  1. Is this true? I saw an interesting advert of Singapore Airlines recently saying that they wash their planes very often because clean plane is more fuel efficient. Any scientific prove on this?
  2. Not a bad price... i guess the fare is the same on kch-bwn-kch?
  3. I can't agree more This is what I got on KCH-SIN. A little chicken puff (served hot) and a muffin (cold). It makes MAS snack box looks generous... The funny thing is the food was served in a proper tray with metal cutlery! I wonder who would be bothered to eat the chicken puff or muffin with fork and knife. Sorry, OT again. Lets hope RBA will have a better catering on their KCH-BWN run
  4. I have only used MI once to KCH, it was part of the LHR-SIN-KCH vv ticket bought via SQ. The load was rather light on SIN-KCH but OK on the KCH-SIN leg. I didn't recall seeing many Malaysians onboard. Most passengers are made up of Chinese tourist/workers from the mainland (interesting), Westerners and Singaporeans. A number of my friends (who lived in the UK) have used this route too and had similar experience. Most of my friends in KCH know little about MI, I wasn't surprised as MI hardly does any advertising or offers any through fare to SQ destinations via SIN. I guess not even a lot of people know where the Silkair office is in KCH - I only found out when I accidentally left my digital camera on the plane and had to go to their office to get it It is quite disappointing that MI website doesn't even allow online booking for flying out of KCH. SQ website only allow you to book a flight into KCH/BKI and not the other way round. There must a reason behind this
  5. Thanks for the info! I also found out the schedule is now available from amadeus. Nothing from the RBA website though. BWN-KCH Days : Mon, Fri & Sat Flight No : BI857 Departure from BWN : 2155 Arrival at KCH: 2310 KCH-BWN Days : Tue, Sat & Sun Flight No : BI858 Departure from KCH : 0745 Arrival at BWN : 0900 Good news! The timing is a bit odd, but the schedule does provide same day connections to most RBA destinations such as Shanghai, Perth, Brisbane, Auckland, Sydney, Dubai and London, although layover in BWN can be quite long (particularly for Dubai and London)....
  6. Any news on this? It is almost November now. Checked the RBA website, there is no mention of resuming flights to KCH. Also their B777-200ER's, aren't they supposed to enter service on the second half of 2007?!
  7. Good news!! Does anyone know what is the discount offered by MASwings for senior citizen and students? Would it be 50% just like the 'good old days'?!
  8. Is Turkish making a come back to KL?
  9. AFAIK QR is switching their a/c type to A332 from mid-September. Finally KUL get its upgrade! Sorry Offendi, cant answer your question... perhaps you can give QR office a call, I'm sure they can pre-book seats for you. I would guess they will be using the 2 class A330-200, which means all the Y class seats start from row 10.
  10. haha, thanks for all the advice here! Looks like I need to be really lucky or just buy a Business class ticket to use the Golden Lounge The reason I want to access the lounge is to use the shower. I used the shower once at the Satellite Building transit hotel, but I don't think the domestic departure hall has a transit hotel or has shower facility?!
  11. Hi all, Just wondering if one can pay to use the golden lounges at KLIA (either the domestic or international ones)? Or these lounges are exclusively for First/Business class passengers and higher tier Enrich members only? Many Thanks

it make sense if you are already settling down ... if I already have kids I wont want to spend most of the time away from home.
  13. Not allowed to stand up? So I guess there is no loo on the plane then? What happen if someone gets a little bit desperate during flight?
  14. Cool! Glad you manage to get one too!
  15. Opps, you got me here - having checked the numbers, Sarawak is in fact slightly smaller than Penisular Malaysia Peninsular Malaysia 50,806 sq mi Sarawak 48,050 sq mi Sabah 28,725 sq mi
  16. I don't disagree However it seems to me the general public has been given the impression that all the flights operated by FAX are classified RAS. RAS refers to flights operated by the DHT-6 Twin otters, connecting the rural parts of Sarawak and Sabah to larger cities/towns such as BKI and MYY. The routes operated by F50's such as BTU-BKI, SBW-MYY are never classified as RAS (at least prior to route rationalisation), these are called the non-trunk routes. The only problem is that the market for these non-trunk routes are too small to be operated by MH's 734 or AK's 733/320... East Malaysia needs smaller planes to link all the cities/towns together. We do not have a large population, but look at our size, Sarawak itself is already bigger than the whole Peninsular Malaysia! And travelling by road is slow and painful...
  17. As suggested by Mushrif and SV, I wrote to the Singapore customer service and got a response in less than 24hrs advising that a copy of SilverKris is on its way! Got it in this morning's post - it was sent from Singapore! I am impressed!
  18. Me too... But based on amadeus there are two daily flights between SBW and BKI. Personally I dont think this is the 'old information' as before the route rationalisation, MH operated the Fokker flights under MH2xxx. The MH3xxx only applies to RAS operated by the Twin Otter. MH3182 STD 1130 STA 1305 A/C F50 Nonstop MH3240 STD 0710 STA 0930 A/C F50 1 stop via BTU wow I didn't know it takes that long to fly a turboprop from SBW to BKI. The journey time is even longer than KCH-BKI on a 737
  19. Hi guys Found this on amadeus.net, quite interesting. Not sure how accurate this is, but I believe amadeus is a fairly trustable website. Looks like folks from Kuching will be seeing some turboprops back in action this October KCH-BTU MH3384 STD 1625 STA 1725 A/C F50 KCH-SBW MH3408 STD 1910 STA 1955 A/C F50 MH3408 also continues to MYY, leaving SBW 2015 arriving MYY 2110 These flights are also shown as "operated by another airline". It doesn't mention the airline's name but I guess it would be MASWing? Maybe someone can clarify... hope I am not confusing anyone here Btw does MASWing has its own website?
  20. Oh dear oh dear, nine seats abreast! Most charter airlines in the UK already have similar seating arrangement too (3-3-3 for A330, 2-4-2 for B767), even British Airways 777's to the Carribean are configured in 3-4-3. I just hope that they will provide a slightly more generous seat pitch or adopt a more innovation design such as arranging the seats diagonally (instead of one straight line) to improve shoulder room.
  21. Oh well, thats totally understandable, especially these days airlines are making every effort in cutting down cost. What p* me off slightly is they could have responded in a more polite manner. And guess what, the email also comes with an attachment of a response to an enquiry from another guy who wants to travel to the Philippines and is looking for advice on flight booking.
  22. Wow this is cool. I have requested a copy and all I get is a one liner email "the Silver Kris is an inflight magazine of Singapore Airlines and therefore is only available onboard". The UK customer service team always seem a bit impersonal to me so I wasn't expecting too much anyway
  23. Having checked the airlinermeals website, it does look like EK was using a very similar tableware to UL until a couple of years ago I also found out that the KUL-CMB leg is actually operated by MH A333 Anyway, thanks again for all the info, it gives me a good insight of the airline which I know little of.
  24. You got me worried here Mushrif. CMB is resuming night time operations from September, so both my inbound and outbound flights are scheduled to arrive CMB at 0230 and 0005 respectively. Anyway, I spoke to my SriLankan colleague before I booked the flight, he managed to convince me that Heathrow is actually more dangerous than Bandaranayike airport! This may well be true... Hmm.... the Y tableware looks different from that of EK. Flew with EK a couple of times and their serving is generous, and good presentation too... Snack Dinner Continental breakfast
  25. Thanks for the all the info guys! Hmm...the cabin does look very similar to EK's A332
