, who operates it now etc. Many thanks for posting the picture and hope you can provide more information. Geoff
  8. Looking at Google Earth and Radzi's photo it does not look if it is used or has been used for some time. Any one been here recently? Geoff
  9. I read a newspaper report in August that the old control was about to be demolished as part of the ongoing work to upgrade the airport. From the article below, written in April 2006, completion would be before the end of 2008. http://www.amazingmelaka.com/2006/04/04/ma...etely-upgraded/ Except the local residents, not many people know about the existence of Batu Berendam Airport in Melaka. Currently, the runway is too short for big aircraft. This airport has got its earth breaking ceremony on 1 Apr 2006, and will be completely upgraded in 30 months. Batu Berendam Airport is occupying 141 acres of land. Under this expansion, the runway will be upgraded from 1,372M length and 37M width, to 2,045M length and 45M width. Besides, it can also allow Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 aircrafts to land. New Facilities The existing terminal complex will be completely removed, and reconstructed with a 7,000M-square new terminal equipped with international-standard amenities to cater the modern needs. The old control tower will also be replaced with new construction, and complemented with various advanced aeronautic devices. Both ends of the runway will be installed with proper facilities to guide night landing, and better assure the safety in bad weather conditions. Chief Minister Hopes for Shorter Construction Time. Though the expansion is planned to be completed in 30 months, but the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Ali Rustam, hopes the plan to be developed in 18 months. In comparison, the new LCC (Low Cost Carrier) Terminal in Sepang was completed in 9 months. Anyone local know how work is progressing? Geoff
  10. Adrian Many thanks for sharing your pictures. Any other helicopter shots - Robinsons, Euroccopters? Geoff
  11. Re my earlier post if you just are considering Malaysia then you may well be corerct in saying there have been no fatal accidents involving commercial S-61s. Geoff
  12. Fira, several statements you made are wrong. Let me explain. "In the civillian world there is not a single fatal crash involving the S61" There have been many fatal commerical S-61 accidents - including several that were not due to pilot error. One of the "famous" ones being the Los Angeles Airways S-61 crash caused by a blade seperating. You can read the accident report at http://www.airdisaster.com/reports/ntsb/AAR69-07.pdf Other fatal accidents have occured in the US, UK and Spain for sure. "EH101 has a tail pylon cracking problem that was a suspect causing it to crash(fatal) in Canada" The EH101 has never had a tail pylon cracking problem that I have heard of. For sure it has been reported Canada has suffered minor cracking of the tail rotor hub components which have now been fixed. Within a few days of the fatal accident you refer to in Canada, technical problems with the aircraft were ruled out. You can read one of many reports at http://www.cbc.ca/canada/nova-scotia/story...nt-interim.html "AW 139 has a nose up attitude and Agusta has impose some operating limitation" A friend who flies the AW139 says there is no special limits imposed on the AW139 - just the normal limits in the flight manual. For sure the AW139 hovers nose up but then all modern fast helicopters do. Something linked to having the main rotor mounted in the aircraft tilted forward to ensure the fuselage is level in fast cruise if I remember correctly. "S92 still have some vibration issues" I have heard this also and as a result some operators are limiting cruise speed to much less than maximum. However, I am sure Sikorsky will be working on this problem and have it sorted long before a Nuri replacement is delivered. Geoff
  13. From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website: "State Visit by H.E. Hugo Chávez Frías, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Malaysia, 27-30 August 2006" Press release copied below. So sounds like FAV0001 the Venezuelan Goverment A319CJ will be visiting KUL. Canons (and Nikons) at the ready. Geoff H.E. Hugo Chávez Frías, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will be making a four-day State Visit to Malaysia from 27-30 August 2006. This is his second State Visit to Malaysia. The visit will be hosted by SPB the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. During the visit, President Chávez and his delegation will have a bilateral meeting with YAB Dato’ Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Prime