Jetstar Flies To Asia For As Low As A$169 One-way

By Neville D'Cruz

MELBOURNE, July 26 (Bernama) -- Low-cost carrier Jetstar will offer one-way airfares to Asia from as low as $169 from November, the company announced.

The Qantas-owned carrier will fly to Bangkok, Phuket, Ho Chi Minh City, Osaka, Bali and Honolulu from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

The first international flight will take off on Nov 23 from Melbourne direct to Bangkok, followed by a Sydney-Phuket services the day after.

"Our everyday low fares will similarly take Jetstar into a price leadership position in international leisure markets, with clear benefits for both Australian travellers and the Australian tourism industry," Jetstar's chief executive Alan Joyce said.

Jetstar will offer two classes of services, including StarClass which will be marketed to travellers wanting extra comfort.

"Jetstar will over the next four years develop a significant international network to a large number of Australian and overseas destinations," Qantas' chief executive Geoff Dixon said.

I wonder if are they going to use the A320s on these routes, or bigger planes? I thought Australian Airlines is doing all the 'low cost' international routes, is there a plan to 'merge' these two airlines together, AFAIK they are all subsidiary of Qantas?!

Pieter, u zou correct zijn

VH-EBC is first A330-201 to be transferred from QF to JQ, with -EBD to follow before Nov 1st when operations start. VH-EBA/B will follow soon after. Two new build A332's have been ordered by QF (see Asian Delivery News) for use by JQ, with the first expected to be VH-EBE delivered in Jun 07, and -EBF in Jul 07. These will be operated along side the domestic/trans tasman A320-232's before they are replaced by by Boeing 787's in a few years time. Exciting times ahead for the silver bullet! Thanks LC.

H C Chai, AO is dead my friend. The 5 763's were absorbed into QF mainline ops with 3 of the 5 repainted back into QF colours before the official closure on July 1st. VH-OGL and -OGV will remain on trans-tasman and domestic ops for approximately 3 weeks longer when -OGV will depart Australia for the final flight ever of an AO coloured bird. Sad to see such an amazing livery go, but thankfully another amazing livery (JQ) is born. Also, of note, Jetstar Asia will loose its "Asia" suffix very shortly.

Jetstar Asia goes in brand shake-up

The name Jetstar Asia nolonger exists, after the airline merged its brand with Jetstar. The move is part of a broad strategy for Jetstar to gain critical mass in Asia, where Jetstar Asia operates from Singapore to eight destinations.

Jetstar Asia, 49 per cent Qantas-owned, has also merged its website with Jetstar and will update its aircraft livery.

Jetstar group general manager commercial Bruce Buchanan said the change will increase brand awareness and deliver a consistent message to consumers as it moved into long-haul destinations. Buchanan said it would also make it easier for travel agents to sell Jetstar, saving them time explaining to customers the difference between the two airlines. “We want to expand our footprint in Asia,” he said.

Jetstar has also received provisional approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to integrate the two airline networks.