Minister of Malaysia and the Malaysian delegation. President Chávez will be accompanied by eight Venezuelan Cabinet Ministers, namely, H.E. Nicolás Maduro, Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Rafael Ramirez, Minister of Energy and Oil and President of PDVSA, H.E. Dr. Jorge Giordanni, Minister of Planning and Development, H.E. Elías Jaua, Minister of Agriculture and Land, H.E. Dr. Gustavo Márquez, Minister of Estate for Integration and External Trade, H.E. Williams Lara, Minister of Communication and Information, H.E. Yadira Córdova, Minister of Sciences and Technology as well as H.E. Jesús Suárez Chourio, Minister of Presidential Security and Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs for Asia, H.E. Alcides Rondón. As part of his visit programme, President Chávez will make a tour to Golden Hope Palm Oil Refinery in Telok Panglima Garang, Banting and Golden Hope Oil Palm Plantation, Carey Island. Besides, he will also address a business forum co-organised by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Kuala Lumpur and the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Malaysia. Trade is a dominant feature of Malaysia-Venezuela bilateral relations. Total bilateral Malaysia-Venezuela trade in 2005 amounted to US$39.62 million (RM150.57 million). This represents an increase of more than 100% from US$19.8 million (RM74.6 million) in 2004. The balance of trade was US$10.39 million (RM39.51 million) and in Malaysia’s favour. The visit would enable H.E. Hugo Chávez Frías to follow up and establish personal contacts as well as forge closer rapport and understanding with YAB Prime Minister and other Malaysian leaders. In addition to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, the visit would also present an opportunity for Venezuela to explore close cooperation in the oil and gas as well as palm oil sectors with Malaysia. A number of international issues of common concern is also expected to be discussed between Malaysia and Venezuela during the visit, in particular, the current political situation in the Middle East.
  14. I think Eurocopter will offer the EC725. This is the military designation for the civil EC225 which was developed from the Super Puma L2. It has a five blade main rotor, higher take-off weight and more powerful engines but is still just a stretched, more powerful, upgraded 1960's Puma. Geoff
  15. 9M-SPT S-76C++ should be in Malaysia now as it was airfreighted out of Prestwick, Scotland on 3rd August. Anyone seen it at Subang? Also G-CEOR S-76C++ c/n 760654 is the third new aircraft to be Malaysia bound. Geoff
  16. Maybe, but four of top five airports are in Asia. Will take some beating. What new airports that are being built are likely to get into the top 10 inthe next five years? Any guesses? Geoff
  17. Not sure how cutting airport taxes for LCCs hits tourism? Giovanni Bisignani needs to explain that again for me to understand. As long as any carrier has the option to choose between the LCCT and the Main Terminal, then this improves competition in my books. Maybe the fact very few LCCs are IATA members has something to do with Giovanni Bisignani's comments? Or am I just being cynical? Geoff
  18. ABC news making a story out of nothing new. The BBC ran a story with explosion test footage back in March - see http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6442017.stm Just amazing it took so long for some countries to impose the restrictions on taking liquids through security and onto aircraft when they knew the threat. Geoff
  19. Fitri, I think they are new. MMEA statements a few months ago said that the AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters will be used in Kuantan on the East coast while the Eurocopter AS365N3 Dauphin helicopters will be based at Subang and used to patrol the Malacca Strait. Geoff
  20. Thanks for the update and new information. I think 9M-SPS should be s/n 760641 and 9M-SPT 760645 or have I got it wrong? Geoff
  21. The first two AS365N3 Dauphins are at Eurocopter's Subang facility with the first one M70-01 already painted up in a US Coast Guard style red and white colours. scheme. Some photos are posted at http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.ph...47&page=164 Any one here got photos they can post? Geoff
  22. From the copters yahoo group it is repoprted that G-CEKP Sikorsky S-76C c/n 760641 became 9M-SPS having been cancelled from the British register 6th July. Quite a few "new" helicopters arriving in Malaysia this year. Geoff
  23. A new Bristow Helicopters S-76C G-CEKR (760645) has just been painted up as 9M-SPT at Aberdeen in Scotland. So I guess it will be on its way to Malaysia pretty soon. Geoff
